This has some of the best horror atmosphere in recent memory, constant dread and anxiety. I really liked the stripped back controls and equipment, just movement, melee, shoot, and heal.
The main gameplay of exploration, finding clues to puzzles and keys to doors reminds me of the beginning of Re2 remake in the police station, except the game never goes full MCU with the action and quips, the entire game is like the best part of the recent RE remakes and also scratches the psychological itch that Cry of Fear left me itching to play more of. I will say I played it on standard and it felt like there was an over abundance of ammo, so maybe hard difficulty might make it a better experience.
>>
This is all true but /v/ hates it just because its a remake

The DEImake's character design sucks, with all the cast members looking like lanky Ayylmaos. The characters' roles, behavior and overall attitude are also much more 1-dimensional and flat, because you cannot have good points on a "villain", and a game about "sex and death" cannot actually show sexy characters. This also extends to literal censorshipping of PH's actions. He's now just The Movie's Executioner.
The voice acting is just as bad as in the 2010's HD Collection.
The new OST is over-produced the same way Lucas' butchered his Star Wars remasters' scores, similar to the Square-Enix's Final Fantasy X-X2's HD remasters' new OSTs; too many added layers of instruments muddling the melody and the early 00's punk-rock vibes, replacing it with something akin to a big band cover.
The use of said soundtrack is also way worse, with less thought put into the mixing. Why does the PH's appearance noise start playing randomly when exploring the streets before the Apartments? What's the point of the radio if it's constantly covered by the dynamic soundtrack blasting with max volume if you come across a foe?
The in-game and cutscene cinematography is all around inferior to the 2001 original, possessing all the telltale signs of the post-2010s' capeshit tropes.
The gameplay is yet another OTS Homocoming x TLOU x RE4R slop, focusing too much on combat and further destroying the brilliant camera-work and player guidance the originals had. It also adds fucktons of generic "open world" and "cinematic" busywork that plague modern triple-A shit.
The UE5 means that you need an RTX4000 series card to get even 30fps at 1080p, using DLSS, all while ruining your eye sight either with the TAA smear, or noisy, runny dithering. No in-betweens.
Finally, since 80 dollar price tag ain't enough, you gotta shill ebinn meme hat DLC to the Twitch audiences.
>>
>>727639534
Wrong.
2002 REmake 1 is a magnificent game, and beloved by almost every single RE fan.

The 2024 SH2 DE-make is just another generic over-shoulder action-slop (a la SH:HC), with some heavy censorship, literal yellow paint memes and QTEs, terrible performance, god-awful pacing, and zero replay value. It's a god-awful mockery of SH2, and every sarcastic meme about Westoid SH games made reality.

Nobody, not even the OG developers, wanted this shit to be made.
>>
>>727639672
i really like the voice acting for the new james but because they got rid of all the dreamlike qualities of the original, including the bad voice acting, it just makes him feel like a generic sad protag instead of someone a guy whos clearly not telling the whole truth. the new va knocked it out of the park for what he was given tho
>>
>>727640170
>including the bad voice acting
Not a single line in the 2001 original was "badly" acted. And every single voice actor in the DEI-make sounded typically monotonous and grunty, completely eliminating the intentional nuances and outright double-personalities some characters possessed. It was already a massive issue with the HD Collection, 15 years ago, but somehow the Polaks didn't catch the memo.
>>
>>727640498
lol the original was definitely badly acted although i always figured it was at least semi intentional. everyone talks very disjointed and never gives a straight answer to anything. i agree about the remake butchering it though, it keeps none of the spirit of the original while also trying to one-up it. especially angela and maria they both are overdoing it the whole game. eddie did fine but the new model for him looks like ass, he went from a fat guy who was bullied to a grotesque monster who was rightfully bullied. and like i said i think nu-james was great for what he was given, not his fault the direction they went in sucks ass

I'm up to Woodside Apartments, and I honestly quite like it. Yes the original is better. But this feels more like RE2 Vs REmake 2, where it supplements the original, rather than replaces it.
Voice acting sucks, and Angela's giant fucking head is the scariest thing yet, but fuck me that atmosphere. I love walking along the street and just looking at stuff. 40% of the businesses in South Vale are either cafes/restaurants/bars or auto parts shops, but you'll see neat things like the CD and Laserdisc repair shop, or the stripper school.
People go on about the yellow paint, but my game doesn't have it. Maybe it's something that they patched to be off by default now, and you can turn on in the settings. I still have the white rags around climbable windows, but I barely even notice it. And things like >>727639672, you can turn off prompts. James usually looks as shit that you can use automatically, which is kinda pathetic he isn't looking down right now.
>>
>>727645991
theres no yellow paint in this game but from what i remember most basic interactables (windows/crawlspots/dressers you have to push) have either a big white cloth draped over it or obvious scratchmarks
>>
>>727645991
There was never any yellow paint to begin with, only the white cloth. The only yellow painted equiavalent is the moveable carts.
>>
>>727645991
>where it supplements the original, rather than replaces it.
But the remake did replace the original to the point more people will now have played the remake than the original.
>>

