Nah. My 3080ti is still going strong.
I have 32gb of ram ddr4 which is more than enough and i have 3tb of memory, more than plenty for me.
Only thing i wish to upgrade is the cpu cooler and that specific fan that is making noises but it's not necessary anyways because they both work anyways

Its will just last a few months. They are doing the NVidia free government money strategy. Every company will do this going forward.

>Want to build new gigafactory that will cost a gorillion dollars
>Give all your components to OpenAI, creating huge shortage
>Tell Trump the only way to stop shortage is to increase production and that you want to do this in America
>Trump gives you a free gorillion dollars to build your factory
Nvidia did it twice. Intel did it. So now everyone is.

Proponents of laissez-faire argue for a near complete separation of government from the economic sector.[5][verification needed] The phrase laissez-faire is part of a larger French phrase and literally translates to "let [it/them] do", but in this context the phrase usually means to "let it be" and in expression "laid back".[6] Although never practiced with full consistency, laissez-faire capitalism emerged in the mid-18th century and was further popularized by Adam Smith's book The Wealth of Nations.[7][8]

I think it would be pretty comfy if pcs became so expensive everyone just kept trying to maintain their own. game developers would have to actually optimize their shit and stop this insane 'hardware requirements go up, game looks the same' reality we are in right now.
We are basically subsidizing game companies by allowing them to be lazy

>but consumers can say "fuck that" and go outside, or use older tech, play older / lower-spec games, boycott anything with AI in it, get into retro gaming, start focusing on repairing/maintaining their shit, whatever
This is capitalism.
If you don't like something, do something else, punish them for making shit decisions. Doesn't have to be a full boycott, but that works too
If enough people say "fuck that", then they'll back off. If they don't back off, they run the risk of spending a gorrillion dollars on something they can't profit off of and get shit on by their shareholders and the stock market.
If people are sheep and say shit like "I need a new work PC for emails, but they're $5000, ugh, better take out a loan", then blame your peers for being NPC consoomers.

Drives me mad when people go "Capitalism = money = bad" and start bitching about greed as if this shit doesn't happen in Socialism or Communism too, to the same degree.
At least with Capitalism, you can actually do something about greed, people are just absolute shit at having the brain to say "no" to buying overpriced garbage.

Ray tracing will be optional. The game will just have a very good art style, as is the case with Red Dead Redemption 2, which was released in 2018
PS5 and Xbox Series have 2020 hardware, this game will be one of the most optimized, it will run easily on older hardware, as was the case with GTA 5

The only way to end up in the red is by spending obscene money on other things pointlessly.

the switch 2 has 12gb of ram.
also, are we actually going to get next gen consoles? the switch 2 was a real upgrade, it physically can't run the old switch games natively without emulation.
But for xbox / playstation, is there any excuse for the console to be unable to play older games? And if they CAN, they kind of need to support the ancient xbox series s, and the ps5, even though the series X and ps5 pro is stronger, because it's just super confusing for people reading the packaging for which console it supports, is it ps5 or is it ps6?
And how are they going to make the next gen affordable? if next gen starts off at ps6 / series x performance, that means the console is going to cost $600, if not more because it must be better?

>>
>>727626174
I sure prices will go down eventually, but I don’t think they’ll ever go back to how they once were. Big players are leaving the consumer field and even if they come back when the AI bubble pops, the turn around will be expensive for the company and they’ll push it on to the consumer
>>
>>727626310
I have experience with all the cpus we are discussing, I have two Piledriver 8 cores, 1 Excavator, I had a 2400G and a 5500 (5700G with two cores lopped off).
Get rid of the 3400G, it's garbage....
I got lower framerate with it than Xeon Haswell i7-4770 equivalent
>>
My cope is that when the AI bubble pops the data centers are going to be liquidated for pennies and all these components will be dumped onto the Chinese market and they will find their way onto aliexpress for dirt cheap. Assuming we don't all lose our jobs when the bubble pops it will be a golden age of cheap computing.
>>
Yes I also got the 16GB for AI duh but I'm using it less than I anticipated actually and just use AI in cloud like most people. Do I get the 5700G or is AM4 CPU without iGPU so much better? I only game in a VM though so that's the reason for the iGPU. I've been eyeing the prices and did consider going straight to AM5 but that's not going to happen now, but if I wait too long then AM4 will be dead too, those chips aren't made anymore. I already regret not going for the X3D and 5950X.

