As a big fan of the series (the video games primarily) my take is that:>If you play these games and actively know the stories, characters, etcYou will enjoy the movie>If you only very casually played 1 or 2 of the games or just saw some clips and such or are just an outsider seeing it because whateverYou will likely range from meh to not like the movieIt drowns you in shit that "the fans" will get but the average movie watcher will just ? at. Shit like the FNAF 2 gameplay office mechanics being shown by Mike, motherfucking SHADOW BONNIE shows up for 1 FRAME in the fucking movie so you blink and you literally miss it, since shadow bonnie/freddy were rare as fuck encounters in FNAF 2 game, Random callouts like the HURR HURR HURR song that only fans get, "kids can be so cruel" to describe Mangle (literally right from the description in Fnaf world), etc. etc.

>>727656346I feel like thats the big disconnect between audience and critics, if you have the 10+ years of context (jesus im old, i was in high school when the original came out wtf) and have followed these games, youll come out enjoying it. With fnaf you go in as a fan expecting a mystery, and having to put the pieces together. Its a skill you gained from the games. Critics who just watch movies look at it, see something thats definitely not in the wheelhouse of filmmaking norms, and they go away thinking it was awful. As the movie keeps going and all the pieces come together it clicked with me more. Movie critics are usually looking for a passive experience and inherently this os not a passive experience. as a fan I really liked it. Definitely hope the pacing of 3 is better, and despite how much more screen time the characters got i wanted more of them still. Not sure how 3 will remedy that with just 1 character and some phantoms though.
