Why is Fate so popular in Japan? Is the VN really that good?
>>

They will never consider it kamige

Have no clue, it's a badly written slop

Harsh but not inaccurate.

No, there are a ton of way better VNs and way better Type-Moon works. Fate is just the one that got popular.

Its mainstream trash over there. Not even rated exceptionally high anywhere.

I'm sure they hold gripping narrative and story structure to a very high standard.

Nasu used to write plenty of those

>Mahoyo
>Kara no Kyoukai
>Tsukihime
>Melty Blood
>Fate/stay night (+ Fate/zero)

EXTRA started the decline
>>
>VN
I fucking wish, but Fate is a gacha franchise at this point.
>>
>>727667683
It's not about using his power in the wrong place. It's about using power for the wrong people, and a wrong reason.
>>
>>727666171
Most FGO players never "played" the VN and FGO is the most popular part of the franchise bar none.
>>
>>727668602
does anyone even still care about fgo?
>>
>>727668204
Sequel rankings always get inflated and it gets worse the longer a series goes on.
>>
>>727667836
>Its mainstream trash over there. Not even rated exceptionally high anywhere.
You're missing a lot of notable context.
Review the list again and filter out all the non-doujin software titles. How does the rankings look like after that?

Yeah F/SN, or TM broadly, might not have ever ranked at the top of all things. But within its sphere it absolutely stood out.
>>
It’s a 10/10 concept. The way each route builds on testing the ideals of the main character is also unparalleled in video games.

Examples of this?
>>
>>727669889
The premise of every route builds upon the ideal of heroism.
It’s the ideal as a child, the ideal vs self and then the ideal in reality.

UBW always made the most sense
>>
>>727668204
sequels always have higher ratings as long as they're decent enough to satisfy the fans because the people who don't like the previous game don't play and rate the sequels

HF makes the most sense of regular human beings. Prioritizing your friends and loved ones over perfect strangers is how humans operate.
However UBW is ultimate what fulfils Shirou on a personal level, because he cannot operate like a regular human being. Rin even says there's a high chance he'll develop his reality marble again after HF, which means he'll return to seigi no mikata mindset before long.

Should i play the remastered or the original one?
>>
>>727671776
The remake. Half The h-scenes in the original aren’t good to read through.
>>

>Half The h-scenes in the original aren’t good to read through.
And? You don't even need to "read through" them per, even though they are there.
What they are replaced with in realta nua makes even less sense. The idea of removement of sex in Sakura's route is outright retarded.
The only good addition in the remastered version is the flowchart
>>
>>727672742
Oh in that case if they removed the sex from Heavens Feel then it’s not worth it. That’s the crux of the whole route.

Then again the worms are pretty stupid. What were they replaced with

The original VN was high quality in terms of production for the medium at the time and is just a universally cool concept. Heroic spirits from the past and modern mages fight in big battles in a death game. Fate or not, that concept is pretty appealing for multiple reasons. But then it was pretty well written and maintained mystery. The heroic spirits identities being revealed gradually is an interesting hook, for example. Type Moon had also proven themselves in that audience with Tsukihime as well so people were willing to get in on the ground floor with Fate.

The VN stands up today as still pretty good and their works since (Tsukihime Remake, Witch on the Holy Night) are still some of the best in the VN medium in terms of production quality while retaining the urban magic fantasy appeal too.

It's also an easy concept to expand essentially indefinitely because a significant portion of its characters are based on history, mythology and existing fiction and so there is an effectively infinite pool of "potential" to explore in side stories and alternate timeline stories. So they did exactly that and it led to a multimedia franchise that, in terms of execution (character crossovers especially) is comparable to how comics tend to treat their stuff. Everything is semi-connected. Lore mentioned 20 years ago might suddenly become relevant (eg ORT who was concept material for the longest time actually becoming a major boss fight in Fate/Grand Order). In that sense, >>727666390 is fairly accurate. FGO is basically an Avengers of Type Moon.

Is the new translation worth reading if you read mirror moon before? It was a decade ago but I feel like I remember most of the story beats so I worry it'd be boring.

I think that's the all ages version.
