Jesus fuck this is retarded. You create a niche internet trend based around the idea of "subtlety". It's pictures of hotel lounge rooms and a hallway in a church.9 year olds think it's spooky so they share it on TikTok and you make it marketable by putting a giant spooky monster with 50 teeth in this game with giant empty environments.I assume the person making this is at least 14 years old and old enough to use Unreal.
>>727652215That's just how every single "horror" idea ends up.>SCPOminous, shady organization with bizarre creepy dangerous but still containable creatures -> Outerfartversal Pentadimensional translesbian Tumblr accounts >Backrooms An error in the world, an endless hallway of droning yellow lights and the fear that something is following you -> EPIC adventure dimension with monsters and organizations and factions and rules and games and all sorts of stupid shitThe list goes on.
If it works it works. Let the kids enjoy the mascot horror slop. Subtle horror is better but its harder to sell.
>>727652215the entire internet and all videogames are now for mentally retarded brown children. if you're not a nigger and/or 9 years old, nothing will appeal to you
>>727652215>putting a giant spooky monster with 50 teeth in this game with giant empty environments. If there's a giant monster in there it isn't empty, just saying.
>>727652215You have to pick between making money by catering to modern slop taste or having a very good idea that no one will give a shit about
>>727652215the game is actually extremely detailed and well-made, but judging by your screenshot you just saw the thumbnail and made a judgement like a retard and shared it to everyone like anyone cares. There's literal gameplay on youtube of this game.
>>727652974Plenty of people cared about Pools and I don't think there's bigger threat in the game than static mannequins. It's just that LINE MUST GO UP UP UP MAKE MORE MONEY
>>727652795/thread capitalist globalism opening up the markets to the third world created our media environmentIt's all abhorrent dogshit for brown turd world children with IQ that will max out at 90 tops.
>>727652215I picked up a game at a flea market. The seller said, "Don't buy that..." I bought it. At home, I played it. It was ULTRA REALISTIC. A spooky face came out of the TV and said, "Hello, Michael Baker, who is playing this game right now. You will die." That is weird because that's my name. What a strange coi
>dude get your fucking cheap jumpscares away from my slowburn psychological horror so help me god
>>727653478Is there anything that becomes boring as fast as getting chased by a monster?
>>727652215Blah blah blah quit acting like this shit didn't exist since the dawn of entertainment kid
>>727652215Who fucking cares nigger. dont play the shit.
>>727652215>people are having fun making and playing video games>NO NOT THAT WAY AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEa gacha thread died for this

>>727653619>Where the fuck did she go?
>>727652215>subtlety
>>727652795>>727653420You mention browns as if whites, yellows, and blacks aren't equally guilty when it comes to that. It's all fucked.
>>727652758The purpose of entertainment is to entertain, not make money. Believe it or not, the two are mutually exclusive.
For me it's ninomae ina'nis
I'm reminded of a small trend on this site long, long ago about abandoned malls and making a game about the ambience and exploring a massive abandoned superstructure version.I suggested the idea of a monster appearing halfway through the game, but was instantly shot down for ruining the original appeal. And thinking on it, I agreed.I think about that every so often.
>>727655952yeah entertainment is made to entertain, but entertainers expect to get paid to entertain
>>727656325the lame extraneous monster is in the 'original' text that goes with the backrooms image and sadly, captured i guess the zoomer imagination more than the actual cool part (clipping through reality and getting stuck behind the scenes). that gen didn't grow up with truman show, matrix, and games where you sometimes fell out of bounds and saw everything from the back and that it was all just cardboard fronts and were also stuck there. They grew up on freddy fastbear monster nonsense and jumpscare letsplays and i dunno, minecraft which has no fronts and backs.
>>727652215The only one I liked was Transliminal. There's actually an option to disable entities so it's just comfy wandering in randomly generated rooms. It's actually spookier.Like in the playground area, setting off the lights and the alarm goes off.
>>727652215Players will quickly get desensitized to the horror atmosphere unless there's a payoff. I'm not saying the entire game needs to be about fleeing monsters, but it has to happen at least once or twice in the game unless you just want to sell people a boring walking simulator.
>>727652215The monster doesn't even look scary it looks like it wants to tickle me.Zoomers are pussies.
>>727656960Your zoomer obsession is showing. There are backrooms/liminal space games with and without monsters. They both have their appeal but walking through copy pasted environments without any interaction in a VIDEO GAME can get boring. I am fine with monsters in these types of games as long as they are used sparingly.
>>727655952>all succesful entertrainers are penniless
>>727657782There's room between nothing happening and getting chased by Mr. Wompybutts 90% of the time
>>727652215Yeah the whole "subliminal" element is naturally averse to mass-market methods. A monster in those environments eliminates the feeling it's meant to impose. It works in images, short videos and maybe even tv shows/movies if it's done with intention, but giving the viewer base level engagement nullifies the emotion. Kids will buy shit because they're dumb, that's just a fact of life. Actually not sure what there is to talk about desu. Slop gonna slop.
>>727655601????
>>727652215Is this a Poppy Funtime spinoff or just a total "not trying anymore" ripoff
i know it's been meme'd to the death by sharty but i actually like internet horror and slow-burn atmospheric horror without cheap jumpscares in generalliminal space and anaolgue horror was interesting because you had no idea what you were going against, what it was or what it wants instead of "guy with mask stabbing kids for no reason"
>>727659897Why bother asking if you were not going to play it regardless because you think being some sort of video game snob when you're a picky casual means jack shit?

