I got VAC banned because I left Cheat Engine on from using it to give myself a ton of souls in Onimusha 3 and tried to play TF2. This happened more than once, so I got more than one warning and auto-banned. I got over it pretty quickly since I made a new account and Steam didn't care, and TF2 had gone F2P by that time so I didn't have to pay again for it.
My buddy got VAC'd in a game he never played kekHe signed up for a playtest with some SOCOM inspired game to help test it but never signed in to playtest. The dev got so angry that someone got a free beta key but decided they didn't care to test the game that he went in and manually VAC'd the account.Doesn't matter that he has 0 playtime in the game, Steam has no recourse for VAC and any support ticket gets ignored. His profile has a permanent VAC mark on it. I've heard that if you joined certain lobbies in MW2, everyone in the lobby would grt VAC'd and its unavoidable. So I think it doesn't really matter at this point.
