>>727682935I dropped the game around the release of Amy after having played it consistently and going to locals, only because Reversal Edge, movement-based counter hits, and the new throw break system kept me from really enjoying the game long term. Three of the worst mechanics in SC6.

It's funny because SC2 had it right since the beginning.A light-RPG mode were you explore stuff and build a character, just like the solo mode of SFVI.They just have to do it again, and expand on this idea and it would be perfect.
>>7276830191 or 7Also, why no Amy?

This is only barely on-topic but seeing Setsuka made me think of it. Why does it seem like fighting with a parasol/umbrella is such a cliche eastern martial arts gimmick, but it literally only appears in like 4 video games and nowhere else in any media or history? For some reason it seems like "fighting with decorative umbrella" would be one of those meme fighting styles like fighting with fans that has some actual basis in nip history or folklore, but no. It was just plucked out of thin air for video games on like 4 separate occasions and has no actual martial arts basis whatsoever.
>>727683019Give me 1
>>727683864You sure. It doesn't seem that much more of a stretch than a sword hidden inside a walking stick or cane. I'm sure several people IRL have used an umbrella to fight of assailants.
>>727684024I'm not suggesting it's impossible, just that it doesn't seem like there's any pretext. You have Setsuka using it as basically an elaborate scabbard, but it's also a type of greatsword in MonHun, it's a kind of shield/spear combo in Wild Hearts, it's used as a large shield in Sekiro, recently in NG4 it's the weapon of the Kitsune Courtesan. It feels like oh, okay, that's just one of those marginally nerdier kung-fu weapons like fans, kusarigama, meteor hammer, etc., and that's why it turns up so often, but no. There are no formal disciplines, styles or katas for umbrella, there's no famous historical context for umbrellas being used in a fight (no Benkei-oar type legend to make reference to), no famous piece of film or other media that made the use of the traditional umbrella iconic as a weapon. It seems to turn up all the time in video games as though it's just an obvious thing to reach for when you want a less-obvious weapon (we already have swords, spears, hammers, nunchucks, what else can we implement?) but I have no idea where it comes from. It's an idea that seems to have materialized fully-formed in the span of a generation of games for no reason. It's just interesting to me.

>>727684356Samurai Shodown has one character using an umbrille since the third entry. Wouldn't be surprised if it's taken from Rurouni Kenshin, since the later games seem to take some inspiration from that series. I'm not surprised there are no formal styles using umbrella as a weapon (even though some other mundane objects do have their own): it's obviously an improvised weapon used when you have to – and may hide an actual blade. That said, I wouldn't be too surprised if it's more of a '90s or '80s invention/anachronism into the samurai genre.
>>727684835>Samurai Shodown has one character using an umbrille since the third entryThere's another example for you. Also Yagyu in Senran Kagura. There are loads of them, umbrella-fighting is, not to say ubiquitous, but definitely more common than it ought to be in video games. It'd be like if all of a sudden, out of nowhere, every fourth FPS title had the rebar crossbow from HL2. I get it when one game has the idea, but how are all of you coming up with this idea at more or less the same time? Or did you all just copy each other? And if so, why did nobody comment on it; we'd all notice if some other FPS game added the rebar crossbow, we'd go "oh, a Half-Life 2 reference", but fighting with an Edo-period parasol we just take for granted as one of those things that are done from time to time.>Wouldn't be surprised if it's taken from Rurouni KenshinMaybe, but is that one scene really so iconic? I mean Jet Li fights with a firehose in a movie and it's cool but you don't see a dozen video games having characters that main a fire hose in a fight yes I realize it's just repurposed rope dart techniques. In Rurouni Kenshin it's basically an improvised weapon bit, it isn't ACTUALLY but it's treated that way (making up uses for the item on the spot, just not as a survival tactic), but it isn't treated as an improvised weapon in most games, it's like, deliberate kit.
