Let's discuss Sylux from the hit game Metroid Prime 4What did you think of his plan? I didn't get it.
>>727659428They could have replaced him with a generic space pirate and the game would have made just as much if not more sense
>>727659428>Steal genetic freak mochtroids>Use them and space pirates to attack GF base>Accidentally get warped to another planet >Enter a healing pod and either let your metroid roam free or command them to latch onto the key guardians to slow down Samus>Somehow gain new pychic powers with the green energy (maybe?)Truly the big bad of all time
I liked his fight music and liked when he did this
>>727659428>Sylux is some B list antagonist he can't carry the game by himself>Needs some twist to work out great, he has massive player character bias so a team up would be fun>*is barely in the game at all*>THE ARCHRIVAL OF SAMUS BY THE WAY>He was played straight>All 3 minutes of his screentime>Turns out the game didn't move because he couldn't carry it>They even played his backstory too straight and lo and behold, it was dullhow do you look at this schizo faggot's face and read his plans which are borderline>Acquire metroid>Hire pirates>Attack Samus>???>Winand thing this shit is going to work out? he's built for forced team ups with Samus. and where the hell did tanabe hide his OST? what is that dumb silly song playing over his theme in the fights?all he had to do was be there and seethe but they still miscasted this blue autist's role in the game.
>>727659428Other M is to Samus as Prime 4 is for Sylux.
>>727660079>>Hire piratesHe actually mind controlled them using Metroids
>>727660146kek extremely accurate
>>727660215actually the metroids were mind controling him.
>>727660347No, the Metroids were his toolsHe stole a baby Metroid at the end of Federation Force
ITT we write a backstory for Sylux that would be better than what we actually got. I'll start:>Sylux is a nigger whose brother got George Floyded by Fed troopers and Samus didn't actually have anything to do with it, but he just hates her because he sees her as an emblem of the Federation
>>727659428HE'S NOT WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAK111
>>727660215>>727660347I haven't played a Metroid since Zero Mission. What the FUCK is going on with the lore?
>>727660632The Galactic Federation hired Samus to bring in Sylux's dad, a known phazon meth dealer, between the events of Prime and Hunters. His father had succumb to phazon madness so Samus had to kill him.
>>727659428>>727659754Do you think the "green energy" stuff will be relevant in the future?Maybe give it an actual name?
>>727660803Just a new flavor of Metroid bio-weapons.
>>727660896Maybe it'll be the new phazon and Samus inadvertently spread it across the galaxy when she planted that memory tree.
>>727660993>memory tree.wat
>>727659428How do you go from the cosmic horror that was Metroid Prime/Dark Samus to this jobber dude who is just angry his squad died, how did no one notice this was lame
>>727661035You plant a memory fruit that grows into a memory tree. Hope that helps.
>>727661168>who is just angry his squad diedHe didn't give a fuck about his squad. He was probably more pissed Samus destroyed the Space Pirate weapon he sought to capture. If anything he's likely driven by envy unless there's more to his backstory
>>727660632He was created by the federation to kill Samus in case she gets Metroided out, especially after she absorbed all that phazon shit and proved that she could generally go nuts and kill everyone. Then it ended up that the thing they created to kill her can just as easily kill them as well.
>>727661168Phazon was a terrifying antagonist. A somewhat sentient poison that spreads itself throughout galaxies.Who knows how many planets it had already consumed by the time Samus became aware of it.
>>727661168Honestly they should lean on a mad scientist element moreHe bio-engineered Metroids that can mind control and mutate othersThat's actually something and harkens to the Federation's own horrific experiments
>>727660632Literally the same backstory we got but with the addition that he was drafted as part of a botched experiment to recreate Samus' armor gone wrong and was set to be executed immediately after it went wrong to cover him upThat's itThat's how you convincingly give him hatred toward the Federation while still retaining the canon we were already givenHell, that's ONE of the ways you can do it There are so many methods to turn the ship around that I'd be flabbergasted if they somehow make his backstory even worse
>>727660896>aeion>phazon>green energythey never learn do they
wasnt sylux supposed to be a green haired girl
>>727661335I feel like we had it too good with Phazon. It should be the final boss of Metroid in general. Picture going from Dead Space necromorphs to uhhh idk space ticks I guess.
>>727661584Nah him being a girl was a popular headcanon because his bios would avoid using pronouns>>727661463Prime 4's terms are shockingly dullLike G2 Bionicle dull
>>727661584was he? I thought people always considered him a green robot dude
>>727661615Dark Samus and Phazon is the bigger threat but Raven Beak is the more poetic fight for a final chapter
>>727660632>Sylux is a clone and there's actually an entire race of him in unknown space plotting to invade the Federation, and the first Prime trilogy was orchestrated by him so he could create Dark Samus, and then his race could absorb her into their DNA to make them stronger and more resistant to biological weapons because a single genetically targeted disease could wipe out his entire race; he stole the Metroids from the Federation so he could create more Metroid Primes for this purpose, because his race's DNA is incompatible with humans and therefore needs a Metroid intermediary
>>727659428>What did you think of his plan?>Investigate any potential alien artifacts to give him a power boost to face Samus (like what we saw in Prime Hunters)>Mutate wildlife and set up two robots>Get green energy™ >Hang around in pod while doing all this >Let Samus and the Feds do all the work getting the Master Teleporter ready>But also actively try to kill them anyways and presumably just get the teleporter working by himself somehow if Samus and the Feds are all dead>Oh shit I can just make portals now lmao
>>727660632Sylux got drunk and high in public once and tried to grope a Federation senator's teenage daughter. He was arrested, lost his job at McDonald's and was subjected to scientific experiments by the Federation. The arresting officer? A young Adam Malkovich.
>>727661976>Oh shit I can just make portals now lmaoTo completely different dimensions too it seems.
>>727662635>To completely different dimensions too it seems. There's actual potential with this even if it's as contrived as everything else in Prime 4's plotHe can make portals to other dimensions, that alone can workThe stinger should've been him forcing Samus into a new dimension and a Prime 5 should've been her trying to find a way to escapeHell there could be native life in said dimensions as well that Sylux could subjugate or mutate further with Metroids
>>727659428To strand samus on a planet with no survivors
>>727662823Fuck that's a pretty good idea. You could go wild with creature and environment design. You could be creative as hell with items too.
>>727662961>Prime 5 is Samus trying to escape Sylux's newly discovered dimension >Prime 6 is about Samus investigating a cross-dimensional rift Sylux created before it expands large enough to consume everything with or becomes large enough to unleash the an entire worlds worth of abominations led by Sylux to invade with
>>727663248Kino
>>727661335Man I've been retrospective on the series recently and it clicked with me how fucking awesome the whole phazon thing was. Comes from a sentient planet that sends meteors to other planets to begin consuming them. That shit is cool man.
>>727661976>>727662823I thought the point of the pod and the Robots was he was basically gaining psychic alien green power shit the whole time?
>>727663650That seems to be it but "Green Energy" (I fucking hate that name) seems to be distinct from the psychic powers Samus used but they could be relatedThe Lamorn's story is over but maybe they weren't the only ones?
>>727663783ITT we also come up with a better fucking name for Green Energy, because holy shit that's the most uninspired fucking shit I've ever heard>Emerald Energy>Green Phazon>Psionic Energy>Big Dick Energy>Trump EnergyAny of these options would be better.
>>727660632I was the one that proposed the idea that he was an orphan of a war the G-fed caused and was planning to sabotage them from within but he spilled the beans to Samus when they were teenaged recruits because he thought she'd join him, but she snitched.
>>727664178Not bad. Do you think Sylux was hot for Samus in this backstory? She's never had a canon love interest before and probably never will, but for all the people who said Sylux is an incel (for no real reason I can see), maybe they should have actually gone with that and cranked it up.
>>727664178>>727660632The problem is the more elaborate the backstory, the less you can properly give it context in the game Remember, the worst thing Ridley has ever done and why Samus hates him more than anyone else in the series is never actually brought up in the games properSylux monologuing his backstory would be out of place and fall flatThe quick flashback was actually one of the better things they could've done even if it left a few more pieces left to be desired
>>727664343You kidding? This is Metroid Prime we're talking about. Just have the datalogs in the game be excerpts from Sylux's journal. Have it read like Elliot Rodger's writings, extremely cogent and lucid in some places and unhinged in others.
>>727659428Sylux should have been the penultimate boss or something, like Meta Ridley in MP1. Viewros and the tragedy of the Lamorn was pretty good stuff, but Sylux's place in the story (aside from kicking it off) felt like ass.>>727664013>holy shit that's the most uninspired fucking shit I've ever heardI went in expecting the time travel theory, and thought "green energy" was named poorly so they wouldn't spoil a phazon twist later in the game. Imagine my disappointment.
>>727664502>extremely cogent and lucid in some places and unhinged in othersThat would be awesome. Also Prime 2 had several "cutscenes" where Dark Samus was fucking around with the room and screwing shit up for Samus, but you could still move around in the room. Imagine that but there are sequences where you can interact with Sylux. That kind of thing would have been perfect for this game.
>>727664502>Just have the datalogs in the game be excerpts from Sylux's journal. And they're just lying around like that? This isn't like a Space Pirate base or Chozo ruins where the information is just naturally and logically there You'd have to be more creative than Sylux writing down a memoir that just so happens to be scattered all over the place Lab notes over his Metroid experimentation in an abandoned lab would be preferable with SOME provided added details to his past when appropriate >Elliot RodgerHere's the thing about Elliot RodgerPeople MOCKED his writingsThere's literally a book framing his writing under the context of a DOAWK styled parody because his writing made him look less intimidating even if he did actually kill people
>>727664783To somebody who hasn't played the game yet and probably won't, I heard some people who said the time travel has a small part but isn't the main gimmick like people thought. Is that true?
>>727664859>You'd have to be more creative than Sylux writing down a memoir that just so happens to be scattered all over the placeYeah, this idea would take some work to implement in a way that makes sense.>Lab notes over his Metroid experimentation in an abandoned lab would be preferable with SOME provided added details to his past when appropriateThat would be a good start.>There's literally a book framing his writing under the context of a DOAWK styled parody because his writing made him look less intimidating even if he did actually kill peopleI think this largely comes down to the fact that Elliot's sorority rampage was stopped by a fucking door. Clearly he didn't have the right beam to open it.
>>727664321Yeah we can go with that, but obviously not make it his main obsession. Got to make him alpha enough to see past the pussy and focus on the principle, that from his point of view she is a traitor. That was the main idea I had; that in his view, the G-fed are no less monstrous than the space pirates and Samus isn't on the right side regardless if they fight those that were responsible for her loss. Think of it like sort of opposition to Raven Beak's take, that might makes right and peace is achieved through power. No, to Sylux those who'd enforce their will for the "greater good" are just monsters with a silver tongue, with no understanding of difficult Trolley Problem scenarios. He thought Samus would understand him and empathize with his cause and she didn't, not because she agreed with everything the G-fed did, but because his actions would harm innocents and animals.>>727664343Literally just a series of fragmented memories could have worked, the explanation we do have, as others have stated, feels like half the story. It's so up to conjecture, the people who didn't watch the full cinematic interpreted the memory flash as him being mad that Samus arrived too late as to why he was upset, where as to now, the full video makes some interpret it as "Samus stole his glory" or "Samus stole his weapon".
>>727665067>where as to now, the full video makes some interpret it as "Samus stole his glory" or "Samus stole his weapon".There's vague where multiple answers are either presented or thought up by the audience and that's goodPrime 4's Sylux is vague and not in a good wayIt's not a mystery that's better off left unanswered because there is clearly supposed to be one interpretation and whether or not the vagueness is intended to be cleared up in the future, it greatly affects Sylux's appeal as a character and especially as a villain.
>>727665067>Got to make him alpha enough to see past the pussy and focus on the principle, that from his point of view she is a traitor.I'd like to figure out some way to give him both the alpha-ness of having principles that Samus acted against and the emotional tension of him having loved her once, even if she didn't love him back, but you'd have to do that just right or you'd risk him becoming just some random unhinged incel instead of somebody you could believe as the leader of an army. But since Myles was in the game, he still wouldn't be the most cringe character even if they did that.
>>727660632>Sylux is secretly Myles>S oylux betrays the whole team and kills them all>Final boss is him doing Marvel quip slop while shooting at you, except it's completely self-aware and he does it on purpose because he knows it annoys you
>>727665318For me, it seems pretty obvious that he did not care about his squad. People saying it's literally the stick-in-the-bicycle comic are over interpreting the shaking hand as being representative of anger towards that. That fact that he's so obsessed with the weapon, coupled with Samus destroying the weapon and him absolutely wanting to skewer her in the final fight indicates that the weapon is the reason he's mad.But no one would normally be that upset about that, like its a weird motivation to be that obsessed with something you don't know about. So I'm thinking there was something about the weapon he knew about and absolutely needed. Then of course, we have the aftermath events.
The problem with Sylux isn't just that he's the main villain nowIn a vacuum, he's fineThe problem is that he's naturally gonna be compared to Dark Samus, the SA-X, and Raven Beak as a main villain and especially as a Samus counterpartHim talking more doesn't help because him trying to smack talk while Samus gives NOTHING just makes their interactions awkward and just signals to the player Samus doesn't take him seriouslyIt's not just he's being compared to main threats either, there's also the rest of the Prime Hunters bounty hunters that he's gonna be compared toTrace fans can argue that the Krikens would've been better villainsKanden fans can argue their favorite character actually lives up to the lab experiment idea that Sylux apparently is looking less and less likely to be as.Weavel being a space pirate that was actually disfigured by Samus makes him having a grudge against Samus more compelling by default because she explicitly wronged him whereas Sylux's (possible) grudge is based on entitlement. There's also the big elephant in the room with SyluxHe's explicitly tied to the Galactic Federation who are arguably the least interesting pillar of Metroid's loreThey have their fans, Dane is cool, Anthony Higgs was the best part of Other M, etc but almost everything about them has been done better in other works of science fiction. The most interesting part of the Galactic Federation IS the signs of corruption and their attempts at recreating technology lightyears better than theirs'.Sylux can fulfill the latter but the former?Prime doesn't like to acknowledge potential Federation corruption, that's Sakamoto's focus with his side of Metroid and after Prime 4's Feds mostly fell flat at best and are outright disliked at worst don't see how you can squeeze in Sylux lore to make him more interesting aside from a bunch of convenient scans.
>>727665719>So I'm thinking there was something about the weapon he knew about and absolutely needed. One of my potential headcanon interpretations is that he he was horrified when he saw Samus effortlessly destroy it because it signaled just how badly of a leap in advancement she is compared to everyone else in the galaxy.Samus unintentionally created a new nuclear arms race, one that Sylux paid the price for depending on how the full story on how he got his suit goes
