Prime 4 Beyond was a mistake, sure, but if Metroid Other M didn't kill 2D Metroid, there is still hope for you that the Prime games won't kill the 3D FPS style of Metroid.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is not a mistake.

I hope Prime 4 does kill the Prime games. 2D was always better anyway.

who gives a shit if SINtendo doesn't make 3D metroid games anymore? Fan devs are more skilled than ever and can/will make a Prime 5 that's better than 1
>>
>>727703965
Maybe easy to say for the 2D games (which still haven't been beat just yet), but it might be a big toucher for indies and smaller studios to match the Prime games. Or rather, match Prime 1-3.

>Metroid Other M didn't kill 2D Metroid
but it did kill a chance at 3D third person metroid games. 2D metroid is going to die too, not because of any one game but because mercurysteam is collapsing and it took them a decade to find a studio to make 2D metroid (sakamoto will retire before then).
>>
>>727703664
>but if Metroid Other M didn't kill 2D Metroid
It did for the next 7 years.
>>
>>727703664
I hope it does, Prime shouldn't have gotten any more games after Prime 3, hell, it should have been a one-time thing.
>>
>>727706395
>but it did kill a chance at 3D third person metroid games
the biggest tragedy here. The movement and shooting in Other M (aside from aiming missiles) felt the most like Super in 3D. Absolute tragedy we'll never see nintendo expand on this in an actually well designed metroid game.
Prime games are ok for what they are, but they're not the run and gun platformers the classics were.

>it took them a decade to find a studio to make 2D metroid

like there aren't 20 different developers at any given moment nipping at Nintendo's heels to make an (x) game
>>
>>727706395
2D Metroid is exhausted anyway, if history says anything. I like all of them, but the series has retread itself over and over. They could change that, but they won't.
>>
>>727703664
Here’s the thing, this was third strike for Prime… they’re out!
>>
>>727710927
>he says this when Prime has repeated the same gameplay since 2002 and just slaps a new one-time gimmick in its games with Prime 4 being the worst of them all
I'm glad the Prime series will finally die.

Let me tell you, this whole drama is a tempest in a teapot.

The Metroid franchise will continue, Prime 4 will probably get Dread level sales numbers and Prime 5 will get made.

We'll eventually get another 2D game.

Life goes on.

What gets me is people who have never touched a Metroid game suddenly think they are entitled to have an opinion.
>>
>>727711482
Nope, only 2D Metroid will survive this, Prime 4 was shit and the Prime series was never big, it was astroturfed. I want 2D Metroid games, I do not want Prime games that can't push 2002 forward and keeps shoving crappy gimmicks on top of that. If they're not going to get series with the Prime series and instead turn it into another generic AAA slop, please do us all a favor and kill it. Prime series has been an embarrassment for too long.
>>
>>727711659
Nigger, 2D metroids can't even move past 1994, people still talk about how the best game was 30 years ago
>>
>>727703965
>Fan devs are more skilled than ever and can/will make a Prime 5 that's better than 1
Then why hasn’t any one of those ‘skilled’ fan devs made one yet? They’ve had 18 years between entries to make an attempt at it after all.
>>
>>727710927
So brave and true. 2D Metroid has been done to death, and absolutely nobody wants to play Super Metroid again but with new bosses, music, and a new map to explore. Nobody cares about those things. Nintendo needs to modernize the formula and add in more NPCs, voiced cutscenes, a big top-down overworld full of collectables you can explore.
>>
>>727711807
How can a franchise evolve when people scream about if the new game isn't a constant remake of the game they played 30 years ago?
>>
>>727711807
2D Metroid has evolved since 1987, Prime is literally stuck in 2002 and instead of evolving and expanding that, it keeps slapping in dumb dated gimmicks now mixed in with shitty modern AAA trends because Retro wanted to become AAA so badly. Prime fucking sucks and the Prime series has always sucked. I honestly wish Prime 4 got canceled and didn't come back.

You have no idea what I'd do for them to just remake Other M and iron out the wrinkles or do some kind of spiritual successor. I absolutely agree with you that this felt the most like Super in 3D than we've ever had in Metroid before and likely ever will.
>>
>>727703664
Other M wasn't a 2D Metroid.
>>
>>727711482
Happens all the time. Just last year this exact same scenario played out with Dragon Quest 3.
>>
>>727712369
You'd have a point if more than half the series weren't remakes or derivative. Dread's not even all that great despite Nintendo having had 20 years.

Super Metroid is one of my favorite games, and even it is a near-remake of the first game.
>>
>>727714989
Keep coping, Prime faggot
>>
>>727715345
I prefer the 2D games to Prime. I found Prime 1 boring and have never played the sequels at all.

What did you think of Other M?
>>
>>727715550
Are you me?
>>
>>727715829
Not a fan for the usual reasons. Nintendo don't have an inspired direction for Metroid, so the good/decent stuff is almost always the same old shit and the distinguishing features are terrible. Other M is a lot of the latter. Zero Mission perfectly embodies my irritation with the series, even though I think it's a great game.
>>
>>727703867
Metroid: Beyond It's Prime
>>
>>727712865
Yes it was. Other M is a side scroller.
That's all people mean when they call it a 2D metroid.
>>
The only way to save themselves is to port metroid prime hunters from the ds to the switch with really accurate Gyro Aiming.

Afterwards, they can use that same accurate precision Gyro technology to bring all the Trauma Center to the Switch.

The first move should be to reboot Feel the Magic:XY/XX then announce Metroid Prime Hunters Switch edition to reignite the feeling that the ancient ones had on christmas morning with their DSs on launch.

tortanic posting coupled with console warring just makes for new releases to be impossible to discuss regardless of quality. Now I do think Prime 4 ranges from shit to mediocre, but I wanna bitch about that with my Metroid bros not a bunch of faggots who've never played it

What triggered people about DQ3? The character creator? The warrior having spats now?
