Is he an actually good video game designer?
>>727674709Every time I watch one of his videos, I struggle to remember any sort of point being made. He's just way too vague about everything, and doesn't explain himself very well.
>>727674709Not at all. He just took credit from the actual devs. Cunt contributed to 1 good game. If he didn't suck dick as well as he does he'd have been long forgotten from the industry.
nah he's a bit crusty
>>727674709nyo
>>727674709Games Tim Cain made that were good: Fallout 1Games Tim Cain worked on that were good: VtM:BloodlinesIt's not nothing, I guess.
>>727675518>zoombot does not mention arcanumopinion discared
>>727675576>gnomes are jewish allegories and they commit rape+genocide to protect their wealthUnfathomably based but not being able to blow the whistle was shit game design. Must've been when the jews infected him with homosexuality.
>>727675368I genuinely do not understand what he was getting at, why are there triangles when there are just 2 options for each?
>>727674709The last thing he made was Outer Worlds which was so unbelievably bland Obsidian actually hired him back.
>>727674709Almost every single game he worked on has flopped. He is a good teacher. I love his videos. Working for him would be hellish, though. Also he's a typical boomer. He started working in vidya industry as soon as he turned 16. Being a programmer who wantwd to waste his career or games was piss easy in the 80s. There was no competition. He could have been anything, yet he chose to be a video game developer in the days when games didn't make money.
>>727674709I would say so. Arcanum and Bloodlines are top ten games for me, Fallout is definitely in my top fifty somewhere too.
>>727675746>but not being able to blow the whistle was shit game designthat's the best part. If it were that easy, it wouldn't be a good allegory for jewery
>>727676417Nah, Hitler was a thing, and so was expelling them from over 190 nations. If youre going to go for it, go all out, dont pussy out halfway through, which cain did.
>>727675368What is the difference between good and ok?How much worse is yucky compared to good?
>>727676624cain didnt write that questline althoughbeit. And it was a sequel hook.
He provided a great target for everyone else around him to call a faggot on the 'good' games he made, apparently.
>>727674709he runs ASMR channel, i dont think he is able to make good games anymore
He is way past his prime. All good artists create their masterpieces when they are young and then nosedive as time goes on.
>>727674709He looks like a faggot grandpa who is into scat
>>727674709is that... limmy?
>>727677402Don't compare the king of Glasgow to this Californian hack.
>>727676792What did cain write?
>>727674709every time I watch his videos I just start imagining him sucking cocks and then I feel disgusted and turn off the video
>>727677785I don't think he wrote anything for Arcanum, he was one of the world scenario inventors though, if that makes sense. Like he did the initial concept with the other Troika guys and then Chad Moore fleshed out.Cain wrote dialogue for Temple and by his own admission it wasn't very good.
>>727674709litertally whomst
>>727675518He had no involvement in bloodlines game dev, he only owned the company
>>727678056He actually did work on Bloodlines for the last six months of development, doing some programming work on the bosses. The sheriff boss fight at the end was programmed entirely by him.
>>727678056he did some work when he was done with temple of elemental evil to finish the game up. IIRC he did the rooftop boss.
>>727677105>All good artists create their masterpieces when they are young and then nosedive as time goes on.Well... Tolkien was mid 40s when he started writing LOTR and almost 60 when he finished it.
>>727675518>Games Tim Cain made that were good: Fallout 1The only thing he really did of note on Fallout 1 is wroting an initial implementation of a novel RPG system into a crude game engine. Basically all of that code was tossed out and redone over time by developers with more experience, and his system was ripped out and piecemeal replaced with what would become the SPECIAL system eventually by more senior game systems designers.Lore-wise, he wanted a basic sword-and-board game. The actual post-nuclear setting and all the lore that goes wtih it, how it informs the game design, etc. are also not his but were the product of others on the dev team.Tim Cain has basically ZERO authentic credential to talk about the creative aspects of Fallout in any capacity whatsoever.
>>727675812he wants to make a non numerical rpg system. he is aware he hasnt been able to implement one and it would probably be a disaster. but if you look at modern skill trees you get the idea. a system conveyed with shapes and directions.
>>727678382I'd argue Troika succeeded at this in Bloodlines. Yes, technically it is an entirely numerical system. But the pips on the character sheet and the "best of 10" system distill the best parts of a traditional roleplaying system into a simplified shell, without really losing anything.
>>727678247the difference is that tolkien was a victorian man and thus received a wholesome classical education in english and the artsnobody is classically educated anymore outside of music which is why we have seen such a horrible degradation in skills across the arts
>>727678635True. I guess one could also make the argument that the ones who peak young are the ones with a lot of natural talent - easily making them complacent with age- whereas people like Tolkien made it happen with hard work and patience, which people are just to comfortable and spoiled to be capable of nowadays.
>>727678635I'm genuinely terrified of what zoomers will create in the future and what they're doing to consider "artful".
>>727679353imagine how bad it will be post AI revolution, right now nobody is hiring or teaching juniors, apprenticeships is dead, in 15 years when all seniors retire there will be nobody to take over after them.
>>727679353I mean, we're pretty much already at that point. Women love to brag about how they are more into literature than men, but look at what they actually read: it's all porn in novel form, wrapped in the most generic fantasy/vampire/sci-fi story (featuring two love interests) that you can imagine. And this isn't just something butthurt men say as a defense, there are intelligent women out there talking about this problem as well.picrel; this strip is made by a woman
>>727678635Ah yes, the masters of old falacy. There are still a lot of classically educated people in arts. It is just not the mainstream anymore. Nobody is going to pay an artist to pain a painting over 3 months for a commercial product. Its a niche, its still around, but it has been replaced by artists who can provide the product that is in demand. If you want classically trained artists, you can still hire them.
Tim Cain be like>IM GAY DUDE I SUCK DICKS MY GUY
>>727680017Hi Tim, it's us, everyone.
>>727679989>you can still hire themas long there's still people to replace them when they die out, because every single one of those classical style painters are all really aged people that paint to make supplement for their retirement money, younger generations are all doing digital arts for commission and they only do it because they are either students or jobless, those that have a job don't do comissions anymore
>>727680616>classical style painters are all really aged peopleWhat? https://www.artrenewal.org/atelier/search There you go. Is it popular? No, because its a long and difficult education with limited opportunities. But its alive and well. Blame the cost of living. You can't really be a starving artist anymore, where you could live for months on thee shillings and twopence. Now, if you want to actually have a roof above your head, and live on ramen, you already need a full time job. So no wonder there are not a lot of people willing to put years into training a skill to be destitute.
>>727675368Posting the hypothetical scenario over and over without understanding what he was talking about only because you need to find something to get offended by will always be amusing to me.
yes
>>727674709He's good in that he's a powerful example of a '90s RPG nerd. These people are good as gold. He's not good in that I'd expect him to be the driving force of anything new and good.
>>727674709Always thought it was pretty bold of him to share industry secrets. Don't you think he might face repercussions one day like Bruce Lee did?
>>727682085The game industry isn't like the film industry, and he's a retired old man. There's nothing they can do to punish him.His stories aren't even that damning to be honest, the most surprising thing to hear was the fact that Brian Fargo was both Fallout's largest champion but also a terrible boss. If it weren't for Brian making a huge mess of things, we could have had a Fallout 2 with the Troika staff members.
>>727674709His former boss from the 90's is better.
>>727674709/our/fag
>>727678635Still doesn't change the fact that he was old when his masterpiece came about
>>727677929He wrote the newspaper articles.
