the whole reason these games are so revered has little to do with their gameplay or level design or whatever, even though those are solid enough. theyre remembered for their SOVL factor of making little emotional moments that stick with the player forever. that and the fact they are great from start to finish with little to no padding and perfect pacing. really hard thing to pull off

FFVII is what made me fall in love with videogames and will always be the #1 game of all time in my heart and soulhowever, objectively speaking, VIII is better. more rushed and flawed than VII but far more ambitious and beautiful.
