This is like, Urban Plague tops. I'm going to assume that this takes place on 'Earth' since if the universes were actually merged, my characters wouldn't have to do shit and the setting itself already makes Light a chump. Given that my character is an amnesiac with an unknown name (and no head so the Shinigami eyes would not work as per the rules Misa explains in volume 4) he is functionally immune to the Deathnote and can resurrect his team from death as often as necessary. A good number of them use aliases as well. Tracking Light would be simple enough if we assume that Faust (a character with near total knowledge thanks to a connection to infinite other Fausts from infinite parallel universes) was able to use her abilities. If not it would be more challenging but there are a couple of L tier super geniuses in the group so I still think it would only be a matter of time.

He could definitely kill Kira once he knows it's Light, the only thing that can stop him at that point is Misa somehow seeing through his disguise with her eyes, but even then that requires her to be with Light and on alert at all times (which is a huge ask for someone like her) AND Spy has to be disguised as someone she knows the name/time of death of to recognise he's near.
Figuring out Kira's identity is much harder, Spy is a hitman, not a detective. He could probably find a way of meeting L and getting info that way by disguising as Mogi or Ide, and then follow up on the suspicion of Light with his own investigation.

I think it would take a while, but he could do it. Getting proof would be tough, but if all he has to do is confirm Light is Kira then make the kill, he wins. Light has no real defence against someone who can wear any face and turn invisible.
Things become much more complicated however if Ryuk points him out, as I assume he'd still be able to see an invisible Spy.

If Simmons dies, then Agent would be stuck looping until he figures out who discovered everyone's names. If Agent is not considered a normal person, then he would simply use his endgame powers to time-travel back to when Shinigami King is considering handing out Death Notes, and then immediately force him to reincarnate into a less evil consciousness.

So whether or not Yakumo succeeds really comes down to whether or not there’s any plausible reason to believe that going on a rampage tour of the spirit realm until you got information would be useful. The cause of death is irrelevant. Every death note kill leaves zero traces and evidence behind.

The only thing he would achieve going for "coincidences" is getting a few more weeks of headstart before people realize what is going on.

If anything, this would make Light weaker. Because by creating the illusion that Kira only kills through heart attacks, Light was able to stealthily kill people through accidents without making it obvious that Kira was responsible for it. The FBI incident is a great example of Light exploiting this.

If there really no vidya characters who can pull the mad stunts of publicly taunting Kira, getting killed, counter-killing Light with an automatic counter ability, and then resurrecting for good measure? I know that most counter-abilities work for physical attacks not spells, but some on-death effects do work with anything?

The only real limit to this stratagem is the possibility that a counter-ability destroys the Death Note without killing Kira, considering the book to be the "spell caster". But the way I see it, Light should generally count as a wizard wielding a grimoire. The grimoire just happens to be busted.

Agreed, Death Note is one of the worse offender when it comes to "smart people are wizards" type of writing. There are always huge elephants in the room that are left not addressed because WE, the readers, have a reason to think they don't matter, but the characters inside the story have no reason to think that way, they just magically conjure the truth with their smart-people-are-wizards magic. For example the plot involves memory modification, but that aspect of the story is extremely specific to the intricate mechanics of Death Note ownership. We know how it works but L doesn't. He openly theorizes that he thinks Light used to be Kira, stopped being it, and had their memories modified to obfuscate traces. HOW do they not come to the exact conclusion you just said, that the gods of deaths are just fucking with humanity? As the readers WE know that the gods of deaths don't individually point at people and rewrite their memories, but from THEIR perspective it is a very, very real possibility that changes everything. It just never comes up. When L died for seemingly no reason and Rem vanished, the number 1 theory should have been that everyone's memories just got modified to obfuscate the killer and keep the game going, because even L thought it's what happened with Light.

The PT's have access to police records through Makoto and Akechi, they could use that to determine the time of deaths for each murder and come to the same conclusion L does and realize Kira is a student, which they relay to the police force. When Light changes his strategy because of this and the PT's realize Kira also has access to police data, they then look into which officers have access to the Kira case and if they have any school aged relatives. Then just go through the list of names in the meta-nav until they get a hit.
