I fucking hate LEDs. Anything lighting up that is not my monitor is a distraction taking away from the game. Fuck the 2GB proprietary jeetware you need to install for keyboards and mice and fans and shit to turn that shit off too.
>>
>>725804240
This one runs on linux so it's probably a FOSS controller
>>
>>725804240
But you're still gonna get a steam machine, right?

I am sleep
>>
>>725804240
they specifically said you can turn it off so what's the problem?
>>
bro, I hate how sometime in the mid 2000's all electronics started having a tiny led that lit up when the appliance was off

like wtf. I dont need a tiny red light to tell me that my tv is off. you know how I know my tv is off? because its fucking off
>>
>>725804672
the tiny red light is to tell you it's in standby mode. it's not off.
>>
>>725804807
my tv has a power button. thats it. theres no standby
>>
>>725804353
you're still paying for it
>>
>>725804953
Not if you don't buy it.

The whole point of the steam machine is to play "all steam titels", but old games were NOT made with SteamOS in mind. They were made for Windows 95, 98, XP; Vista, 7, 8 and so on. The compatibility issues with older games is still a very important point, and we don't know if we can play them with no hassle at all. Also the SteamOS doesn't support kernel based anti cheat. So you can't play Fortnite, Battlefield 6, Call of Duty or GTA online with the "console" like SteamOS. And the moment you install Windows on this thing, it becomes an office device (PC) with all the headaches included, and is not a console-like experience anymore. So the Steam machine has many flaws and the 8GB of VRAM is also outdated on PC for over 2 years now. Its far away from "powerful PC gaming" as the promo says here. Digital Foundry said that the performance is "slightly better than Xbox Series S". And that console is over 5 years old already. So its more like an entry level low-end experience for people who can not decide whether they want a PC or a console. Personally I would never buy this thing, I have a PS5 Pro and the games look and run much better on it than on this "new" device.
>>
>>725805019
damn...
>>
>>725804953
and how much does an led strip like this cost in the grand scheme of things?
>>
>>725805235
i'm guessing it could also just be for people who haven't upgraded their pc in a long time and this might be a decent budget option to get them to do so. my pc is old as shit and i can't play most newer things but i still haven't felt the urge to upgrade very much. if i had a decent budget option i may buy/play newer games which would end up earning valve more money in the long-run probably.
>>
>>725805431
2 much if i don't want it
>>
>>725804240
Can we dim the LED and mix and match it with games? I like to do something as simple as use it as a health bar for some games, like Resident Evil, or have it change colors based on current in-game action
>>
>>725805235
All of these problems should be surmountable, but you never know with Valve. Funny enough, one of the hardest issues to surmount is games without any controller prompts, but I've heard there's some weird technologies being researched that could overcome that using frame buffering.

So much just depends on Valve working fast.
>>
>>725804240

You know you can just not buy LED shit right?
>>
>>725804240
I agree with you but having an led on a console or pc to let you know its power state has always been a thing
This reeks of you fags looking for any excuse to shit on >new thing

This. I have a monitor lightbar and my keyboard and mouse has zero RGB. Niggas genuinely have skill issue if they're still complaining about RGB in this day and age.

Those monochrome sodium lamps is why things looked so cool in the 90s

it will probably be controlled through openrgb so you could script it. make it go off once if you get a notification or something
>>
>>725804930

The ones on the left are better for falling asleep and the ones on the right for not dying.
>>
>>725805615
it probably won't be _that_ easy.
you'll probably have to point to some library, write some code and run it as a mod to respond to anything in game.

the good part is any code you have to write will most likely be a simple function call.
for making it flash red and blue when the police is after you in a game it'll be as simple as check if wanted, check if a second has passed since last colour swap, check if it was blue or red last time and then call the function with the inverse colour.
>>
>>725805157
Don’t these lights have a color filter by now?
>>
>>725822149
they already do to make them white. they're not rgb leds so by default they're blue which is obviously bad for sleep so they add phosphor which puts yellow into the blue which comes out as white. it'll take too much phosphor to turn the white into orange that it's too costly to bring back the old colouring.

technically they can do coloured plastic coverings but they degrade and lose colour easily under UV plus nobody is manufacturing and working coloured translucent plastic enough for them to be cheap.

it's honestly a shame that the lads are blue by default
>>
>>725814973
Wasn't the Wii's only an indicator light? It's fine to have this kind of shit to indicate loading and ejecting.

You can't "max out" settings on a top of the line GPU anyways with how shittily coded these nu-gaymes are nowadays.
>>
>>725825567
Fair point. But this box is going to attract a number of console tards. I'm sure they'll be vocal enough about it.
>>
>>725804240
No one complained when older consoles had redundant LEDs. Aside from when said LEDs indicated a fault in their console's hardware.

>I don't care how it looks, I just need it to be max
I understand that that's usually because the game isn't made well, but seeing retards like you crying because some games target future hardware is the worst.
They should just make a monkey version where you can only run the game on low for idiots like you.
>>
>>725826298
if it's preinstalled it's definitely not just a few dollars. For the people selling it sure, but for you it'll be more than just a few dollars.

That's why I pay $0 whenever I install Windows now.
>>
>>725826442
Don't bundle me with that retard; I was just pointing out how pointless it is to complain about it.
>>
>>725826520
You can literally buy a product key license for a few bucks if you're a moralfag or free with MAS. Windows is literally worthless for both the seller and the buyer; Microshit seems to agree with me as well.

>>I don't care how it looks, I just need it to be max

They're optimized like shit and the other fag anon made that point. Future proofing games is one of the weakest excuses this collapsing industry has right now.
>>
>>725826909
most people aren't going to find those keys dude. The ones I found were at least $15 and not sure if it was an OEM.

But yea I didn't want to pay a single cent to microjeet so I just massgraved it.
>>
>>725827212
Most people aren't installing operating systems
>>
>>725827275
Which explains the uptick in Win 11 users.
>>
>>725827459
Can't be because all new PCs come with Win11. Can't be because Microshit forces goycattle to upgrade through a veiled winupdate. Can't be because federal offices are forced to use the [current thing]. Most people aren't installing operating systems.
>>
>>725827689
That is exactly why. People are cattle. Throw away my computer because it's time to update? Well if you say so.

Can we blame Apple for this somehow?
