It absolutely nails this unique, I dunno, utilitarian atmosphere. Big Shell has this effortless industrial charm to it, the kind you can’t quite put into words. They probably didn't even think about it, but there's a particular allure in that industrial aesthetic: the exposed beams, steel frameworks, weathered surfaces and the vast expanses between them. The muted grey-blue and rusty-orange tones give everything a sense of melancholy. The whole place feels very grand and quiet as you're running up there, above the world, surrounded by the wind, open skies, and the hum of machinery. The great soundscape amplifies the feeling of solitude, too.So basically I really like it, it's been 75 years and nothing else has quite captured this vibe again for me.
I agree completely, something special about the atmosphere of MGS2. Nothing like it.
>>727700476Why did they paint the entire big shell structure orange?
>>727700756
>>727700756why didn't they paint it blue?
>>727700476I agree. Beautiful art design, very clean and symmetrical look to it, the color palette always stuck with me. The game looks timeless
>>727700756So ships can see it, daftarse.
>want to replay MGS2 >sees this no thanks
>>727701356Yeah. They don't make em like this anymore.
I still have dreams about this game sometimes even though it's been two decades since the last time I played it
>mgs2 was 75 years agowhere has the time gone?
>>727702278We didn't know how good we had it.
>>727700476Really beautiful game. Artistically better than a lot of modern games with "superior graphics".
>>727701496>an achievement which wasn't as still isn't an integral part of the game prevents me from replaying the gamewhy are you retarded

the kids call it liminal
>>727706571too high-detail to be liminal
>>727700476Such an amazing game, easy top 5 for me. Everyone rightfully talks about the colonel's speeches but I will always remember opening the map and seeing that all of Arsenal Gear's areas are named after parts of the digestive system
>>727701496>he cares about retro achievementsngmi
>>727700756it contrasts with the blue water
>>727700476Raiden killed the vibe of the game so hard

BIG
>>727700476It does create an interesting parallel with the simulation. Big Shell looks like an oil platform, but it's supposed to clean the oil. That's not how they do it in real life. It's also implausibly big. The player takes both of these things at face value, however, as a consequence of that they also make the decision for Raiden to take it at face value. This creates a double simulation, where the player becomes complicit in Raiden's deception. Raiden couldn't have known it was a simulation, but the player does. The player knows this is a video game about fighting vampire and rollerskate terrorists. Who cares if building a giant offshore platform to clean oil is absurd? However, since the player blindly accepts the story as an experience in which they have no control, they are manipulated in exactly the same way as Raiden despite knowing subconsciously that the Big Shell doesn't make sense. But we have control, and we lead Raiden right into the trap.

>>727700476>They probably didn't even think about itThey clearly didThe aesthetic is really greatIt's deliberately vibrant and unrealistic, probably to contrast shadow moses, and then compare with the muted metallic colours of arsenal gear later

>>727708331People who read too much into MGS2 are so funny
>>727718238this is surface level obvious stuff, brainlet
>>727700476And it’s still the weakest location. The tanker and especially Arsenal are on a different level.
>>727718396The purpose of any game is to tell a story. You take everything in the game at face value because that's what NPCs do, you're being lead by them, not vice versa. Saying stuff like "the players control Raiden so they decides what Raiden believes is real or not" is a top tier of huffing Kojima's farts

>>727700476Ugly ass piss filters and low res textures? Glad we moved on from that. It's hilarious that the MGS remaster thing flopped so hard. These shitty games aged horrendously and are only propped up buy old ass millennials.
