It's very hard to call something retro when it's barely different gameplay-wise from what comes out today. You can't do modern games on SNES, but you kinda can on PS1, and very much can on PS2. Aside from VR, I'm yet to see a game that can't be feasibly downgraded to run on PS2, let alone PS3. Hell, they got GTAV running on it.

We have two styles of gaming. Modern gaming and Retro gaming. Modern gaming reflects the current paradigm of gaming while Retro gaming reflects all past paradigms that are not Modern. A paradigm in gaming is the pattern of game design choices, art styles, systems, mechanics, the way games were made and played. Gaming is always evolving and changing but paradigm shifts in gaming are rare. When the PS1came out there was a huge paradigm shift, gaming changed completely and it became the new norm, the same happened when the PS2 came out. The last true paradigm shift came with the PS3. Since then games have not changed, they're designed and play exactly the same and while technology has improved the graphics, resolution and presentation it is fundamentally the same. The PS3 remains modern and not retro until a new paradigm shift changes gaming completely, that has not happened and doesn't seem like it'll happen any time soon either. Who knows, maybe AI will change that in the future, until then no, the PS3 is NOT retro.
