I’m not against it per se, I just got kids that wreck all my shit so I play a modded GameCube with pikoboot and a micro SD to load the ROMs and use $8 old skool brand controllers on cheap flatscreen that still has AV support and low resolution.. it works. If and when a controller gets smashed from playing smash it’s like.. eh whatever another trip to the record store I guess.

The pain the ass thing was learning all the autistic skills to mod the GameCube, or repair my own broken shit, but now that it’s done I’ve started buying broke ones and selling them for side money.

>Why is /v/ so against physical media?

I realized that video games are fundamentally a digital medium and that the concept of "physical media" is quite vague and arbitrary. I'm working towards being more honest with myself about the true nature of things, and one of those things was accepting that all video games are just software running on a computer. That being the case, I'd rather just have one high quality computer that runs my software.
>>
Reseller market bullshit makes physical 1000% more expensive than digital.
>>
>>725613971
Because I'm savagely autistic and hate things taking up space in my house. I legitimately have empty walls and significant amounts of the floorspace in my house totally barren. The only reason I even own a couch is because my girlfriend freaked out about it. My gaming area is just a chair, desk, PC, and 3 monitors in an empty room. Having physical vidya would clutter the space and break down my fragile mind.
>>
My eyes hurt. That's enough /v/ for the rest of my life.
See you tomorrow.
>>
>>725613971
I'm not against it, but I prefer downloading the games for free to use on my consoles rather than compete with speculators trying to manipulate the retro aftermarket by turning every other piece of shit title nobody's heard or cared about into a HIDDEN GEM

>Why is /v/ so against physical media?
● Majority of posts on /v/ are formed by males aged 13-24.
● They did not purchase or "grow up" with physical media as their primary source for video game media.
● To witness something you are not a "part of" or "have experience with" is both frightening and angering to most humans, especially children.
It is inherently a "bad" thing to "most of /v/."

● Most posters on /v/ who DID purchase or grow up with physical media as their primary souce of video game media DO NOT currently own those products any more.
● This same group, posting on /v/, generally regret their decision to sell or otherwise abandon their previous investments of their hobby. This regret is frustrating, depressing, and invokes otherwise negative feelings.
● Witnessing or being otherwise reminded of "physical media" leads this specific group to become combative, threatening/feeling threatened, and will lambast anyone who owns or otherwise shows interest in pieces of their past they now regret.
It's a strong regret for "gamers" who market their feelings of investment, but cannot display it, making them feel very threatened and weak.

● There are a considerable number of different brands and products of physical media.
● Most capable of owning physical media are not keen to own ALL physical media.
● This causes enormous levels of selection division among most consumers.
● As mentioned above, division among consumers (not being a part of, or having experience with) or "console wars" was extremely prevelant. It was commonplace to lambast anyone or anything that didn't share your interest, pointing to faults among media, referencing only negative criticisms, or otherwise generating complete lies in order to mock anything you were/are unassociated with.
People will do ANYTHING to kill interest in others and those interests. Negative actions that cause harm are among the easiest and fastest results of "I don't agree with that."
>>

If you want to collect game machines and cartridges, then go right ahead. I'm not interested in collecting those things and would rather have all of that on a couple of HDDs connected to a little machine under my TV that takes up 95% less space.

I'm not, I started collecting a lot recently. Spent around 6k on games and consoles over the summer. I think media is about to be put on lock down, especially older media because companies want to sell you new stuff and busy bodies want to censor stuff in remakes and remasters and make old stuff unavailable, or at least hard to get. The roll out of digital ID has been a warning sign for me. In any case, I don't really like collecting physical stuff but I do forsee a point in the future when I won't be able to use the internet to get entertainment, so I figure now is the time to prepare.

>When has anything other than shit with moon runes that nobody can read not been available in the US?
The moment it was sold outside of retail shops. For example: garage sale! These were common, especially among military base housing.
>When has Steam taken away someone's games?
Daily. The moment its subscribers are noticed for infringement, relinquishing their access is a common occurance for Steam customers. Steam is a service, not a product; purchasing its services will not result in product ownership.
>>
>>725617583
Fuck libraries! They're like the ghettos of modern culture!

I'm over that age range and grew up with physical media. I just don't care because having one SSD or PC to emulate 30 years of games is superior over having 20 consoles with at least 40 random cables minimum. Also most of that shit is just going to collect dust and holy fuck I can tell you don't clean that often.

I also literally moved my home over to a completely different continent and couldn't be more happier that I barely owned any junk/physical media. All the shit I brought over I actually use instead of looking like a poor man's collection.

Asking, Anon? That's a very poorly structured question. Omitting the independent exemplified clause, in order to improve clarity,
>When has anything not been available in the US?
is a very silly question to ask when the answer is instantly obvious.

I don't really care about not owning or owning. I can pirate, but I don't. I can buy one of those shitty consoles, but I don't. Meanwhile PC lets me mod, use adblock to everything, and when I get a new PC in a completely different chassis I can play the same games without having to worry about compatibility. I don't have to pay twice for online, and I can buy from multiple digital storefronts or just the same one and not have a single issue. It also pays for itself anyways and I can shitpost here. Oh and I guess I also gen porn too jej.

If you actually have money, who gives a shit anyways? Get banned? Just make a new account, pirate, or rebuy the same games. Also like 99% of >>725613971 you can just download for free and emulate, all on a 2.5inch SATA or NVMe.

So all you literally did was just buy more plastic waste for less and have to dedicate an entire room for one singular function. The worst part is that it doesn't even look that good especially when mixed with other furniture and function and is a genuine eyesore and hell to clean/manage. There are literally better shit to collect but physical media is what poor retards think is cool.

besides having the rest of a real computer right there with you (paraphrasing what you said), imo the other big advantage is not having to remove and insert media to load up a game. hate when i click an app on my switch or ps5 and then get reminded that i have to go get the thing and put it in

Because physical media typically has gay copy protection and hardware DRM, and I want to be able to move, edit and back up my files without jumping through hoops.

I don't see an issue with original consoles, I have a bunch. I don't use them much, because games look better in 4k with a CRT shader on my PC, and emulation is pretty good these days for most systems.

That said, anyone who collects physical games is a fucking retard, they're a chore to play. I have never, for one second, missed the experience of having to look through my collection for the right case, opening it, then finding out I must've put it back somewhere else when I switched games last time, and going through all the recent cases to find where I put it. Or the DREs, or random audio cut-outs when a scratch or smudge fucks with the laser, or the fucking noise of the CD/DVD spinning like a madman.

depends on the emulator but when you can emulate games at 4K240fps when the original hardware barely could shit out 30fps, yea no.
>era specific display
So the games PC can emulate fuck easy for free and at the resolution and frames I said above? Let's also just ignore how most of the "collections" that get posted here are like PS5/PS4/Switch so way to dig your hole deeper. Oh yea and if you're autistic enough you could probably just get an adapter and tinker with the emulator and play old games on your CRT with a PC anyways so, like what was the point of this you retard.

I didn't have a problem with it. I started playing it when it was new, guess I just got used to it right away.

I had to get the real boost/spider guardian experience. But for real it’s just because I have a region modded system and NTSC prime 2 was cheaper than a PAL copy.

Also fuck the boost guardian.
