1 mogs it so hard...
>>727703089yep
>>727703089correct
>>727703089Nah
>>727703089Based
>>727703089In terms of Gameplay yes.
>>727703089I played HL2 first and I think it's so far superior to the first game I think people are trolling when they say the opposite.
>>727703089>>727704180They both had ups and downs. The main bad thing about the first is that it didn't cause curiosity as much as the second. Also the graphics
half life 1 is the only good thing Valve ever made. everything else was either a dev team they bought(counter strike, team fortress, left 4 dead, portal, day of defeat), bad(HL2, episodes, HL:A), flat out evil(child gambling, dark patterned f2p), or reddit(portal1/2, tf2, hl:a)like most of the fun memories people have associated with HL2 is just people messing around on Gmod building stuff, playing darkRP and Trouble in Terrorist Town. HL2 the game itself sucked. yeah the gravity gun was cool. great, but literally *everything* about HL1 was cool. HL2 writing sucked, setting sucked, atmosphere was ok. gameplay sucked other than the gravity gun being a novel thing at the time.this is the reality, and it's why HL3 will invariably be horrible.
It's a pretty different sequel and not in a good way. Less interesting weapons and setting. The story is an huge downgrade, with fourth wall breaks and retcons. The worst part is that it sets up a sequel that thus far hasn't come out. Half-Life 1 could have ended the HL story and it would have been satisfactory. Sure, people wanted more HL, but it didn't have huge loose ends like HL2 had.
>>727704180I played HL2 first and still think HL1 is better. I just like the vibe of being stuck in an underground lab as opposed to the more open world of HL2.
2 has more fun-to-fun segments than 1
>>727703089I couldn't put down HL1, I take big breaks from HL2
>>727703089Nah, the endless train tunnels section was god awful and ruined the game.
>>727703089>falling down more than 2 meters gives you like a third of your health in fall damage>movement feels floaty>enemies that take two magazines to kill teleport behind and in front of you every 50 meters in some later chapters>enemies that take one magazines to kill have hitscan weapons and spam grenades at you like it's CoD on Veteran>garbage graphics doesn't get redeemed by awesome artstyle, unlike some other old games>garbage sound design is irredeemable>segments that overstay their welcome (trains)>segments that aren't fleshed out as they should be (Xen)Half-Life 1 was actualy dogshit, Half-Life 2, which was good, feels much closer to Blue Shift and Opposing Force, which were infinitely better designed and more polished than the base game. And Black Mesa (Source) just shits on the original Half-Life (in a good way) at every turn, its level design, artstyle, balance, everything is far superior to the original game.Feel free to disagree. Everyone has their right to be retarded, after all.
>>727703089Wrong
>>727705883>Feel free to disagree. Everyone has their right to be retarded, after all.i can see that
>>7277030891 did everything better, black mesa is the only interesting setting half life gotle eastern yurop aesthetic sucks coc
>>727705058>Less interesting weaponsBrother, they have almost the exact same weapons, and most weapons unique to Half-Life 1 suck ass. Only the Tau cannon is of any use (and the laser mines as a mobilty tool). The AR2 alone mogs all the other uniqe HL1 weapons combined, and the Gravity gun mogs ALL HL1 weapons
>>727706873Gluon Gun was nice, and so was the Hornet Gun. And the Snarks.
>>727706873your opinions are ass
>>727703089absolutely. only old fags whe were there for the source engine hype videos before release know what a fucking disappointment hl2 release was
>>727703089Nope. Source engine looks and feels amazing, and 2 has better art direction. It also has physics which automatically makes it a far better game to actually play.
>727708180bait
>>727703089Opposing Force mogs both unfortunately
>>727708265OF is a half life 1 expansion pack
>>727705883>Everyone has their right to be retarded, after all.Agree
>>727708432did I stutter?
>>727707561Gluon is great for tough enemies like grunts, but runs outta ammo too fast. Tau moggs it because of the mobility it provides. Hive Hand has too low dps, and Snarks are only useful when they can't kill you too, so limited use cases. The AR2 on the other hand melts enemies, has an instakill alt, and plentiful ammo when its actually needed (when fighting combines), so I'm pretty comfortable in saying that it's better than all those 3 weapons combined + throw in the satchel charge
>>727708464OF is HL1
HL1 had better soldier combat. Fighting the headcrab enemies was more fun in HL2 thanks to the Gravity Gun.
>>727705883(You)
>>727708265Its bloated mess with dogshit level design Randy>>727703089The quintessential "do i fit in yet?" contrarian opinion
>>7277030891 was vastly uninteresting to me as a setting. Brown desert and drab sciency underground bunker labs didn’t stimulate my neurons that much. Xen was cool though. 2 is like a really fun apocalyptic road trip across eastern europe that is a lot more varied in its environs and has more unique gameplay moments. I’d take the boat or car over the rail in 1 any day of the week.
B-but HL2 has seesaws and gravity!!
I think HL1 was pretty amazing for the time, but it aged poorly, Black Mesa is a hell of a remake and fixes the boring parts of HL1
>>727708589>ketchup is a hamburger
>>727710023not valid
>>727705883Sounds like someone has a bad case of the gitguds.
>>727703089*Opposing Force
>>727708518It is more versatile and arguably more powerful, for sure, but at the end of the day, it is a basic bitch rifle with a grenade launcher. The mentioned weapons in HL1 were more unique, and if there is one thing missing from Half-Life 2, it is more unique guns. No, literally, missing. It was going to have them. Immolator (sort of a flamethrower), Combine Guardian cannon (Strider warp cannon basically), Hopwire grenade...
