If I've never played a castlevania game before, which should I buy, the Dominus collection or the Anniversary collection?

Why buy? Supporting Konami is not going to give you anything

Anniversary because the classics are better. Also when you play III play the Japanese version.

there are two different genres of Castlevania. there's the classic series from the NES days that's just a hard as balls action platformer. then there's the open world RPG version that takes after Metroid that started with Symphony of the Night and that's what the DS games are like. so pick your poison. personally i've always found the SOTN-like games more fun because you can set your own challenge level, if you can't beat a boss you can just grind until the numbers are in your favor or eschew leveling entirely and play the game more like a classic Castlevania title.