>>727665828So you're thinking its a Vegeta situation?
>>727660632He want to date Samus but got rejected like Titan in megamind. And when at the end he takes off the helmet he has the very same face as Titan. HIRE ME
>>727665908More like>Sylux witnessed just how powerful Samus is and was shell shocked over it >Becomes conscripted to partake in a secret experiment to emulate Samus' power and as a means to get a lighter sentence after disobeying orders (or he was conscripted after seemingly being let go) >Loses all his flesh in the process, unlike Samus who can turn off her suit if she wanted>Propaganda following his escape labels him as a petty thief to avoid any potential blame for the Federation>Blames the Federation for robbing him of his humanity since it was their experiment gone wrong>Despises Samus because he envied her or the fact that the experiment was done to replicate her or how the Federation has become over reliant on her but also because he knows she can turn off her suit at any time unlike him>Also fuck the Space Pirates, they're gonna be slaves and experiment fodder now
All the vagina imagery is making me think Sylux is thematically supposed to represent toxic masculinity and he will return as a giant blue metal penis in Prime 5.
>>727665950Sorry, not enough trannies and niggers. Also, you gave Donna in HR the ick because you're 5' 8". Your application is rejected.
>>727663453What if Phaaze wasn't even the original phazon planet? It's just another planet that got infected by the original Phaaze that's somewhere deep out in space.
>>727664013Viridium
>>727666158Ah, I was thinking you were saying he wanted to basically get patenting over the pirate weapon to obtain power, then saw Samus effortlessly nuke it and pitched a fit, because he been envying her since before that event.Son that cycled out into basically stealing the closest thing to a reverse engineered power suit and trying to get it up to spec to challenge her, all for Vegeta styled pride.I DO like the idea that he was experimented on as punishment, but the idea that he just stole it and became a bounty hunter just in a quest to be stronger than Samus also works.
>>727666656pretty good desu senpai
>>727666354>He doesn't know about the "Phaaze was always prime "blood" and that Prime wasn't a mutated metroid, metroids were a mutated it" schizo theory.
>>727666805I like the schizo theory. Where can I read more?
>>727666805Never heard that, but it's interesting.
>>727666887>>727666887Basically, the entire explanation of how Prime was created was conjecture. There were differences in the original and PAL release of Metroid Prime's lorebook that retconned certain things, because there was inconsistency in how the phazon sealing cypher worked.Originally, Prime could leave the cypher willingly and stole pirate tech, that's why it has your beams and missiles. This was retconned in the PAL Either way, the developmental inconsistency shows they probably weren't thinking of Prime as metroid the Pirates brought that mutated once it got access to "The Worm", rather it was the worm itself.Prime was in development congruently with Fusion, and the manga was being written around this time, but there is very little evidence the writing was being kept so consistent that when Sakamoto made it canon Chozo created metroids that prime was being designed around that fact (I.E, Metroids on Talon are never explained officially and might have been there based on the assumption all Chozo just.. have them)Point is, it is possibly Retro intended Prime to be, well, Metroid Prime (First, of main importance).Obviously, by 3, Sakamoto had long since established the narrative that Chozo made the things, so Corruption expanded upon the lore by introducing the idea that Leviathans travel through space, land on worlds and corrupt them, but not before brainwashing the strongest creature in the area and mutating it into a guardian.Bam, there's your explanation, clearly Prime was just a guardian right? But where's the core? Well people head canoned that metroids are so strong the metroid just ate the core and became it. So you go through Phaaz and right before Dark Samus, you realize you're in a replica of the Impact Crater and there are fossilized Metroid Primes in the walls. So it's almost like they're implying that phaaz wasn't the origin and it was infested by Primes who crashed down on the world.
>>727661793nothing poetic about RB, he's shoved in. Poetic would be some kind of massive freak metroid mutant which is more fitting for dark samus
>The Thoha Tribe of the Chozo can control Metroid >Sylux can control Mochtroid>Gets a significant boost in psychic power when exposed to the green energy, much more so than what Samus got I'm thinking that after seeing the power Samus had Sylux gave himself some Chozo DNA. Maybe he got it from Samus's blood, maybe he found some preserved Chozo bodies, maybe fucking Raven Beak gave it to him I dunno
>>727667957Sylux's theoretical lab would be such a cool idea that it pains me it'll likely never happen>Prison labyrinth of Federation troopers and Space Pirates turned into monsters >Room of Power Suit recreations he spent time studying on (might even animate by themselves to catch Samus off-guard)>Trophy room of various artifacts he collected to match Samus' power including potential Chozo stuff albeit minor But no, the big reveal in Prime 5 will be>Sylux rebuilt the Space Pirate weapon even though Samus didn't treat it as a threat that much
>>727667957This might not be a bad way to do it. Dark Samus and the SA-X were two different versions of the same core idea that were used back to back in the series, so you could do the same basic thing with Raven Beak and Sylux. Both could be figures from Samus' past, but the particulars of her interaction with each of them would be very different. It would have also been cool if Prime 4 would have had some kind of connectivity with Dread, like how the first Prime let you use the Fusion Suit if you linked the games. It would have been cool to use her suit from Dread in Prime 4. But then again it would have also been cool to not make the player pay extra for background music.
>>727666805>>727667626I think you have to keep in mind Prime 3 clearly set out to iron out the problems of Prime 1's story. They intentionally showed Phazon Metroid evolve into mini Metroid Prime looking Hopper Metroids. They intentionally showed that Phazon Metroids can move through walls, which helps explain how a Metroid managed to get into the Impact Crater in the first place. They intentionally showed the Leviathan to make sense of the ancient Chozo writings referring to "The Worm."Those husks have to be interpreted in light of that.
>>727668418I don't think they have to, as the common cope as to what they are on /v/ is for the most part, nonsense.
I like how /v/ thinks Sylux didn't live up to the hype but can still think of ways to make it work without breaking canonBut that begs the question, how is Nintendo, Tanabe, and Retro gonna make it worse?
>>727668856I don't think they can at this point. They fucked up so hard that the franchise is dead, so there's no way for them to make it any worse because there won't be any more games.
>>727668927If Metroid can survive Federation Force, Prime 4 isn't gonna kill the series or Retro
>>727659876turning into the Taz tornado and raping Samus inside of it
>>727660632Sylux is actually Ridley in disguise
>>727668968This is 1000 times worse than Federation Force. People didn't wait 18 years for Federation Force, and it didn't cost $70 or have music locked behind a paywall, empty featureless deserts or the most cringe character in sci-fi since Jar Jar. I was expecting something aggressively mid, but this outdid my most pessimistic projections. It's a goner.
>>727668389>It would have also been cool if Prime 4 would have had some kind of connectivity with Dread, like how the first Prime let you use the Fusion Suit if you linked the gamesI thought for sure the Dread amiibos would let you do that.
>>727669127Everyone loved Dread, Metriod is not dying. /v/ is in hysterical Tortanic mode over what is simply just a lackluster entry banking on an out-of-touch notion that people would enjoy having space Marine bros.
>>727669408 Please understand, I waited 18 years for this game and to have it finally come out for it to be 6.5/10 hurts.
We don’t talk enough about how much of a cancer Aonuma has been for Nintendo as a whole.
>>727669408desu the game deserves to get TORtanic'd. For whatever complaints you may have had about TOR, at least it didn't lock background music behind a figurine of Darth Revan. That's the kind of shit you would have seen in a gaming webcomic 20 years ago as a satirical situation that could never happen in real life.
>>727669493Really? Because I would have just been happy the Metriod Dread was really good and successful.I feel like most of us kind of knew there was a problem because of the time between development.
>>727669565I do love Dread but I wasn't looking forward to that game like I was Prime 4.
>>727665950>titan It's TIGHTEN. Watch the movie.
>prime 3 secret ending is sylux>federation force secret ending is sylux>prime 4 secret ending is syluxDid this character really need to be built up for such a long time
>>727669127>>727669408The concern is how much Prime 4 needs to sell to make a profit (between the two relaunches and arguably Harmony) and the less than stellar scores make it harder to sellIt won't outsell Dread methinks But of course this only jeopardizes Prime and still, Nintendo seems to be aware the additions to the formula would have been controversial We only found out about the Feds in the game less than a month ago ffsIdealistically speaking they'll recognize fans do love Prime and want more, just not without the caveats and the reviews ranging from bog standard 8's to even 6's stem from what didnt work rather than the formula they've already established to begin withIt's one of those rare moments where we fully agree with the journos and their gripes with the gameLike him or not, Tanabe STILL wants more Metroid Prime and he's the guy at Nintendo pushing for the story he wants told to continue Retro's interest may depend since they historically had disliked sequel fatigue but they've already got something of a skeleton done with Prime 4 and while a new DKC would probably be safer, they're still a potential choice for Prime 5 simply by existing (of course they can still do both, just not at the same time unfortunately) Nintendo may not be pushing Prime 4 as expected but they're proud enough of it on a technical level to showcase what their hardware can manage even if it's inferior to the competition
>>727669729>You can have the race of alien invaders so hated the Space Pirates and Federation agree they deserve to be handed a genocide or.....the mystery box
>>727669729I mean, I did always want a human villain for once, just because it stands out in a series where there really aren't any human villains.Of course, a chozo villian was always the coolest concept and Bird Dad delivered, but still you have to give Sylux some credit. It's just that, what we're given about him is a bit weak.
>>727669681I don't watch old movies like that
>>727669740If Nintendo was actually proud of this game we would have seen the biggest promotional blitz they've ever done. There would have been a barrage of commercials on prime time TV, ads at the top of every major website and a float of Samus in the Macy's parade since this release comes so close to Thanksgiving; they had other floats in the parade, but not her, which is very telling of their confidence in this game. They would have done all of that, but instead they barely mentioned it in their Directs and they're not talking about it at all even on their social media. They knew it was fucked.
>>727669897>Bird DadWho's your fav e621 artist?
>>727659428Cinema
>>727669874My only issue with the Krikens is their design is silly. Why are they space pirates with floating teardrops for heads?
>>727669958The guy who draws Tiffy Cheesecake.
sylux stocks will rise high with prime 5, buy his amiibo while you still can
>>727670110>implying there's even going to be a Prime 5 after this unmitigated fucking disaster
>>727670159M-Maybe they'll learn from their mistakes and make Prime 5 really good after hearing the fans out
>>727670159The only thing that stopped Sakamoto from continuing past Other fucking M was finding a development team available for itPrime 4 isn't gonna sell gorillions but it's not gonna bomb horribly that causes a Pluto Nash day scenario in Texas
The game is a HUGE hit. I would not be surprised if it outsells Dread and dictates the direction of the series going forward.
>>727670198Metroid Prime IV: A New Cope
>>727670224You fucking serious m8? Even the journos and influencers are telling people not to buy this trash.
So I just saw the secret sylux origin cutscene, if I understand correctly Sylux was a squad leader who went against orders due to him wanting to be a hero and because of it his squad died because Samus destroyed the weapon he wanted to secure. Now he is all butthurt and blames Samus for his failure. Correct?
>>727670293Not him but the reviews are mostly positive, just not outstanding and with every egregious flaws that prevent the game from achieving true greatness
>lets talk about this gameFuck you reddit goysloopper yous upport the idhehdhehbf fuck you you killed this series prime is dead all primes sick now all games suck fuck you if you enjoy things
Raven beak should have gotten an amiibo
>>727670293The same journos and influencers who happily eat up slop like god of onions and the troon of us which have far worse characters and gameplay?
>>727668418So it would be reasonable to say that the MP life cycle is: Metroid gets delicious candy (Phazon), becomes a Phazon Metroid, then becomes a Hopper, which then matures into a Prime. It makes me wonder how the other stages of a Metroid's lifecycle would react to Phazon. Primes also seem to be capable of assimilating tech, as evidenced by the one we fight in the first game not only having our weapons, but also when it snatches the Phazon Suit and uses it to form a new "shell."
>>727670327>Now he is all butthurt and blames Samus for his failure. Correct?Read the threadThere are multiple ways to interpret this and it wouldn't be surprising if it's still not the full storyThat's just how he met Samus to begin withOf course this could all just be cope and this literally IS the guys' story
>>727670371>which have far worse charactersExtremely debatable.>and gameplayThe absolute most generous thing you could possibly say about this is that it's a bargain bin version of the first Prime. And seeing as the first game is cheaper, why wouldn't you just play that?
>>727670330>the reviewsDo you not realize that 80% is literally the bare minimum you can give for a paid review while keeping your jobIf you read what the reviewers are actually saying it's clear they'd happily give it a 60.
>>727670450>Do you not realize that 80% is literally the bare minimum you can give for a paid review while keeping your jobNow look at Federation Force's score
Federaton Force was definitely better than this. Can we all agree that Next Level Games > Retro?
>>727670482Nintendo didn't bother paying for a 80 at minimum, so what.
>>727659428I didn't get it either, OP.I think MP4 would have been a lot better (story-wise) if it was a simple race between Samus/the GF and Sylux/the space pirates to get off Viewros. Then we could have had pirate logs, at least...and maybe an actual mid-game fight against Sylux over a teleporter key or something. Also, why the FUCK were metroids relegated to being weak points on big dudes? The pirates and them basically disappearing after the intro is ridiculous.
>>727670327We don't know key details that would make it apparent what his motivation is for wanting to kill Samus.
>>727670517Next Level Games worked on Prime 4 too
>>727670448>worse charactersNo it is not debatable in the slightest the dialogue isn’t even that terrible compared to movieslop like god of war. Kys even this game as shit at it is still runs circles around those games
>>727670657Wasn't it just asset stuff?
>>727670654The original descriptions just suggested he wanted to kill Samus because she's the Federation's lap dog
>>727670827Yeah but the cinematic doesn't explain his hate for the federation at all. It isn't likely that it formed in that very moment, just because Samus destroyed the weapon.
>>727668337>We'll never see his lab and read the logbook entries where he tried in vain to recreate Phazon >Halfway through his logs as his frustration grows it turns into a rant about how Samus and the Galactic Federation "selfishly" destroyed what should have been his It's not fair
>>727670873Hey, now that you brought it upIt really does seem like they made it deliberately look like that first flashback seem to suggest his grudge toward the Federation and Samus was some "Why didn't you save us" sort of dealNow with the true context of the flashback recontextualizing the incident, it takes away the assumption on why Sylux hates the Federation so much and leaves room for something else to be revealed in Prime 5
>prime 4 flopped is hated and the series is dead forever Good you faggots deserve it for shitting on the best metroidvania silksong. Metroid is dead for good now hopefully Nintendo and steam are next
>>727671041inb4 nobody at Nintendo even thought of him having a lab to begin with, he can just make mind controlling Metroid clones.....just because of....indigo energy
Really looking forward to compare and contrast credits information between Prime 4 and Tropical Freeze
>>727670198>>727670239If Prime 5 does happen, we know they probably heard back from marketing pointing out the obvious flaws and then saw all the reviews after the came out saying the exact same things.

