What went so horribly fucking wrong?
>>727638157for starters? this garbage shouldn't even be called a game, visual novels are cringeslop for npc incels
>>727638157The protagonist swap was the only good idea they had and they blew it on the first case leaving the rest to be just a by the numbers repeat of shit we'd already seen in two games.
>>727638157It didn't need to continue past 2 and the game wanted to be even deeper meta slop.
>>727638157>bait and switch chapter 1>prime minister of japan>ditched the potentially interesting concept of two killers killing separate people independently for a bog standard third trial>the only dumb thing about chapter 4 was everyone agreeing to go along with miu's bullshit>kokichi baited everyone too hard and put himself into a corner, tried too hard to be nagito 2.0, didn't address not trying to solve the case until shuichi already solved it>chapter 6 tried to say fuck the hope vs despair bullshit but still ends on hope>himiko>everyone aside from shuichi and kokichi being a complete dumbass during the trialsIt's a Shuichi/10 because he carries the cast
>>727640635I would add that the overall theme of truth and lies is already not a very good premise given it's a mystery game where there are right and wrong answers, but even then it's used as an author copout to not elaborate on a lot of things, such as everything Tsumugi said contradicting the intro.
>>727638157Terrible cast. They range from tolerable to completely insufferable.Even the designated best friend character Kaito, a character who should be likeable and whose sacrifice should elicit sadness, sucks because he's an asshole with a messiah complex.
>>727638157Nothing except V3-3, the rest of the game is good.
>>727638157Absolute garbage. Still better than DR1, though
>>727640973I don't mind the idea of using lies in trials to advance the discussion. Even Kyoko bluffed in DR1, sometimes it's necessary to get someone to say something they wouldn't normally. At the end of the day it's a linear story so you can't do too much aside from making optional scenes, and for the murders you can't make a lie that leads to the case being unsolvable. As for the game's themes it does kind of fall flat when the end says everything up to that point might have been a lie or it might not have been. Without a proper viewpoint outside of the academy it's impossible to tell.I do hope 2x2's new story uses some mechanic similar to lie bullets. It doesn't have to be the same thing, but having alternate paths through the trials is neat.
>>727638157They got full of themselves after Dangan's success and decided to stop the series after 3 games for no good reason. Then they saw the truth of the matter: that good ideas aren't easy to come by, and have failed to match that success since.
>>727641769Alternate paths in gameplay is perfectly fine and VNs have done that since forever. I'm bashing the themes themselves and the dogshit execution.
>overall pretty bad cast, best characters die way too early>forced early twist with the protag switch that only works the first time you see it>literally all lore, worldbuilding and character backstories are a waste of time>combined with really long trials the game just keeps dragging on >theme of lies just isn't as good as hope vs. despair even if the latter was getting stale>the ending which kind of boils down to "you decide what was true and what was false", seems like a copeout from having to stick what you wrote >it just overall has this feel of Kodaka being fed up with the franchise
>>727638157no Kokichi sex
>>727638157I liked it. I agree with that one anon that Chapter 3 might be the worst in the series (although Chapter 3 always sucks).Everyone who personifies the ending as Kodaka hating them personally or whatever has brain damage.
