It's Paper Mario for people who pre-judge games based on visuals.

wow okay so I played this so-called “gaem” Clair Obscur or whatever its caled, and honestly I dont even know what the devs were doing becaus nothing makes sense AT ALL. The storie starts somewhere??? idk i blinked and sudenly everybody was talkin about some lady painting doom or something, but the game never explain ANYTHING, it just shoves sparkly particles in your face like thats suppose to make it deep.

The fiteing is even worse. You press buttons and stuff happns maybe? Half the time I was mashing keys and the charcter just stood there breathing loudly like they forgot their lines. And the dodging??? bro I swear the dodge works only on tuesdays when the moon is smilin. Enemy attacks look cool I guess but when you get hit it feels like a wet noodle slapped you and then you die anyway.

Graphix are fine, like good I guess, but whats the point of pretty things when EVERYTHING ELSE is hot garbage soup? Cutscenes stuttered so bad my screen looked like it had stage fright. Also the menus??? who desgined those?? I clicked “options” and the game basically said “no.”

Music was ok but after 5 minutes it was just looping the same sad violin like it was begging me to stop playing. I would if the pause menu didnt take 47 years to load. And dont even get me started on the bugs—at one point my character fell thru the floor and I thought “wow, finally, freedom.”

In conclusion, Clair Obscure Expidition 33 is a confusion sandwich dipped in lag sauce and sprinkled with regret. I want my hours back but the game probly glitched them away too.

Score: 1/10

pros:
it's pretty sometimes and the music is good
the jump puzzles were fun

cons:
vapid gameplay filled with trivialized RPG battles and walking takes up most runtime
plot that ends with genocide apologia

This game helped me get the courage to come out as transgender to my parents.
A lot of the story is actually a symbolism for oppression of trans and gay people if you actually dig deep, though I wouldn't understand people who have not suffered to get it.

The game is a fantasy RPG on the surface, yes, but Expedition 33 is an allegory for transition and authenticity. It tells the story of a character (Maelle) who must reject a comfortable but false identity to embrace a painful but real one (Alicia), mirroring the queer journey of coming out and living predominantly as one's true self.

10/10

Not everything revolves around trans and gay people, give it a rest, stop projecting. While it's ok the game gave you the courage to share this with your family and I hope they accepted it, stop seeing LGBTQ+ undertones in everything,, this type of reasoning only serves to make us LGBTQ people seem desperate and crazy.

jesus
I'm bisexual myself, the thought that this game even remotely had anything to do with that stuff didn't even cross my mind and that's ok

I love the game too, but damn, stop projecting.

Didn't one of the jannies on that site have a meltdown and start banning people over negative-neutral Silksong reviews?

Just finished Clair Obscure and I’m honestly disappointed at how little critical discussion there is around the game’s racial and gender framing. It’s wild watching people praise the “art direction” without acknowledging how consistently the game relies on the same old visual hierarchies — lighter, conventionally attractive characters positioned as relatable or heroic, while darker or more “foreign-coded” designs get relegated to antagonistic or morally ambiguous roles. This isn’t some niche academic point; it’s a pattern the industry has been critiqued for over a decade, and seeing it repeated here without anyone even mentioning it is honestly disheartening. And the gender writing? Nobody wants to say it, but the game really does fall back on the most familiar dynamic imaginable: male protagonist with depth, agency, and inner conflict, paired with female characters whose primary narrative function is to emotionally support, motivate, or soften him. Packaging the women as “complex” doesn’t change the fact that their arcs revolve around reinforcing his. It’s subtle enough that people will hand-wave it, which is exactly why it needs to be called out instead of ignored under the excuse of “it’s just the style.” I’m not saying the game can’t be enjoyed, but pretending these choices don’t matter is how the medium stagnates. You can appreciate the visuals and music while still acknowledging that the story leans heavily on outdated representational habits it refuses to interrogate. 7/10 — impressive presentation, but the unexamined racial and gender coding drags the narrative down far more than people seem willing to admit.