>>727671041>Sylux's Log, Day 235: My attempts to artificially produce Phazon through Metroid-based biosynthesis have met with another failure. After consultation with the AI, I recalibrated the bioreactor again and fortified the feedstock with extra vitamin S. I do not foresee any further problems using this setup. The Metroids' metabolism should now be sufficiently fast to obtain usable quantities of Phazon. Soon, I will have the power of a Leviathan at my command, and the galaxy will tremble.>Sylux's Log, Day 368: My phased tachyon inversion microscope broke down. I emailed tech support about it, but it's been 3 days and no response. Sadly I can't just order another microscope on the astronet because I'm banned from all Federation finance networks. But I will not be deterred. Samus Aran will pay for what she did. I'll just have to steal another microscope. The last guy I stole a microscope from made a satisfying crunch. Like a bowl of cereal. I should have some breakfast. I've been up for 42 standard hours. But the only thing I have around here is Metroid feed. I'd kill somebody for a nice plate of Sheegoth pizza. And I just killed somebody last week.>Sylux's Log, Day 447: FUCKING GOD DAMN NIGGER DICKS! How the fuck am I supposed to kill Samus if this fucking thing won't give me any Phazon? I owe her so much. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be the man I am today. I almost miss her. How is that possible? The last time we met, the only thing she had to say to me was in the form of cannon blasts. But sometimes a girl gives you a shit test, and you have to be a man to get past her emotional walls and the barrage of missiles. But how did she even get like that? I'm pretty sure the Jews did this.

