How are these games? Are they decent JRPGs? Their bundle is on sale on steam. I've heard that Riviera's gameplay is pretty varied when it comes to skills/equipment, how true is that? Don't know much about Yggdra other than that it's a tactics game, but it comes with Riviera in that bundle so it might be worth it.

Rievra is one of my favourite JRPGs of all time.
Yggdra uninion is pretty good, but it has a lot of convoluted and poorly explained systems.

Why's that? What makes it so good?

Interesting setting, story and themes, likeable cast, good gameplay, GREAT music.

didn't finish either of those games so take what i say with a grain of salt
riviera felt like a dating sim with RPG mechanics tacked on to it. it was kinda cool but i got turned off by the insane anime aesthetic. nowadays i'm a lot more tolerant to anime so i might give it another shot at some point
yggdra union has a lot of weird systems that you basically need a 3rd party reference to understand

Blaze and Gloria Union never

Yggdra is good, but can be tricky. Also it doesn't explain itself very well. The dragon riding boss with the scythe is total bullshit, fuck him.

Ugh

riviera is beloved for a good reason
a cat is fine too

also, everyone owes it to themselves to give knights in the nightmare a try at least once in their life
there's a fair chance you won't make it past the tutorial

Yggdra has a very interesting war plot that I barely see any games do well.

Riviera has some annoying quicktime events but overall is a decent RPG dating game

Not him but Rievras execution was fantastic and it had plenty of cheeky interactions that showed the passion the devs had for this game.

Dealing with Gulcasa can almost soft lock you if you got Milanor equipped with something before that mission. Every big stars on him will be important on how you deal with him.
Mistel can deal with him better but considering she comes later and a PSP exclusive, you shouldn't put too much weight on her.

Do you already have it before your 1st battle with Gulcasa? I forgot already.

Hope they can put a Steam release on them eventually.

Yggdra if you're a fan of games like FE, Xcom, etc it's worth a try. It's a novel attempt at innovating the top down turn based strategy games genre.
Can't say much about Riviera aside that I had a pleasant time playing it, for a Japanese rpg there wasn't much grinding.

I think I'd enjoy riviera a lot more now than when I beat it on release. I'm pretty sure I didn't really understand the systems well enough and just brute forced through the game.
