Sure, people who knew about the series from the NES/SNES days would've been following the games getting re-released on the Game Boy and DS (and eventually 3DS) along with the DQ9 DS release. But the Square/Enix merger really fucked the production of DQ games, with only one title showing up on the PS1 and there being very little coming out from the series, especially outside Japan.