>>727673680>I'd rather had a game playing as Sylux. His final boss fight showcases his kit is more geared toward combat rather than explorationinb4 portalsAre fucking game breaking for a Metroidvania
>>727673745>portalsYou wouldn't start out with him having portals, he'd have to build himself up just like Samus. Or they could do it like Richter Mode in SOTN/Julius Mode in AOS so it's an extra mode unlockable after you beat the game as Samus. In the extra modes you generally start out with improved movement abilities because it's a reward for beating the game in the normal mode.
D-did they literally copy the main villain design from Made In Abyss was that the inspiration?
>>727673882How would you recontextualize the moves he used for his final boss fight for exploratory purposes?
>>727673907Prime Hunters predates it
>>727673907Sylux has existed since 2006.
>>727673745Obviously they could make his moveset to whatever they want, but It doesn't really matter; I think Sylux has a neat design but I'm not that attached to him (or Samus). I'm just saying Metroid has been in a creative rut more than it hasn't.
>>727673994>>727673994You expect me to remember Metroid Prime lore from 20 years ago? But yeah, it was stupid to say they referenced a villain from an anime that came out in 2017.
>>727673932Mostly by not giving them to him until later. He'd start out with basically just the Shock Coil, but maybe later on you could have him throwing portals around to get over pits that Samus gets over by using the Spider Ball or Screw Attack.
Metroid villains shouldn't talkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ14kuB7Y6o
>>727673932The tentacles might be Sylux's replacement for missiles. Whenever you hit the missile button while playing as Sylux, he spawns a tentacle like Dr. Octopus, or Solidus Snake's power suit at the end of MGS2. You can have a few different tentacle functions, but Solidus' tentacles launched missiles, so that would definitely be something they could do. Actually I think it would be cool to make Sylux play like Solidus in general, giving him a dash attack and an energy sword to Metroidify it. It was such a wasted opportunity that we never got to play as Solidus given how awesome his moves are, so it'd be nice to have that resurrected in another form.
>>727673646>>727673907now i wonder if el pedofilo was inspired by sylux when designing bondrewd

