I'm a hardcore fan with FF8, so many times I would even try to escape reality with lucid dreaming, I would be in Balamb Garden where I would often train with Zell in the training center and help Selphie with the Garden Festival, but one day as I was talking to Selphie, we went to my dormitory for a private talk. I want to say WoW but my entire memory of that game post-vanilla is ruined, and only some parts of WoTLK for me I remember fondly, nothing captured me like 2004 Vanilla. The real answer is Starcraft, I can hear the loading screen, and opening soundtrack and every UI noise play in my head to this day. I spent so many hours of my youth playing SC custom maps, cat and mouse, murder mystery, role play servers, silly clip montages of people making micro stories play out with the Benny Hill theme song. I was and am still complete shit at RTS, but out of all the RTS I played Starcraft stuck with me and I played it the most.

Was able to get a small taste of it back when the remaster dropped but it didn’t last very long. afaik nothing has really replaced that genre… I’ll never stop being pissed at blizzard for sabotaging custom game lobbies in SC2 during the some odd years that the game was relevant. You could literally only see the most popular games being played instead of just lobbies. New custom maps had zero hope of any visibility, it was just nexus wars and whatever else for years on end.
