Just put the system in your game cowards, let them sue you for it (they wont) and become an internet celebrity for fighting back if they do
>>727621301>randomly generated garbage:)>randomly generated garbage, AI:(
the patent already expired
>>727621408TRVTHNVKE
>>727621301Or you just make your own and ignored their garbage version.
>>727621301This shit would be indefensible in court lolIt's crazy how no one has had the balls to do it for publicity yet
>>727621301>one of the most important gameplay innovationswhy do people treat these games like the second coming of christ
What would be the nemesis system even be good for? Shadow of Mordor kind of sucks. Would a roguelite like Hades or Deadcells or something benefit from it?
>>727621595>The patent for the Nemesis System from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has not expired; it's secured by Warner Bros. and is set to run until August 11, 2036
>>727621301I don't understand how this is a real software patent and how it doesn't have prior art.
>>727621684It could work for a game focused on petty criminals/thugs/gangsters.One enemy thug dies, another one just pops up in a crack house across the street just as quickly. Would be hard to give them unique abilities since you can't rely on fantasy but I think it could work.
Wednesday Addams Nemesis SystemStranger Things Nemesis System
>>727621495On this topic? Yea open world games are for retards. Western RPGs ps3 and later have never been good. Nemesis system seething is the most reddit shit I've seen in forever, especially since SoM and all of LoTR is literal garbage for sub70niq jeets.
Is Shadow of Mordor GotY worth $2? Played Shadow of War years ago but I don't remember anything about it (other than the insane requirements for the true ending).
>>727621962I'd say it's worth it up to 5 bucks, yeah. It goes on sale super often so you'd be nuts to buy it at anything above that.
What is that special about the system? Orcs that have names and that reborn? I only played the first game tho.
>>727621301I never got the hype for this system. Isn't it just some Bethesda Radiant Quest thing but applied to NPCs?
>>727621962Yea theyre fun games, its assassins creed but better in every possible way.>doesnt concern with realism so you get goofy skills and abilities>goes over the top with executions and lots of variety to them>the targets develop resistances and have their own behaviours instead of being stock NPCs with the same behaviours throughout the game>you dont need to bother with stealth at all its more of an opener than a focusYou dont play them for the Lord of the Rings angle. The orcs are more like fucking 40k orcs that LotR, which is actually ok
>>727621301It expires in less than a year anywayhttps://patents.google.com/patent/US20160279522A1/en
>>727622260Not at all, I dont know who told you that but its not even close. Its a system I wish was in more games eactly for stuff like radiant quests, if theyre going to add generic repeatable quests something like this would make them feel more varied than just "do that encounter youve done 50 times already".
>>727621408Trademarking game mechanics is retard.
>>727622431this, was going to say the patent runs out soon enough
>>727621301>legally owning a gameplay mechanicJewish nigger legal system.
>>727622158Basically it prevents any other game from making anything you as a player do have any meaning to later parts of the game and so they must make their game linear or they get sued for patent infrigment. The details don't actually matter, it's just a way to control the competition.
>>727622260>>727622158it basically generates unique enemies based on what you do and other common enemies can respond uniquely to those unique enemies. its a lot of on the fly complex scripting where other games scripting is very rigid and basic like bethesda is all done by hand and doesn't deviate unless you mod it.
>>727621832>One enemy thug dies, another one just pops up in a crack house across the street just as quicklyWOW RESPAWNING ENEMIES WITH NEW MODIFIERS!!!! 2ND CUMMING OF THE CHIRST!
>>727621687>set to run until August 11, 2036Netflix will kill the gaming division before 2030. They'll try to sell the studios but everyone even the saudis know it's worthless without WB IPs.
>>727623553Cool, but it's still scripting, it's not making up shit on a fly like a person laying tracks. So I don't see how you could patent this, beyond that boomer lawyers probably don't give a fuck, don't understand it and just want bribes.
Can someone explain to me what this system is and how they'd even enforce it?Like you're not allowed to have a reoccurring NPC rival or something???
>>727623896Now you just stuck forever with respawning enemies without any new modifiers.