>>727675537even if Prime dies it doesn't necessarily mean the series is dead. 2D Metroid was gone for 15 years and then we got Samus Returns and Dread within a few years. I would be surprised if they don't make another game with MercurySteam at some point. worst case scenario is 3D Metroid takes another hiatus until they figure out what to do with it, which has happened to 2D Metroid twice. but I think we will get Prime 5 for better or worse, the reception to 4 has been pretty solid outside of this site.

>>727660803It's Prime anon. While it does all technically happen between Metroid 1 and 2 you can still pretty much entirely disregard any story of the Prime games in the grand scheme of Metroid.
>>727675732>the reception to 4 has been pretty solid with mindless drones who don't question anything and just consume product and get excited for next product
>>727676110Even mindless drones have a tough time justifying this purchase given how bad the rest of the economy is.
>>727676110The reception even from people who call Prime 4 a good game still has the criticism from the people who say it's a bad gameIt's never "the Feds and desert are good" and always "the Feds and desert aren't THAT bad"

>>727675902Nintendo has been so drunk on the Switch's success they don't notice or care about anythingThey WILL continue to push slop, they WILL continue to create dogshitIn fact, it was only until yesterday I believed TotK was a sequel to BotW when in fact, it isn't; half the lore doesn't translate between the two, and things like NPCs who should know who you are from interacting with you in BotW act like they've never seen you before in TotK. Unlike Majora's Mask which was marketed as a direct sequel to OoT so it reused its assets, there is no connection in BotW to TotK; it is the textbook definition of soulless cashgrab
>>727676165I just want to emphasize this because we've never had a Prime game release in this kind of economy before. Metroid was never a top-selling series, so it's going to be hurt more by the general economic malaise than a series like COD would. Some tendies are still going to buy it regardless because Nintendo has figured out that they don't have to try with these people and they'll eat up any old goyslop with the Nintendo brand attached to it even if it means they don't get to eat that week. Is all this headcanon? Is there a longer version of his flashback cinematic that I missed because I couldn't be asses to 100% or something? Were there sylux scans? Apparently the game no one even pretended to play, federation force, had sylux lore? Like what's all this shit about the flashback was about him trying to get a pirate weapon and Samus destroyed it?One anon even said he "talks more" than the other metroid villains but literally he just went "im killing u >:(" it's not like Raven Beak who was completely explained, calls himself samus' daddy, and taunts the shit out of her. Also i thought Samus would put the seed in like a computer or something to extract the knowledge and share it with the GF. how does planting it in the middle of nowhere preserve the Lamorn's cultural legacy? >>727695198This from the master writers that brought you "Green Energy"!
>>727670379>So it would be reasonable to say that the MP life cycle is: Metroid gets delicious candy (Phazon), becomes a Phazon Metroid, then becomes a Hopper, which then matures into a Prime. It makes me wonder how the other stages of a Metroid's lifecycle would react to Phazon.Yes, but I think the developers were just creating a direction not a full lifecycle. There would probably be more steps than that. The standard Metroid "lifecycle" might only exist on SR388 and places designed to replicate its environment like the BSL. This is decently consistent with every game except for Other M (surprise), which can still be explained. Metroid II remake implies this was not part of the plan from the Chozo, which would be strange if it was built into their DNA.>Primes also seem to be capable of assimilating tech, as evidenced by the one we fight in the first game not only having our weapons, but also when it snatches the Phazon Suit and uses it to form a new "shell."This is a problem with the original Metroid Prime lore which was contradictory. Metroid Prime was both sealed in in the impact crater, but somehow was outside of the crater so that the Space Priates could run experiments on it. It absorbed their technology, which ties into it stealing Samus's suit upgrade at the end of the game. The PAL version and every version since removed the assimilation of technology, but it couldn't remove the cutscene. It's just something it can do that doesn't really tie into anything and is never used again. Dark Samus just stays Dark Samus after that. Never even returns to Metroid Prime Essence.
I don't know I actually think Sylux motivations makes sense after watching the Sylux movie thingy. He is clearly an extremely competente soldier that got fed up of the Federation's command reliance on Samus for everything, which actually costed the life of his teammates when she failed. He is bitter, angry, resentful towards the incompetence of the G.F, and his own incompetence and powerlessness to save the people he cared about, so he took it too far. And was actually successful in controlling the space pirates, and growing in power. But why attack other G.F soldiers, and not just the higher ups? I imagine he must have gone mental at some point with all the cyberpsychosis from the augmentsThe only thing I don't actually understand about the lore is what the fuck the green rain is and where it came from, nor how Sylux relates to it. Are the green crystals related to the Metroids somehow? Did we go back in time, or forwards in Tanamaar? And why are there no space pirates in Viewros?
>>727679765Sylux always was a joke villain. I am amazed they tried to turn him into the main antagonist. He had (one) game where he posed no unique threat to Samus above any of the other hunters. After that he has literally been a cameo character for over a decade.>"Ah, the game is over and--OH SHIT IS THAT ELECTRO MAN HIDING BEHIND THAT TREE?"
So how does he see out of a visor that is placed like that?
>>727659428He’s is a believer of the jungle rules. He thinks the reason why Samus is superior is because of her suit. He simply wants the pirate cannon for its power and to reverse engineered it for his own. He hates the federation because they are weak and having the power of the suit could easily kill dozens if not more federation soldiers. He firmly believes he will becomes the strongest once he had defeat Samus with his own suit power.
>>727693398>>727693690That's not how I interpreted it. It seems more like Sylux was correct they had a good opening to destroy the weaponry right there and then, but command decided it was Samus that had to do it. (She literally destroys it with a super missile). There is zero reason why focused fired by the War Golems couldn't have achieved the same effectSeems more like command fucked up, and Sylux was justified to grow bitter against themIt also creates the predence that to be taken serious in the Metroid world, you just can't afford to be some lowly ground trooper, it'd explain why Sylux became obsessed with power
>>727696446>which actually costed the life of his teammates when she failed.Go watch the 100% scan/completion version of the cutscene. Them all dying was his fault for ignoring orders.
>>727697141>Go watch the 100% scan/completion version of the cutscene. Them all dying was his fault for ignoring orders. What is it, really? Could the golems not have destroyed it right there and there if command didn't waste time waiting for Samus to land? We've seen what the war golems are capable of in game, a space pirate shockwave railgun is more difficult to destroy than the lamorn shield in Chronotower
So..... is the game just flawed or actually bad? Like is it better or worse than Prime 3?
>>727696706Ahem.
>>727659428Bondrewd may have copied his looks, but he wore them better.
>>727691624Did you change any settings? I'm getting a guaranteed crash after i cool the boiler room and Duke joins the party
>>727697346Its flawed, but not bad. Outside the desert area grind, and Mckenzie's forced help the game is actually full of amazing moments that far surpass the experiences in the previous entriesIt actually reminds me a lot of Another Metroid Remake, the fan game.Such a shame about the flaws, specially cause they are so obviously forced
I thought getting 100% items would expand the ending and show Samus going back to the planet and help GF troopers and defeat Sylux but nope, it's just to see her face and show how Sylux became a villain because he's fucking dumb as fuck. What a pathetic character and ending.I always thought other bounty hunters and the Galactic Federation were fucking lame and I've been proven right
>>727697546I'm actually playing through AM2R right now to wash the taste of Prime 4 out of my mouth. It's a lot better, even with the design flaws it has from being a metroid 2 remake.
>>727697579I agree with you on this, 100% completion should have allowed you to save the G.F soldiers. I am so tired of everyone but Samus dying at the end of every game. That's one Alien trope I could do away with.>tfw no ending where the G.F soldiers, and Samus are chilling back enjoying some Norion curry after that whole ordealJust...
>>727677112Not that anon, but the game straight up namedrops "the poison" and describes the exact same things we saw happen across the trilogy to the Metroid Prime as what happened to the first boss.
>>727697546Even if the desert and Mackenzie no longer existed the level design would still be incredibly linear.
>>727697870>I am so tired of everyone but Samus dying at the end of every game. The only games where that happens are Fusion, Dread and Prime 4.

