>RAM going apeshit
Until they finally reveal how much they want for it, there is no reason to remember it. If they secured a deal with a price before the shitstorm, then it will probably be the best value PC on the planet, if they didn't, it's doa.
>>
>>727634462
it's just a little prebuilt computer, most people already have faster pcs running linux

AI is making ram prices sky rocket and that effects things
>>
Well its not actually available or even priced so I think people are holding out since there was nothing new since release. That said, I'm a bit annoyed that it doesn't have a RDNA4 GPU or at least one compatible with FSR4 / Redstone. Still its a decent little faux-console, but I'd rather build my own PC so its not worth it for me. I'm more interested in Steam Controller and Frame.
>>
>>727634462
At first over $500 was too much, the under $700 was sweet music to everyones ears, now no one knows anymore WTF is going on.

Not out yet and jeets used up all their izzat to doompost the Steam Machine for clicks. We'll just have to wait until Valve shows the real, actual price and the performance benchmarks come out.

Under $1000? I'm in heaven!

a PS5 pro is $650. its dead Jim

Not for long. PS5 also uses ram so the prices will climb up soon.

they use such a little amount of ram it's inconsequential
not to mention the ps5 pro does not compete with the cube, it competes with used laptops and 2016 dell prebuilts

More like AI-bomination, lmao. Every tech rollout these days got some OpenMouth executive somewhere whispering sweet nothingburgers while your RAM doubles in price overnight. I miss when hardware launches didn’t feel like stock market events with extra schizo sprinkled on top.

grim. so phuccen grim.
>>
>>727636583
they opted for a half decent albeit low clocked cpu then gimped it with high latency ram
it's not as bad as the ps4 at least
that thing was pentium 4 tier (the benchmarks are publicly available do not argue with me)

No I just meant to say that the market is so fucked because xbox shit the bed and I'm just reminiscing on good times right now lad.
>>
>>727634462
We'll be lucky if this thing retails for under $1000 and it's weaker than a PS5. You're better off building your own PC and putting steam OS (or not) on it... that's what happened.
>>
>>727636962
Don't mind me I have difficulties
>>

>>727634462
just not a good value without being heavily subsidized. its fine for non demanding 1080p but ps6 and next xbox will be out in a few more years and will shit on it hard and devs are going to start focusing on specs thats a gimped 6600 like the gabecube uses wont be able to handle well

GaBeN should've put effort into making fucking games instead of shit which costs 2x but has the 1/2 performance of his ops.

typical valve silence

>>
>>727638610

i don't give a shit about steamos and you're fucking clueless, it's a completely unexceptional distro
the ramifications of higher linux usage and its entry into normie spaces is what's great about this
>>
>>727634462
All the hype and talk about this shit ended overnight instantly the day the "priced more like a PC than a console" quote came out
>>
>>727634462
What's there to talk about? We don't know the price and it's not even close to being out yet.

Would having a new thread about it every 2 minutes make you feel better?
>>
>>727634527
I feel bad for Valve. Literally a few weeks after they announced that thing all that ram shit happened. I was interested in that thing too, it would be a perfect system for the living room. Now it will either get delayed or cost like 200 bucks more.
>>
>>727638173
you have to drop $$$$ to get double the performance of the cube, 98x3d+9070
>>
>>727638284

Anon have you not seen the ram prices already?
It'll be far more than 200 extra by the time this thing comes out
>>

no one's forcing you to switch, why so butthurt? is it because there's absolutely nothing to praise about modern windows?
>>
>>727635386
>it's not an arm cpu
damn, that actually really kills a lot of the excitement i had for the thing, i thought valve was actually being truly revolutionary with it but i guess it's only the frame that they're using arm in, lame shit
i guess that would explain why the gabecube is 90% heatsink, what a shame
>>
>>727638582
Only that, will reuse hard disks and psu the total was like $3000

Valve would have secured supply contracts months ago, and they would be long-term contracts for uniform low-end parts. The rumor Valve had bought up a warehouse full of low-end hardware no one else wanted might be true and play out favorably.
In any case they probably aren't going to suffer much with their 16+8GB Linux system. At least not compared to what a minimum spec Windows 11 PC is going to cost next year.
>>
>>727640523
I hope you are right, but I am still worried.

>muh gpu
does not matter in the age of upscaling
what matters is the cpu
you want as low clock speed, as little cache and as high memory latency as possible for the most authentic 24 fps cinematic experience
>>
>>727641648
>muh fake frames and fake resolutions
i play real games, so input delay matters, frame rendering delay matters, frames being fake and gay matters
but i'm sure if you're some kind of fag playing historia universalis or whatever the fuck gay ass 4x turn based niggershit, then all that gay ass fake frames fake resolutions high input latency/rendering delay shit is fine for you, but it isn't anywhere near acceptable for me
>>

thought it was going to be $999 but nah that's impossible
>>

they're not paying for it anywhere near as much as regular customer
getting those chips by the kilogram as a corporate entity is way cheaper and easier than you getting a ram stick

>>727634462
It's competing against windows 11 systems for people who need to upgrade, due to windows 10 now being unsupported. I think it'll still do fine if it's still around the same price as other pcs of similar spec
>>
>>727644518
not really
anyone on 10 can just upgrade by grabbing an amd gpu and installing bazzite
this might be a decent upgrade to laptop cucks, this thing is on par with a mobile 5070
>>
>>727644357
>halal leif ericson
>>
>>727644867
anon most people have a hard time with winrar/7zip, had this been 10-15 years ago I would agree that yes the average pc gamer could in fact do as you say, but by god have people became retarded.
They just need to secure a few million sales like they did with the steam deck for this to be considered a success.