I never played Shadow of Mordor but have since been hearing about how important the Nemesis System is using broad terms that don't seem so impressive. Can someone explain what it actually is to a dumb retarded faggot like me? What is special about it?
>>727621301Right, I sure do want more and more fucking games repeating nemesis system over and over like they do ubisoft towers.I hope it stays out of their hands. Control limits creativity and that's what AAA is. It's why they are now resorting to remastering games made 20 years ago over and over and over back when creativity was allowed.
>>727624324>Can someone explain what it actually is to a dumb retarded faggot like me? What is special about it?patent, that's it
>>727623068That's not how it works, anyone else can use a similar system, they just have to implement it differently. You can't patent ideas, despite what Nintendo tries to pull.
>>727621408fpbp
>>727624091Broadly the problem is the same as Bandai-Namco owning loading screen minigames: You shouldn't be able to patent it, the law as I understand it says you can't patent it and precedent in case law tells you that it can't be patented, but the patent was granted and is legally enforceable-- or at least you'd have to defend yourself in court if you infringed on it; which is money and time people don't want to have to fuck with.
>>727622640It's a patent, not a trademark
>>727621301>people think Netflix spent 13,52x6 billion USD just to release anything of the intellectual property they just acquired to the public
>>727624229>Like you're not allowed to have a reoccurring NPC rival or something???No, you can have that, you're only forbidden from it reacting to your gameplay. If the NPC rival changes in any way between encounters then it can't be because of anything you did, it needs to be completely independent from you.
>>727624463As I said, jewish nigger legal system.
>>727622431>It expires in less than a year anywayIt expires in 2036, not 2026.
>>727624324Literally nothing. It'd probably never fly in court for real but it lets them control the market and push retarded charges on devs that can't afford the legal fees.
>>727621301I support abolishing patents actually.
>>727621301>following the acquisition of Warner BrosWhen did this happen ?
So I bothered to do some skimming, and frankly, netflix having the patent is about as much of a nothingburger as warner bros having it. There are two or three games that have came out since with systems that are similar that they did not pursue legally, one of which being Warframe which has been a massive commercial success, so it's definitely not like they don't have big enough pockets to pursue. The truth is that a lot of games just don't build organization simulations into their gameplay loop. It's a lot of content to make; effectively procedurally generating minibosses, linking them into gameplay regions and making reactive systems for them to change over gameplay. A lot of indies are scared stupid over the possibility of legal trouble without even considering there has been no public suits brought over the mechanic, as I understand it, ever.In short: Make your fucking game bro, nobody cares, and if they do care, the law is probably on your side unless you copied it line for fucking line.
>>727624421You're describing how patents are supposed to work, not how they work in practice. Even how they are supposed to work is excessively restrictive though. You are effectively forcing people to reinvent the wheel for numerous things if they don't want to pay up to whoever happens to own a patent, regardless of complexity.
Wow, I can't wait until Shadow of Mordor comes out and it's all about how orcs are heccin innocent persecuted minorities with families and children, while the true evil comes from racist white men.
>>727626260*new shadow of mordor
>>727622640Nothing is trademarked, if you wanted to make your epic anime 5 top bad guys leaders more strongest and baddest than everybody game nobody will sue you.Holy shit look at XCOM War of the (((Chosen))), it uses the same exact freeze frame and braindead immune/weaknesses bullshit that Shadow of War does and nothing happened to them. You just cannot steal their actual code.
Netflix is such a jewish fucking conglomerate. I wish it died.
>>7276258952 more weeks.
>>727624043Then Leigh Rothschild will buy the patents and sue everyone who violates it.
>>727626425This but Amazon
>Netflic owns Marble Madness nowGrim...
>>727626602>rather kill Amazon, that at least does something productive for society, than the full propaganda media machine that is Netflix
>>727621509>Just put the system in your game cowards, let them sue you for it (they wont) and become an internet celebrity for fighting back if they doI'll do it, it'll be in a racing game made by Aussies. Fuck these kike fucks. The whole notion of patenting mechanics......and now wanting people to fucking LICENSE them is fucking revolting.