>>727698798>Confusing space pirates with mercsAnd you're giving me shit?Admiral Dane and DA BOIS make it out okay while others die along the way. The consistent throughline is that the Galactic Federation asks for something unreasonable, doesn't get it, but Samus still gets some form of win out of it and it's good *enough* of an outcome for the Fed to be happy. That is not the same as "everyone dies!" Samus saves lives in all but a few games, and in those cases she gets some other bittersweet victory.Use your words correctly, faggot.
The Prime games were never good, just put the Metroid 6 in the bag Nintendo.
>>727697346It takes the worst aspects of Prime 3 and amps it up to eleven. Corridor level design with no paths other than the progression and a save station on the side, mostly focused on light puzzles that doesn't even get on the level of Zelda puzzles, alright bosses but usually fails to impress and has a distinct lack of mid bossesI won't touch on the NPCs and the fucking desert because i feel like they're a distraction when discussing this game, yeah they fucking suck but even if they weren't a thing this would still suck, it's just a mid FPS with really good visuals and music
>>727699042Meant hunters, oops a fucking typo.Deal with it you dumb faggot, the hunters were a focal point of the game for a fucking reason.
>>727699298>distinct lack of mid bossesThere is in general distinct lack in enemy variety.

>>727701454Yeah idk. Game's decent, better than 3 imo, but not great. The writing varies from serviceable to awful.
Without the Desert, and forced tips. This game would be the best in the series. Why is it so fucking short. I want at least 2 more areas.
>>727659428When Samus knocked him on his ass not even thirty seconds into his introduction, I knew he was going to be KING jobber.
>>727701034It'd actually make a lot of sense if the Metroid Prime was actually a lamorn mixed in with a mocktroid, and in their journey to achieve existence without requiring resources they became that creature later mutated by Phaazon, and why Dark Samus always had that third eyeI just don't really understand how the timeline would work, I wonder if the tree at the end will be the beginning of a return of another Metroid Prime, something that absorbs the essence of the memory fruit, and I do wonder if it'd wear the Sollan amulet from TokabiI am probably just schizo posting desu
>>727702556Also, thinking about this. Chatoyah literally says they sent out 12 Lamorn into the universe to find Samus, I wonder if the Metroid Prime on Tallon IV was one of them? Would that mean there's potential 11 more Lamorn out there still searching for her?
>>727660632A part of me doesn't want Sylux to have a tragic backstory, but just be an unrepentant bastard who just hates the Federation because he's an unrepentant bastard. We can even do it with exactly what we got in Prime 4, with him wanting to steal the weapon, we just need to tweak a few things. He shouldn't be a Federation Trooper, he should hate them from the start, and he was just leading a raiding party to capture the weapon, and was stopped by Samus, who wiped out his entire party while he managed to escape. He's not even mad that he lost the raiding party, he's just finally pissed off enough at Samus to extend his feud with the Federation as a whole to Samus as well because she just keeps helping them and finally made it personal when she interfered with him personally.
>>727660632Let's stick with what we were given, because there's solid bones, it just needs some meat. Firstly, this shouldn't have been the first time Sylux had a situation like this. Samus is effectively a nepo baby and the federation overrelies on her. Sylux was a commander who had watched multiple squads, if not battalions, be wiped out because he was told "wait for samus" instead of pushing when it made sense. Even when his squads do things properly, she still gets all the credit and glory, and basically spits on the sacrifices of marines. So when the g-fed try to create more soldiers like samus, he undergoes the process himself to try and prove that marines can be self-sufficient, but it drives him insane and now all he has left is his hatred for samus.

What does beating the game on Hard Mode (or 100%ing Hard Mode) unlock? I see in the gallery there is an empty square for Hard Mode completion in the cutscenes section, right next to the Credits. Seems to imply this is a post-credits cutscene for Hard Mode. Is it a teaser for a new game? Has anyone done this?
>>727669729Yes. It's slop kino.
>>727669729He needs to gather the Infinity Gems next time for true Western Sci Fi Fantasy Peak.
>>727674316Good voice but these lines are generic. I genuinely still dont get Sylux' hate boner for Samus.
>>727674316So they had to cut a fuckload of content and completely rewrite the game, right?Because this is clearly just voice lines from cut boss fights and overworld interactions.
>>727660079He's just a bountry hunter, dude.
>>727697870And in general it just feels out of character for Samus to abandon the G.F soldiers, especially when she already handled Sylux' ass a few times during this game alone.
>>727703874>>727704276>triple digit IQ>game funnels you down small corridors so you never get lostno, Dread has the same problem as Prime 4, an overly linear, overly guided game where the major new mechanic (EMMI/Sol Valley) actively makes the game worse
>>727706668>Dread>linearjust say you didnt play the game instead of making a clown out of yourself.

>>727706746please don't try to argue against dread being linear >but the sequence breaks!the sequence breaks change almost nothing because the game still forces/bottlenecks you into doing the awful EMMI zones. There is one exception to this being the early gravity suit but this hardly changes progression as well .You would think getting this suit early would blow the game open like it would with super/prime but the game is so full of boxed in moments and railroaded level design that it ends up not mattering.

>>727707291Buddy I had hunters on my flashcart the redesign is obvious.
>>727707196I am real, exploration and level design are the most important factors in metroid, things that both dread and prime 4 falter on. If something like combat was a major factor, then both Dread and Prime 4 would be considered the best but they're clearly not
>>727707376>where you get abilities off enemiesPlay Dread
>>727707778Dread doesn't do what he's describing, the abilities gained from EMMI are akin to getting abilities after boss fights from the other games
>>727707849You literally do get abilities from at least 3 Dread bosses EMMI aside.
>>727708826In some of the Castlevania games EVERY enemy drops an ability, and Bloodstained shares that mechanic. So if there’s 100 enemies there’s 100 abilities. They drop at a very low chance, so the idea is even if you’re backtracking you’re still periodically finding new abilities to play with.

