Through /v/ endless shilling, I've decided to repick up Xenogears but jesus fucking christ the random info dumps, the shitty camera angles, the sucky ass battle systems, the "where the fuck do I go now???" always seem to filter me. I take a break for the work week and I completely forget who the fuck these Kiefer Sutherlands and Bart Simpson ass people are. Is there something I can reference while playing so I can refresh myself while going through this? When does the game actually get me to a place where I actually know wtf is happening.

>>727659243It takes 40 hours to get good and make sense. Just go with it and absorb as much of the dialogue as you can. The 40 hour mark to the end of the game is all plot revelation shit that makes it all click.

I might have liked it then, but when you put a couple dozen jrpgs under your belt it makes it harder to play a new one unless it has really interesting and fun gameplay. Xenogears doesn't have that, and I just don't get why it was never mentioned by more people, it has one of the most tedious and least engaging battle systems in the genre. It's super basic and your attack function takes forever. And you have to grind them up so your mech will have them too.In fairness some of the bosses have fun gimmicks that provide a little challenge. But then there's the platforming, which combined with the slowness of the combat and the random battles, feels torturous.The story is also badly told imo, cause I don't give a fuck about the party members. I want to know about this big mystery involving Fei and others, and I'm watching Billy's dad shoot himself in a giant kamikaze bullet. That's probably the coolest shit that happened, except they didn't have the balls to kill him off.The mech arena was also cool.