>>727621301>Netflix acquires WarnerIsn't this insanely anti-competitive?
>>727626858No cause Netflix is basically an arm of Israel, er, I mean of the US government.
>>727626858Ever since the Disney acquisition of Fox was allowed, all hope was lost.
>>727621301Netflix owns WB now? The people responsible for all the gay and race-swapped soulless reboots now owns like half of my favorite childhood properties? God, what a dystopian future.
>>727626858OH CAN YOU SEEEEE
>>727626686Amazon is centralizing production and transportation under its control. That's infinitely more dangerous frankly. You may not see the cost yet, but you certainly will if you live long enough.
>>727627036This same thing happened when the jews took over Russia, btw. History rhyming like crazy
>>727626858Antitrust laws only apply to companies not owned by jews.
>>727627071Netflix is far more dangerous atm.
>>727625895They're finalizing it now. It was a three-way bidding war between Netflix, Paramount and the Saudis to own Warner Bros. This is...probably the least bad option we ended up with.
>>727621301>dude the hecking NEEMSIS SYSTEM was so revolutionary!!!>it's just enemies saying, "Oi, I remember you"...
>>727621301Patents don't mean anything, you retards. Just like how Ubisoft alrdy has dozen patents for forced fifty matchmaking but that doesn't stop anyone else from using it.
>>727627069>he needs to even check
>>727627698>UbisoftI mean EA* asyfaysghjdggh
>>727627785I knew already. just wanted to teach other anon
>>727621301So what's so unique about the Nemesis system that you cannot just copy while changing a few things?
>>727627935Nothing. It's just a jewish way to threaten people.
>>727621301>not calling for open sourcelol pussy bitch billionaire bootlicker fence sitting journalist faggot. Take a fucking stand for once.
>>727626694God speed cunt.
>>727628256Retard. There's no relationship with open-source and patents. Open-source only covers copyright, patents are their own thing.
>>727628549I'm not retarded. I don't care what you call it. The fucking journalists talk their way around these issues and the cattle follow. This is the kinda shit why people will tell you with a straight face, "hey! you don't own that game, only a license! and that's a good thing!"
>>727628643Using "open-source" in this context doesn't make any sense. It's, by all means, worse.
>Randomly generated enemies le REMEMBER YOU and you keep fighting them OVER AND OVER desptie decapitation, incineration, and feeding them to wild monsters a dozen times it's so HECKIN EPIC!tards who cream themselves over LE NEMESIS SYSTEM FREE DA SYSTEM unironically have room temp IQ
>>727621832and then you just add more templates depending on who the player killed
>>727621408Like seriously. It's hardly worth mentioning.>>727621475Indeed. You now know about your problem. Start working on it, else you end up as a failure.
>>727621301Wtf is the 'nemesis' system and why should anyone care?
>>727625882thisI completely agree that you should be entitled to make profit from your ideas but patents last too fucking longput a max earning limit and a time limit, whichever is reached first
>>727626602This but Disney
The problem isn't patents themselves, but software patents.
>>727621301I mean yeah, why not? Not like its rights holders were using it
>>727629245It's from the LOTR Shadow of War games. The game randomly generates orc captain elites that are the main focus of the gameplay loop where you hunt, interrogate, capture and/or kill them to progress map progress and campaign objectives. The "Nemesis System" is that the orcs remember you and how you killed them/they killed you if you sucked and died against them, and they get stronger with new abilities and come back to life to fight you again sometimes. For some reason brainlets think this was a revolutionary idea and demand that EA release the patent for the system from their evil clutches so a new golden age of games can make use of this brilliant system.
>>727629656EA published some LOTR games in the 2000s, but none with the Nemesis System. Those were all by Warner.
>>727621301They ANNOUNCED that they were buying the studio AFTER Warner sells off their cable networks in the fall of next year.
>>727629539The only time I've seen a corpo releasing a piece of software they acquired was RakNet. Sadly, it was useless because now everyone uses Steamworks for multiplayer.
So we all agree 1 is better than 2, because there are no niggers in 1.