>>727694552fuck that motherfucker for holding three items and forcing me to reload the desert multiple times
>>727697346Bad for the S2 premium price but fundamentally the game itself is just "flawed". It's 70% of a full game, all that dev time went to cinematics.
>>727669729He's gonna be in the movie
>>727710960Sanctuary Fortress is pretty linear. All the Prime games and their areas are very linear, 1-2 just did a better job at masking it than 3-4.Anyway yeah, Volt Forge and the Ice Lab are GOAT Prime worlds. Prime 4 Forest is very good too, just wish it was longer. Prime 4 Lava Area and Mines Area are pretty generic though.
>>7276973462 > 1 > 4 > 3 imo. The complaints about the desert are completely overblown. It's just a OOT-style Hyrule Field traversal hub zone, not meant to be a huge open world. Similar to Prime 2's hub. Completely fine.Dialog/help is an issue, but overblown too. It's annoying and the tutorializing is overdone, mainly in Forest and Volt Forge (after that it becomes fine). People forget Prime 1-3 had the exact same Hint System, just it was Samus's visor giving hints of "seismic activity in this area" directing you instead of an NPC. It was better in those games since it was an optional feature you could turn off in the settings though. But 99% of people didn't.4 has some kino world designs and great moments. Good combat and evolution of Prime 3's controls. Its biggest sin is the shitty Upgrade Set. It's Prime 1's upgrade list again except>Motorcycle (cool, but mainly for traversal in the hub)>1 new beam (Electric) >Tether Ball (Cool)>Control Shot (Cool but very situational)>Physic Morph Ball bomb (VERY situational, used like 4 times in the whole game what the fuck)>Physic Armor/Legacy Suit (Nothingburger item, just defense)The game should've started you out with shit like Space Jump, Boost Ball, Spider Ball, Grapple, Lasso, etc. as part of the default movelist. Instead of just making you go through the game and collecting the Prime 1 progression again. Power wise, It doesn't do enough new besides the bike. The physic versions of all the Prime 1 items aren't doing much new besides Tether. Also, the game is linear as shit with no intended sequence breaking (or any until people find glitches). That's disappointing. But it's a problem every other Prime suffers from (and most of the 2D games besides 1, SM, and ZM)
>>727713082>People forget Prime 1-3 had the exact same Hint System, just it was Samus's visor giving hints of "seismic activity in this area" directing you instead of an NPCThough I'm pretty sure the games waited a lot longer to give you those hints as opposed to Myles bugging you every two mintes in the desert
>>727713082>The complaints about the desert are completely overblown. It's just a OOT-style Hyrule Field traversal hub zone, not meant to be a huge open world. Similar to Prime 2's hub. Completely fine.Gotta disagree. The desert looks horrifically worse than the rest of the game, and you have to spend a lot of time in there. Just seeing it in the previews made me hesitate to buy the game because of how much worse I expected the rest of the game's quality to be. It was false advertising in the exact opposite sense of how it usually is.Not only that, it makes the worst parts of the game worse. The backtracking in already linear levels is now much more painful because the desert acts as the main throughway. Having to go back to Mackenzie for an upgrade is bad, but having to go through the desert to go to Mackenzie is so much worse. Then on top of that, the bike you need to traverse it is a gimmick system stapled on top of the game.No matter how well this game does, the people who decided on the desert should be removed from the decision making.
>>7277138701-3 waited longer to give hints (at least 1-2 did, 3 might be faster since it has the Aurora unit giving hints and a lot more "go here for action set piece" objective marker stuff). But it's still the same issue fundamentally.
>>727714236>Gotta disagree. The desert looks horrifically worse than the rest of the game, and you have to spend a lot of time in there. The backtracking in already linear levels is now much more painful because the desert acts as the main throughway. Having to go back to Mackenzie for an upgrade is bad, but having to go through the desert to go to Mackenzie is so much worse.I don't disagree, but it's a not an issue unique to 4 either. All the Prime games have this exact same type of backtracking for requisite upgrades. Prime 1 has it with Gravity Suit and Plasma. Prime 2 with Seeker Missiles and the Water Jetpack. Not justifying backtracking, I wish the progression was way more open ended. But I disagree that it's worse than the rest of the series. It would be a bigger issue if traversaling the hub world was slow, but it's fast as fuck. It takes 2 minutes to motoercycle back to the Forest Area hub>Then on top of that, the bike you need to traverse it is a gimmick system stapled on top of the game.Bike is fine. Every Prime after 1 has a gimmick. I'm happy they're trying new shit with central mechanics instead of endlessly rehashing SM/Prime 1.
Am I crazy in thinking all of the rooms feel too small and cramped?
>>727714632>Eh, I think it looks fine graphically. It has an interesting aesthetic with the alien atmosphere. You can like the aesthetic, but it is objectively a massive drop in lighting quality and art design. That is the problem. It is like stepping into another game.>backtrackingI don't have a problem with backtracking. The problem is when the levels don't appreciably interweave. It maximizes inconvenience. Especially when you know you need to come back to that same series of rooms a third or fourth time with the other upgrades you don't have.

What if instead of Prime 5 we get Prime Hunters HD first?A revised combat system to use for Prime 5, a campaign for each Bounty Hunter, possible lore sprinklings, etc?

>>727686014From what I've played it's very mediocre, and even the "normal" parts are done worse than Prime 3
>>727720908Can you at least flavor your bait?

>>727721481I mean, I get why in terms of the LORE! But it's a sign that Retro had not a lot of time to make the game. They were hiring staff throughout most of development. I still like what I got, but I hope MP5 will be better.
>>727719759It could’ve very easily been the origin of Phazon though Also it’s called Metroid Prime, makes no sense to call it that with no Phazon
>>727713082>It's just a OOT-style Hyrule Field traversal hub zone, not meant to be a huge open world. Similar to Prime 2's hub. Completely fine.First of all Hyrule Field sucks in OOT so this isn't some defense. A central hub isn't an issue, like you said it was fine in Prime 2. But when you make it huge and add fucking nothing to it that is actually a big problem, especially in a game where backtracking is frequent. Even OOT had inter-connectivity between its areas that bypassed Hyrule Field as well as having the warp songs. In Prime 4 you will be driving through that bland ass desert with no music every time you need to go back to Volt Forge (lazy name) and it's tedious as shit. And that's all made even worse with them forcing you to go back to Myles every time you get a new beam just so they can force the idea of this shitty little base camp where all your favourite characters live.It sucks and genuinely has zero redeeming features.

>ITS BAD ITS BADKeep crying btw
>>727722590>Why call it Metroid if there are no Metroids?Samus is literally a metroid anon...
>>727722802Level design wise Prime 4 is not substantially different compared to every other Prime game. They're all linear. None of the Prime games have non-glitched, intended sequence breaking. Prime 4 has a bit more action setpieces compared to 1/2, it's similar to Prime 3 in that way. That's about it, otherwise it's similar. It even has Prime 2's hub-based level design and progression.
>>727723007In the chozo meaning of the term which is "ultimate warrior" yes. But she is not part metroid anymore after dread. QR-X saw to that.
>>727722517>First of all Hyrule Field sucks in OOT so this isn't some defense. Agree. Just saying it's not meant to be a conventional open world, like the discourse was prior to launch. It's not that much bigger than Prime 2's hub. Obviously the size is bigger, but traversing end-toend takes as long as traversing Prime 2's hub end to end. It takes like 2 minutes to travel anywhere on the bike, it's not that big of a deal.>In Prime 4 you will be driving through that bland ass desert with no music every time you need to go back to Volt Forge (lazy name) and it's tedious as shit. Lack was music was fine imo. I like the ambiance, it felt a little creepy and uneasey which was probably intentional>And that's all made even worse with them forcing you to go back to Myles every time you get a new beam just so they can force the idea of this shitty little base camp where all your favourite characters live.Going back to Myles/the home base for upgrade chips was unnecessary, I agree. This isn't a problem unique to Prime 4 though. Literally every Prime game has required backtracking for requisite, cockblocking upgrades (Prime 1 Gravity Suit/Plasma, Prime 2 Seeker Missles/Water Jetpack). Not trying to defend the design, it's bad. But it's not a new issues to Prime 4, it just does it through an NPC now. The amount of tedium is the same.
So I just beat the game. Sylux's last phase was awesome but this story doesn't really make sense does it?On that last scene, where you gotta press A to teleport, has anyone not pressed anything on that section yet? I couldn't not do it, but I'd like to see if anyone attempted it yet.
So did this game explain anything about Sylux other than>he's an ex-fed squad leader>some space alien toy he wanted got blown up>he mad at Samus for some reasonwhy was he in this game?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUa_2cz5dVE
>>727722614That's not electricity. It felt like you were shooting sonar more than anything.