AI gpus are useless for gaming, they don't have a hdmi port.
There are professional versions of the nvidia and AMD gaming gpu's, such as the RTX 6000 pro blackwell, which is a 5090 with 98gb.
But it is unlikely that those GPU's are being used in mass for inference or training, simply because of power consumption (if the databases are predicting that they are going to operate for 10 years, in 10 years the cost of electricity might pay itself off).
$3000 for a 5090 cuts into nvidia's margins for their AI gpu's (the RTX 6000 pro blackwell 98gb version costs $9000, it should be a lot higher if you compare it to GPU's in the past such as the a100, yet I think the a100 is still better in certain ways, like power efficiency).
>>
>>727627741
You don't need a pro line GPU to run any local model. This isn't like double precision vs single precision compute of yesteryear.

Many such cases.
Besides, if enough people gave a shit about processed foods and how much plastic is in use, they'd push for glass bottles and only stick to unprocessed shit, but people can't help themselves and they go out buying 5lb bags of string cheese wrapped in five layers of plastic while drinking from some Big Gulp full of gas station Energy Drink™ and wearing synthetic clothes.
Hell, more people should give a fuck about India+China's trash rivers, but they don't.

I'm just saying that none of the GPU's used in AI datacenters are gaming GPU's (unless you can prove me wrong, I think there is some truth that nvidia gives GPU priority to businesses that buy the shittier GPU's, like the A4000 or whatever, but I don't know how far that goes)
We might see the price of GPU's fall if AI falls, but we won't see useful GPU's on aliexpress.
Unless you are trying to say you want to buy an a100 80gb for $3k, which is a cheap considering it's faster than a 5090 for AI, but like I said, but you get no gaming with the a100.

What's missing from modernity is none of these faggots ever get truly punished for these decisions that fuck over the rest of us. They are Lords of the Economy, and if they make a call that forces us all into the Rape Dimension, well shucks, at least they lost a lot of money, they're only worth a couple billion now, that'll teach them to play fast and loose with the global economy that we all need to stay alive. Deeply stupid era, deeply stupid economic philosophy.

Image gen: 12GB is mostly enough. Models themselves are limited by their source resolutions; restricting to higher resolutions hugely limits input sources.
Video gen: Vram sky is the fucking limit. Consumer cards practically useless and will get you about 5 seconds of video.
LLM: retard tier LLM clock in a 8GB. Can be amusing but will get old quick, have very limited memory for the actual conversation and lose coherence. 24GB models are already a big improvement, keeping in mind you still need more memory for your actual display and the context of the conversation. LLMs also have ~100GB varieties and the base ones are multiple hundreds of GB, totally beyond practical for a consumer. Even using regular ram for these which is 1/10th the speed it would run into the thousands of dollars and require special motherboards and cpus to go with them, to accomodate.
>>
>>727629048
Big DCs aren't guying your 5070s and 5090 gamer cards, no, but plenty of smaller scale operations definitely do. Because its not an issue of DP compute these cards can serve just fine. There are probably a few warehouses in places like Indonesia and Malaysia running 10,000 5090s and using more power than most villages in their entire countryside.

I know that the 5090 is used for AI, but even if 100 million 5090's are in total being used in AI data centers, I don't think it will flood the market in a significant way. I just don't believe nvidia is producing enough 5090's for it to matter, because the 5090 is cutting into their profits, like I said.

The optimistic outlook is that the spending slump in the last several months to this finance spending spree suggests some people just didn't spend money on luxury for a while and then splurged for the holiday when items are cheapest. Still irresponsible but when I was dead broke in 2020-2022 I basically made black friday the single day of those 2 years where I spent money outside of bills and food.

The issue is less so what games pushes for 32GBs of ram, but rather how long before your OS and background applications starts hogging so much of it as they get updated that your games aren't getting enough.

I'd rather go ahead and invest in a console or something instead. The prices might go up some but it's not going to be as fucked as pc hardware since the Nintendo/Sony/whoever secures the deal for the hardware and not the consumer.
