Low resolution is not the same thing as having soul.
What happens is that artists try to polish the visuals for the target resolution, especially on consoles where the experience is so limited that the sucker consumer cannot even choose the resolution, in most cases.
So sometimes, raising the resolution too much causes the visuals to deviate greatly from the original intention. In some games, you even start to notice graphical glitches that were masked by the lack of resolution.
Other games will always be ugly no matter what resolution you use (99% of the N64 library, for example, the most disgusting Nintendo console ever released when it comes to graphics).

Why am I writing this? I don't know. I'm leaving, fuck it.

Use CRT shaders or buy a CRT.