>>727723502>On that last scene, where you gotta press A to teleport, has anyone not pressed anything on that section yet? I couldn't not do it, but I'd like to see if anyone attempted it yet.I did. You just Gameover and restart the Sylux fight at the halfway point. Explosion sound effect and fade to black. You missed nothingI thought it was a decision between leaving or fighting and saving the gang. Got baited.
>>727723585Anon, wut?Wave beam in prime 1 is absolutely electricityIt's an alternating current

>>727723768>That's retardedIs it?Make sense of his hatred of Samus then
>>727723548His motivations are left ambiguous, I guess. He's either mad at Samus and the Feds for not saving him. And/or he's a greedy asshole who wanted the pirate tech and might be jealous of Samus's power level.I don't mind leaving some ambiguity in his story. But I would've liked if they delved more into it. Maybe they're setting him up as a perennial villain and rival, like Dark Samus, for future Prime games? If that's the case, he's already had 2 games worth of setup though. So I'm surprised they didn't just blow their load for his big showcase game with Prime 4.I don't know. It's not bad lore, but it's not mindblowing either. It's mainly told in a weird way, being locked in the gallery mode as almost a side thing. But then also integrated into the main story through those PTSD flashbacks. Flashbacks which Samus was having for...no explained reason? They seemed connected to the physic/Larmon stuff, but it's seemingly not explained.Weird stuff, but at least we got some kino rival boss fights. Sylux chads we won.
>>727723434>but traversing end-toend takes as long as traversing Prime 2's hub end to end.Prime 2's hub is still an actual level with things to find. Sol Valley is just a big empty nothing. Spaced across the entire thing it probably has the same amount of stuff as the Temple Grounds just with a bunch of empty space between them, which sucks. AND once again in Prime 2 the areas all have shortcuts to connect to each other. It is a big deal and it makes everything more tedious than it should be, the fact that you've thus far been unable to say a single nice thing about it says it all.>Lack was music was fine imo. I like the ambiance, it felt a little creepy and uneasey which was probably intentionalConsidering you can pay to win your way into having a soundtrack I would go ahead and say that it wasn't intentional. And even if it were it would still be shit. Metroid Prime used to be able to do ambience while still having actual music> it's not a new issues to Prime 4, it just does it through an NPC now. The amount of tedium is the same.In no other Prime game, or Metroid game in general, are you required to backtrack to find an item then leave and backtrack to an entirely different area to be allowed to use it, with zero shortcuts being along the way to make this less tedious. The linear level design already makes backtracking a chore, and now they're just adding an extra step (and extra 2 trips through the desert) on top of that. It is indefensible.
>>727724121I can see Sylux getting more and more pissed as his story goes on until his hatred and lust for power consume him and does him in.
>>727723694And now I finally saw the post credits."Chosen one." the story of this game is insane. Samus didn't save anyone, Sylux isn't dealt with, every gfed in that base is dead, Samus leaving the gfeds to tele away to do... Nothing of value? Seems insane and out of character. I think the idea of the fruit of memory is just holding the energy of that race, but that's hardly a "savior" as some expected Samus to be. We have 12 potential aliens out in space, but seriously what did any of this shit accomplish?Did they want DLC or something????
>>727724268The memory tree was the obvious endgame. Come on.
>>727724268It's clearly setting up a future story, we didn't even kill Sylux.
>>727724372The convocation 13 Ascians, I mean the lumarn literally gaslit the entire species to put their trust in someone who would only come way too late to do anything for any of them. What a joke. Also I got every fucking god damn green crystal on the map and didn't get the 100 green cum gallery unlocks. Jesus Christ.Am I to assume the hard mode gallery is Sylux's extra scenes?
>>727724472That's all well and good, but even fuckig Prime 1 told a concrete final story of the tallon IV chozo. This is shit writing. I hope they find someone with a semblance of story telling for the sequels, IF the sequels.
>>727724543You probably missed some green crystal in a level
>>727724472>It's clearly setting up a future storyIt's really not, did you even see the ending?
>>727724606anon, Tanabe has been the guy doing the story for all of these games.
Ok, realistically, how can this character be salvaged into a Raven Beak tier chad in Prime 5
I'm not saying Prime 4 is as bad as Other M, but it definitely does the thing where progressions is sometimes gated behind some story beat rather than an action taken by the player. The biggest example off the top of my head is the first time you visit Flare Pool. You're railroaded down the main path just so you can watch the bridge cutscene, and now on your way back the locked door suddenly unlocks and another cutscene plays with enemies, and that's where you actually needed to go to progress
>>727724846by just having him be a complete raging retard, even moreso than in 4. It'll make him endearing.
>>727724150>Spaced across the entire thing it probably has the same amount of stuff as the Temple Grounds Agreed.>just with a bunch of empty space between them, which sucks. I really don't think it matters much or makes a tedium difference when the traversal time is the same. Walking in Prime 2's hub vs. Motorcycling in Prime 4's feels like a similar amount of time to get around. Again, going end-to-end in Prime 4's desert hub, and getting anywhere you need, takes like 2-3 minutes at most. It's not a major issue or that tedium>AND once again in Prime 2 the areas all have shortcuts to connect to each other. It is a big deal and it makes everything more tedious than it should be, the fact that you've thus far been unable to say a single nice thing about it says it all.Yeah Prime 4 should've had some interconnected shortcuts. Would've made things mildly faster>Considering you can pay to win your way into having a soundtrack I would go ahead and say that it wasn't intentional. And even if it were it would still be shit. Metroid Prime used to be able to do ambience while still having actual musicThe Amiibo shit is just a jukebox of existing in-game music, not unique tracks. They probably designed Sol Valley around the ambiance sound effects and be creepy as an intentional design decision. Then they later added the Amiibo shit.Locking content behind Amiibo is dogshit though. Not going to defend the practice.>In no other Prime game, or Metroid game in general, are you required to backtrack to find an item then leave and backtrack to an entirely different area to be allowed to use it, with zero shortcuts being along the way to make this less tedious. The double backtracking, the trek back to Myles for the chips, takes like 2-3 minutes for anywhere on the map. It's not great level and progression decision, I agree. But time and tedium wise, it really doesn't matter much or isn't longer than the added length caused by Prime 1-3's backtracking.
>>727725012*Tedious*It's not great level and progression designWhat I get for phoneposting.

I dunno if anyone else felt like this but I thought it was funny whenever Myles would be amazed about the chips when they're literally just shittier versions of the beams Samus normally uses
>>727724846>He goes to a dimension, subjugated it's native inhabitants, and is now leading an army against the Federation >Lean more on the Metroid experimentation>Have him actually kill people on screen

>>727723224>But she is not part metroid anymore after dread. QR-X saw to that. No, neither Quiet Robe or an X-parasite can do anything about that. It let Samus absorb her so that the Thoha power could keep the Metroid genes under control. It is kept very ambiguous why it did it, too. The X parasite may not even be under control at that point. It does not act like a X at all, when it did before, and could have easily let her die instead. The Thoha have also shown that they can live on as spirits.

>>727660632Simply a human who stole the suit and works for the pirates for money. He wants to be seen as Samus' rival and beat her because it elevates him and makes him more important.
>>727727701That does not mean her Metroid genes are gone even if it holds true (lmao it won't). It just means Metroids are gone for good, and they are at the moment. Samus is not a Metroid anymore, she just has the genes and the power to restrict them. She actually became a Metroid in the final sequence, and now she is a human with Metroid genetics. But yeah, I take "Metroids are gone from Metroid" as seriously as I take Miyamoto saying, "Mario is done with mushrooms". He might mean it in the moment, but that will change.

>>727696049>The PAL version and every version since removed the assimilation of technology, but it couldn't remove the cutscene. It's just something it can do that doesn't really tie into anything and is never used again. Dark Samus just stays Dark Samus after that. Never even returns to Metroid Prime Essence. If it were up to me to conjure up some bs official explanation for that, it's that Metroid Prime was close to death at that point and desperate, so it latched onto the nearest living thing (Samus and her magic living suit), pulled out something that suited it as a new 'carapace'/skin, and through the power of Phazon mutation turned itself into an entirely different new lifeform that could continue surviving (Dark Samus). Which is to say, I think it's better to just chalk it up to Phazon and Power Suit magic and happy coincidence rather than try to explain that Metroid Prime always explicitly had the ability to assimilate technology.
>>727696049As PALcuck I always just took it to be Metroid Prime infecting the suit because it was made of Phazon. You don't really need much more than that. And if you had Samus's suit why would you bother assimilating with inferior technology?
