With Mario 64 DS I felt like the added level were cool, and even if the game had a weird fragmentation across all four characters, I was happy it could introduce a new generation to Mario 64 and show them why it was so cool. I cannot picture a kid playing Diddy Kong Racing DS and getting a good picture of what made DKR so good.