>I'm up to Woodside Apartments, and I honestly quite like it. Yes the original is better. But this feels more like RE2 Vs REmake 2, where it supplements the original, rather than replaces it.
I mean isn’t that only the first 30 minutes of the fucking game? Maybe play the game for longer than 30 minutes before making such a bold statement about it, you fucking game journalist. Let me guess, you’re gonna declare it a masterpiece despite never even finishing it?
>>
>>727646374
>Let me guess, you’re gonna declare it a masterpiece despite never even finishing it?
Most SH2 fans declared the original a masterpiece despite only watching ecelebs fallate it.
>>
Gameplay sucks because enemies are copy and pasted over and over with little variety in how you kill them or what attacks they have. Bosses also suck aside from the Pyramid head fights
>>
>>727646374
to be fair you get to woodside like 1-2 hours in in the remake cuz they have you do a mini "dungeon" first and also explore the town a bit with a couple small puzzles. the remake is bloated to hell which makes nearly every dungeon feel like it drags on longer than it needs to
>>
>>727645991
there's no way in hell anyone under the age of 40 is playing the original Re2 unless they are an emulation enthusiast. Same with SH2, face it unc, the remakes are superior and are the definitive way to play
>>
>>727646585
>actually make the town more interactable and explorable, something fans have always wanted

You can beat the original in a thirty minute lunch break on account of nothing to fucking do outside of just progressing the story. It's not like there's anything to slow you down either, the monsters are too dumb and slow to be threatening.

>>
>>727646928
what? the new one is the exact same but now the game is longer and bloated with shit that doesnt add to the story and is just there to say that there is more content. the only "interactable" are the little memories photos that dont do anything and were just put in for people to solve the puzzle for an awesome lore theory confirmation. idk if you played the original and/or the remake but the length in the original was fine as is and it doesnt need sick collectables and interactables to make the STORY game better
>>
>>727647441
does that mean they had to uglify her
>>
I bought this the other day and I've played about an hour so far. I don't know anything about the original aside from the music so this is fresh for me. I've added a few mods to clear up the vignette and also restore the original music. My biggest issue is the performance. The stutters are annoying as fuck even with a community patch installed. Also modded in FSR framegen to use with DLSS which makes it much more fluid but it doesn't make the stutters go away.
>>
>>727647551
>idk if you played the original and/or the remake but the length in the original was fine as is and it doesnt need sick collectables and interactables to make the STORY game better
Like I said before, the original was a walking simulator that could be played in a lunch break because there was nothing to impede or naturally slow you down. When you complain about the length, that's just the remake accomplishing what the original could not. Even then, you can beat the game in two hours.
>>
>>727647441
My baby, FYI.
>>
>>727648075
the remake stretching out nearly all sections so that they all overstay their welcome isnt an accomplishment. playing through a story game for the first time means you naturally slow down since youre unfamiliar with most of it, obviously if youve played the game before and know exactly where to go and what to do then you can get through it pretty fast
>>
I liked this game so much I considered buying Silent Hill f if it was more of the same in Japan, but I watched some gameplay and the combat looks annoying as hell. I also hate the on screen health bar, the split second quick step dodge, it seems very much catered to a more Elden Ring tempered audience. I will just wait for the Silent Hill 1 remake
>>
>>727648263
>the remake stretching out nearly all sections so that they all overstay their welcome isnt an accomplishment.
Stretching out? More like actually doing something with the sections instead of letting them be nice backgrounds.
>>
>>727646928
>actually make the town more interactable and explorable, something fans have always wanted
Ah, marketing copy. Maybe be more subtle next time if you don't want to be rumbled so easily.
>>
>>727648896
You mean when you played SH you never wanted to actually see more of the town? Go inside all those buildings? See what's inside? You fucking liar.
>>
>>727648704
the only one that felt like it added enough to not feel like a slog playing through was the hotel, every other section was artificially stretched out and turned into a maze where the only "interactables" are samey enemies or a baby easy puzzle. woodside was super annoying to run around even with the shortcuts, the hospital was aids although they at least restrict you to certain areas at a time. the labyrinth sucks ass and imo its the area that least replicates the atmosphere of the original. all the downtime inbetween where you run around the town is bloated with mini puzzles and running in a straight line down the street ignoring enemies, very fun gameplay to you i guess but not for me
>>
>>727649239
the big interesting thing of the games was the mystery around how and why the town is fucking with the people in it, not whats on the menu inside south vale cafe and what beer they have at the corner store

It'll always be funny how Konami actually paid an OG dev (Tsuboyama) to make a twitter a month before the remake was released, to come out and say "no, we never wanted the camera to be dynamic for artistic reasons, it was a limitation" when a 2009 interview tells the truth.

The camera angle was a limitation by Silent Hill 3 when they refocused on the combat and made enemies way faster than in either 1 or 2. When you got to the hospital, some of the angles showed just how akward it looked when fighting off the slurpers. What's funny enough is that Team Silent were onto something when they made self view mode in SH1. Had they fleshed out more, maybe the world could have gotten RE4's camera angle before RE4.

>>
>>727651224
im complain about the optional shit im complaining about how the game is artificially stretched in the town "exploration" as well as all of the dungeons being nearly twice as long as in the original while not really adding anything new. all they did was turn them into mazes any replace the dreadfilled atmosphere of the original with mannequin jumpscares and "puzzles" that are usually just get the item at the end of the section to go back and progress in the main area. yes i know the original did that too but it was at least one or two per dungeon and not literally all you do
>>
>>727651514

The new trailer is definitely better than the previous one. At least this one is trying to follow the story and characters from the game instead of doing something completely retarded like Revelations.