>>727627036>Netflix owns WB now? The people responsible for all the gay and race-swapped soulless reboots now owns like half of my favorite childhood properties? God, what a dystopian future.I'm well and truly fucking over it. 4th Reich fucking when?
>>727621408retarded nigger thinks procedurally generated characters can only exist in one game
I need someone to explain to me what the fuck the patent was and why the "Nemesis System" was marketed so aggressively. Fucking Diablo 2 had randomly generated boss enemies with random attributes.
>>727621408this, reatrded nigger cattle jus jumping on the bandwagon as usual
>>727621301Why are they talking about it like it's some amazing innovation to have enemies come back with a scar an hour later?
>>727631973Okay wise guy, whats YOUR amazing vidya game idea then.
>>727628997The nemesis system very rarely worked like that and I'd even argue that the same orc coming back over and over again only happened when people just let them die in dumb ways or died themselves which fed into the "power" of the orc.I've gone through SoW twice and in both playthroughs only experienced a "dead" orc coming back once in each and they stayed dead after. It's extremely hard to die in SoW to begin with even on the hardest difficulty unless you're retarded or you're intentionally trying to allow the orcs to get stronger through killing you rather than controlling them through falseflag attacks against other orcs
>>727631973goycattle gunna goycattle
>>727621301You can put this thing in your game and as long as the code is not the same nor you market it with that name they can't sue you.
>>727632247Its fun to play it as a simulator/raising game more than anything else, which is funny to say for a LOTR game.
>>727621301Literally anybody could use something similar as long as they don't copypaste the code for it.
>>727632108Skyrim with guns
>>727621301If we're writing letters to Santa can we get a new RTS?
>>727626858Not really. Warner's been shuffled around between a bunch of different mergers over the years. We've just gone from AOL Time Warner to WB Discovery to WB Netflix. And Discovery's shit (CNN, Discovery Channel, etc) is going to be spun off into its own brand new company that isn't $37bn in debt.
>>727631973Honestly, I'd be shocked if all the hype surrounding this system wasn't just a psyop propagated by WB thinking they were going to release a new game eventually to standing ovation.
>>727631615The nemesis system is basically "What if those boss enemies had persistent stats and modifiers, and had a chance to follow you around while growing stronger". It's not super crazy, but it was nice in an otherwise pretty unremarkable series. Made for funny stories.
>>727621301If I was a game dev I would have put it in my game anyways without calling it the nemesis system and when they start bitching at me for infringement I'll just say "I didn't know this already existed, this was my own creation". If it gets worse I'll just pretend that I'm offended and cry racism because I'm brown. I'll just have to figure out which brownoid is the most oppressed nowadays and go sit out in the sun for a few minutes since I'm pretty much a hiki so I've lightened up unintentionally from that
>>727621301>For years, developers across the industry have wanted to use this system.Blessed patent protecting gamers from this shit.
>>727626858>Isn't this insanely anti-competitive?oy vey, we're gonna need you to turn down the antisemitism a bit
>>727635135Enemies have to be loaded and unloaded every time you go through a loading screen, what the fuck are you even talking about? This has to have been written by some dude in his 60s whose only ever played duck hunt.
>>727621301I forced myself to play through the first one a couple of months ago after owning it for years and hating it. I pretty much 100% it and have no fucking clue what the nemesis system even does. It's just some background shit that barely effects gameplay.>>727621509>put the system in your gameOr why can't they just change a tiny part of the system? Then it's not the same system, right? There are a million ways they could make it better.
>>727639142>I pretty much 100% it and have no fucking clue what the nemesis system even does. These are the people you're discussing videogames with on /v/ by the way
>>727621301video game patents are retardedtotal lawyer death
>>727639142It didnt do shit in the first game, that was all marketing garbage. 2nd game just had it pick a random faggot you killed to return like 3 times. Could be a neat idea if properly implemented but shadow of mordor games weren't it.
>>727639803>total lawyer deaththats antisemitic!
>>727621408Kill yourself zoomoid
>>727642328Prove you're not a zoomer in the next 30 seconds.