>/v/ has now entered levels of contrarianism we thought impossibleWhat a time to be alive
>>727703089I prefer replaying Half Life 1 because it feels less bogged down by scripted sequences, but Half Life 2 developed the lore and world of Half Life so much and made it 100x more interesting
>>727714664
I play both because I'm not an autist.
>>727703089funny you mention this i was just playing half life 1 and it's so shit, the physics if any are atrocious, grenades go wherever the fuck they want, bullets are imaginary, soldiers are unfair and unkillable, if anything DOOM 1 (1993) mogs both, but half life 1 harder
>>727705883this is what i mean >>727715964, thank you
>>727703089last 2/3rds of hl2 > hl1 > first 1/3rd of hl2.idk the game just feels like a really long tutorial up until after the airboat section.
>>727704180you are graphics brained. its okay. sometimes people are extremely low iq and they can't enjoy games with old graphics. often women are like that.
>>727713932I'd rather have less guns but each one fulfilling a role, then dozens of guns half of which suck ass or are useful once or twice. It's bloat, and at some point in development you need to learn to cut the fat. For example the immolator, what would be its purpose? There already is a short range weapon, the shotgun. The Gravity gun has so much utility that you can run most of the game with it alone. You can use it for mobility (gravity jumping), mobile cover, to take down every enemy up to an AntGuard, redirect grenades and energy balls... It is more versatile than any other weapon in both games. If there was any weapon that would make sense being added to HL2, it would be something like the Tau Cannon (there is no other high-damage, slow-firing and accurate hitscan gun)
>>727703089I like both
what is the physics behind this resonance cascade?shine a laser into a crystal and spacetime fabric cracks or something? can that happen irl?
>>727718119>can that happen irl?I wouldn't worry about it
She didn't like 2 and I trust her opinion
>>727703089Remember when pewdiepie said "omg they remade black mesa" completely exposing himself?
>>727718119Pulp sci-fi rule: make it a crystal and it'll be able to do anything the plot needs it to.
>>727720454Only streamer I know of exposing himself was that ishowspeed guy.
>>727703089I enjoy replaying 2 more than 1. Also playing on CRT monitor feels exactly how it felt when the game came out. Still great looking game.
>>727704180Both are great but HL2 airboat and buggy sections really bog the game down, the controls are awful and are way too long, HL1 train section is also a slog but not nearly as annoying.
ok so im just a tourist passing through /v/, don't really consider myself a gamer any more and i am not familiar with your board or anything so forgive me for finding you guys on the front page buti am very surprised to see some of the opinions here. like >>727704532 is trying to be edgy or something? jfc... anyway....I hold Half Life 1 in such high regards, that opening scene still pulls me in. One of my favorite games of all time, no doubt but I think HL2 was superior in all categories, even the ones that don't matter like graphics. The Source engine mogs. The physics mog. The story mogs. "Pick up that can" - literally no iconic moment like that from HL1. Alyx mogs my cock. Another totally whackjob opinion >>727705058. Bruh, HL1 had MORE interesting guns?! The gravity gun and pistol alone are better than all the HL1 shit combined. Ravenholm was (for me at the time) graphic, wild I was seeing this shit. Scary. The gravity gun and ability to employ physics mogs HL1.like talking to some of you ITT seems like a massive waste of breath given that *literally every category* mogs HL1. It's not even subjective. I'm never coming back to this shitboard.
>>727703089hl2 was never a game, it's just a source engine tech demo
>>727703089I always hated half life 2. I lost friends online and irl for that opinion(Yes I hung out with literal autists and proto-redditors back then). I'm glad more people are realizing the truth that half life 2 is a mediocre game and valve is evil
>>727725085delulu>>727725297you guys are insaneis this board schizo or just trying hard as fuck to not have a regular opinion?
>>727703089I played Black Mesa does that count
>>727724768Leave and take your shitty moviegame with you.
They are both great games, and everything that spawned from them. 2 was mindblowing when it came out.
I love the vehicle sections vnironically
>>727728041I would often play the boat level
>>727727105You played a worse, slower version of the original? Why?
>>727727184don't know, and don't care what you're talking about. I'm here, and there's nothing your twink ass can do about it.
>>727728041They made a visual novel of the vehicle sections?
>>727728127based, rape everyone who's wrong
>>7277030892 mogged Gaylo and made Gaylo fags seethe
>>727703089Never even finished 2.
HL2 feels more like a tech demo than a game
>>727728283You'd be lucky to get a competent 15 hour single player fps campaign these days
cool research facility > shitty repetitive city in ruins
>>727728228Halo was the seed of new ways to do games, the beginning of an idea of a game that had AI driving the enemies to tell an emergent story. Then the US game market just put it on the hamburger and ate it and fuck the future, let's copy everything wrong with halo.
>>727728458based hallway enjoyer
>>727716634>For example the immolator, what would be its purpose?Area denial, set up barricades of fire. Or just design the game around it, as many HL2 beta inspired mods do, make it a CQC weapon accessible before the shotgun, and buff the shotgun so it isn't a melee weapon. Ideally, the Immolator would be the REALLY close range, constant DPS gun while the shotgun would be a close to mid range burst damage gun.
>>727718119Spacetime is affected by gravity. Gravity spreads in waves at the speed of light.>insert magic crystal bullshittery hereShine laser into crystal, crystal tears a new asshole into spacetime, because light and waves and gravity and shit.
