The problem with Sylux isn't just that he's the main villain now
In a vacuum, he's fine
The problem is that he's naturally gonna be compared to Dark Samus, the SA-X, and Raven Beak as a main villain and especially as a Samus counterpart
Him talking more doesn't help because him trying to smack talk while Samus gives NOTHING just makes their interactions awkward and just signals to the player Samus doesn't take him seriously
It's not just he's being compared to main threats either, there's also the rest of the Prime Hunters bounty hunters that he's gonna be compared to
Trace fans can argue that the Krikens would've been better villains
Kanden fans can argue their favorite character actually lives up to the lab experiment idea that Sylux apparently is looking less and less likely to be as.
Weavel being a space pirate that was actually disfigured by Samus makes him having a grudge against Samus more compelling by default because she explicitly wronged him whereas Sylux's (possible) grudge is based on entitlement.
There's also the big elephant in the room with Sylux
He's explicitly tied to the Galactic Federation who are arguably the least interesting pillar of Metroid's lore
They have their fans, Dane is cool, Anthony Higgs was the best part of Other M, etc but almost everything about them has been done better in other works of science fiction.
The most interesting part of the Galactic Federation IS the signs of corruption and their attempts at recreating technology lightyears better than theirs'.
Sylux can fulfill the latter but the former?
Prime doesn't like to acknowledge potential Federation corruption, that's Sakamoto's focus with his side of Metroid and after Prime 4's Feds mostly fell flat at best and are outright disliked at worst don't see how you can squeeze in Sylux lore to make him more interesting aside from a bunch of convenient scans.

Basically, the entire explanation of how Prime was created was conjecture.
There were differences in the original and PAL release of Metroid Prime's lorebook that retconned certain things, because there was inconsistency in how the phazon sealing cypher worked.
Originally, Prime could leave the cypher willingly and stole pirate tech, that's why it has your beams and missiles. This was retconned in the PAL

Either way, the developmental inconsistency shows they probably weren't thinking of Prime as metroid the Pirates brought that mutated once it got access to "The Worm", rather it was the worm itself.

Prime was in development congruently with Fusion, and the manga was being written around this time, but there is very little evidence the writing was being kept so consistent that when Sakamoto made it canon Chozo created metroids that prime was being designed around that fact (I.E, Metroids on Talon are never explained officially and might have been there based on the assumption all Chozo just.. have them)
Point is, it is possibly Retro intended Prime to be, well, Metroid Prime (First, of main importance).

Obviously, by 3, Sakamoto had long since established the narrative that Chozo made the things, so Corruption expanded upon the lore by introducing the idea that Leviathans travel through space, land on worlds and corrupt them, but not before brainwashing the strongest creature in the area and mutating it into a guardian.
Bam, there's your explanation, clearly Prime was just a guardian right? But where's the core? Well people head canoned that metroids are so strong the metroid just ate the core and became it.

So you go through Phaaz and right before Dark Samus, you realize you're in a replica of the Impact Crater and there are fossilized Metroid Primes in the walls. So it's almost like they're implying that phaaz wasn't the origin and it was infested by Primes who crashed down on the world.

So it would be reasonable to say that the MP life cycle is: Metroid gets delicious candy (Phazon), becomes a Phazon Metroid, then becomes a Hopper, which then matures into a Prime. It makes me wonder how the other stages of a Metroid's lifecycle would react to Phazon.

The tentacles might be Sylux's replacement for missiles. Whenever you hit the missile button while playing as Sylux, he spawns a tentacle like Dr. Octopus, or Solidus Snake's power suit at the end of MGS2. You can have a few different tentacle functions, but Solidus' tentacles launched missiles, so that would definitely be something they could do. Actually I think it would be cool to make Sylux play like Solidus in general, giving him a dash attack and an energy sword to Metroidify it. Yes, but I think the developers were just creating a direction not a full lifecycle. There would probably be more steps than that.
The standard Metroid "lifecycle" might only exist on SR388 and places designed to replicate its environment like the BSL. This is decently consistent with every game except for Other M (surprise), which can still be explained. Metroid II remake implies this was not part of the plan from the Chozo, which would be strange if it was built into their DNA.

This is a problem with the original Metroid Prime lore which was contradictory. Metroid Prime was both sealed in in the impact crater, but somehow was outside of the crater so that the Space Priates could run experiments on it. It absorbed their technology, which ties into it stealing Samus's suit upgrade at the end of the game. The PAL version and every version since removed the assimilation of technology, but it couldn't remove the cutscene. It's just something it can do that doesn't really tie into anything and is never used again. Dark Samus just stays Dark Samus after that. Never even returns to Metroid Prime Essence.

I don't know I actually think Sylux motivations makes sense after watching the Sylux movie thingy. He is clearly an extremely competente soldier that got fed up of the Federation's command reliance on Samus for everything, which actually costed the life of his teammates when she failed.

He is bitter, angry, resentful towards the incompetence of the G.F, and his own incompetence and powerlessness to save the people he cared about, so he took it too far. And was actually successful in controlling the space pirates, and growing in power.

But why attack other G.F soldiers, and not just the higher ups? I imagine he must have gone mental at some point with all the cyberpsychosis from the augments


The only thing I don't actually understand about the lore is what the fuck the green rain is and where it came from, nor how Sylux relates to it. Are the green crystals related to the Metroids somehow? Did we go back in time, or forwards in Tanamaar?

Admiral Dane and DA BOIS make it out okay while others die along the way. The consistent throughline is that the Galactic Federation asks for something unreasonable, doesn't get it, but Samus still gets some form of win out of it and it's good *enough* of an outcome for the Fed to be happy. That is not the same as "everyone dies!" Samus saves lives in all but a few games, and in those cases she gets some other bittersweet victory.