>>727655952Can't make shit for entertainment if you don't have the money to make it
>>727660315Autistic people don't understand that people can be passionate about being entertainers but also unwilling to do it for free. To them, the act of being paid nullifies any passion for some reason.
>>727660058>>727660067Ask me how I know you're just obnoxious kids?Plenty of media has been made, you bitching doesn't change a damn thing.

>>727653463this happened to me once
>>727656325I've seen the concept executed decently well in the Oldest View, so I don't think the monster is necessarily a problem as much as the execution is. The key is to still have subtlety, mystery, and good suspense while including the monster. Then again, from the start, that series wasn't about the endless megastructure, it was about a man being trapped in an unnatural yet familiar roach motel.
>>727659992I think we need more nebulous threat horror. I remember this series called School Rumors which was pretty good. It never showed its monster at all, and I'm still not certain it even had a monster. It may have been that the building itself had come alive and was eating people.
>>727652215All the videos will put the monster front and center on the thumbnail because that's what generates the most views, but if the game follows the setup that the demo had, then you'll have to legitimately go out of your way to find and go to the obvious monster levels.
I identify this type of content as "gaze-core."It allows teens to just stare at stuff and not do much logical thinking. If they were logically thinking, it'd be "There is a hallway."Instead of logical thoughts, it's all feelings."Dark. I'm spooked! Maze. I'm lost! Monster. Ah!"Analog horror is gaze-core adjacent too."Pixelization. Ah!"They mention "lore" like it's intriguing to meThere is no trade in telling me about your games loreBecause it's retardedAnd my generations games were betterThey were made with brainpower with the intent of getting you to use your brainpowerI don't blame them. What kid would want to use brainpower when they can just walk around a spooky hallway for an hour and get an achievement.
>>727652215The monster design is stupid, but the game concept is cool. Horror Stanley Parable is a fun concept.
>>727661875I get the argument for games, but analog horror more often than not is all about ARGs. Those are all about solving riddles, cryptography, obscure historical references, occult knowledge, and thinking critically. The last one I got into had people arguing over Cold War history, Gnosticism, alchemy, Hieronymous Bosch, and carcinogenic chemicals used in the making of plastics in the comment section.
>>727661618i wouldn't even call it horror. there's a feeling of something being off but it isn't scary. for that reasosn i believe liminal space works best when it's not the main focus of the gameas for mascot horror, isn't the point that something that looks so cutsie and nonethreatening is twistedly evil? giving them shark teeth and blood all over the face ruins the appeal
>>727652215When it first came out I got baited by the title and trailer for this game into thinking it was a sequel to Superliminal until the monster showed up and I had to go check the developer. They even had the VA for Pierce doing the narration, I was pissed.
>>727652215I actually interviewed for a job at the indie company who makes this and they had no idea what to do. Some 19 year old tried to ask me questions and couldn't even turn on his webcam. Bunch of freaks. They got funding somehow, I guess I should make a liminal space tech demo and do the same.
>>727662490> there's a feeling of something being off but it isn't scary. That's surrealism.>as for mascot horror, isn't the point that something that looks so cutsie and nonethreatening is twistedly evil? The point of mascot horror is to sell toys. If the genre were more concerned with being scary, it mainly needs to concern itself with presentation. Fnaf is basically the only mascot horror game that actually succeeded at being scary, and all of its characters were ugly and off putting on purpose (barring a few exceptions). Fnaf fangames have come up with some genuinely disturbing designs. These probably don't look that scary here, but in their respective games they're horrific.
