Do you recommend games to friends?
I don't and here's why:
>friends start complaining that "there's no games to play. Games are dead."
>I tell them there are still some good games coming out and there's tons of classics they haven't played
>"Bullshit. Show us those 'classics' of yours then."
>I create a bespoke list of games I know they would like and go through it one by one with them
>They manage to find an excuse to shoot down each one of my recommendations
>"We told you games are dead, anon."
Pic related. After they refused to try even a single game from this list, I completely changed my attitude regarding recommending games after I realized they have permanent shit taste.
Now, whenever they start complaining that "games are dead, there's no games to play," I just agree with them.
>>
where do you think you are?
>>
pretty nice list actually op
>>
>>727704061
it's a VERY SAFE list and yet my friends refused to try even a single game from it
I felt crushed
>>
>>727704346
thinking about starting the boktai series any suggestions
>>
>>727703825
furi is like the only good newer game on your list
ac7 is ok too
but normalfags aren't playing games for the sake of the game
they wanna share it, discuss it, etc.
if it has no cultural relevance, they aren't going to spend their time on it.
your classics are mostly good but it really depends on the person. I know a lot of people that it would be pointless to recommend Catherine or Kingdom hearts or God hand to them. Pearls before swine, basically. Kind of like giving someone Rainworld, the average normalfag is going to hate that game.
I would suggest not caring about the opinions of normalfags.
They are fake and gay

>thinking about starting the boktai series any suggestions
Emulate 1 and use cheats to modify the sun meter at will but try to be fair.
I don't expect you to be outside in the sun like 10 year old me was when playing it for the first time, but at least try to regulate the meter so it matches reality and not crank it up to 100% all the time
If you have a steam deck you could actually try to play outside
>>
>>727704596
>but normalfags aren't playing games for the sake of the game

>if it has no cultural relevance, they aren't going to spend their time on it
This x1000. Normalfags just want something they can talk about on social media for likes. When they see modern releases aren't attracting as many people, that gives them less they can do this with.
>>
>>727704596
The worst part is, they're not even so much normalfags as they're full-on gaming doomers.
The second you mention needing a gamepad or (heaven forbid) emulating something, they throw a complete tantrum.
They also fall hook, line, and sinker for those endless time-sink traps like PUBG, Battlefield 6, Counter-Strike, and Dota 2.
I've literally had to beg and plead with them for them to try Monster Hunter, Terraria and Dark Souls with me, I had to swear on my mother's life that the time playing those games was gonna be worth it and after they saw how pathetic I was getting, they gave the games a chance, and once they finally did, those games ended up as some of their all-time favorites and they compare every new game to those 3
Nowadays I don't have the energy to beg them to play games anymore
>>
>>727704346
I wouldn't consider grimgirmoire, air tonelico 2 and SRW alpha safe picks
>>
>>727703825
Extremely tryhard list. You deserved to be put in your place for mother 3 alone
>>
>>727706409
I mean, for my friends those 3 should be very safe picks.
>Ar Tonelico
They love JRPGs with dating mechanics, "top tier waifus" and Akiko Shikata.
>Grimgrimoire
They loved Unicorn Overlord's beautiful visuals and narrative, they used to like real time strategy with some management like AoE 2 and Rimworld but they grew bored of the usual formula, and also they love manga with fantasy witch settings like Witch Hat Atelier
>SRW alpha
They love mecha anime, nuff said.

I didn't create this list in a vacuum, retard. I tailored it specifically for my friends' tastes.
>>
>>727703825
I don't have friends.
Have you tried forcing them via debt? Like making them lose a bet to strong-arm them into playing them.
>>
>>727707434
I did that in the past >>727705565
With bets, I remember dragging them into playing Killing Floor, Chivalry, Deep Rock Galactic, Risk of Rain, L4D2, Civilization, Magicka, and also some MMOs like Dragon Nest, Ragnarok, Vindictus, and MapleStory 2.
They loved every second of each of these games, and they're also some of their favorites. But nowadays, I just don't have the energy to beg them for 5 hours straight and make dozens of elevator pitches to get them to play games.
>>
>>727703825
Some of them, assuming I have a good handle on what sorts of games they enjoy. I stopped bothering with one person because he constantly contradicts himself regarding his own stated preferences, and dismisses games for bizarre, random reasons.
>I don't see much point in playing games that don't have a strong storyline, that's the big thing I care about. Now what do you say we play some Counterstrike?
>Platformers just seem too childish to enjoy. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to replay a Pokemon game.
>Man, X-COM is a lot of fun. Jagged Alliance? That doesn't have aliens in it, why would I play that?

I have the opposite problem. How do I get friends to stop recommending games to me?
>have taste similar to OP
>friends keep recommending me early access asset flip survival crafting games and roguelites
I don't even like those genres, bro. Why can't you take the hint after the 30th game of that type you recommended me and I didn't buy?
>>
>>727703825
yes I do but only after they say what kind of stuff they like or i know the person well enough to recommend a game. I might follow up later to see if he got to it eventually.
Just because my friend asked me for a suggestion, doesnt mean he must play the game i recommend.
>>
>>727708004
That sucks. I have to wonder, though. Does that friend just have some other reason to not like the games, and is using those bad reasons because he thinks they're not going to hurt your feelings for some reason? My brother did that to me once.

You recommended a bunch of those games to someone that almost exclusively plays shooting games. You just threw a bunch of games out there without regards to their taste. Out of your whole list, only Max Payne could possibly be up their alley.

Either way I've recommended games to friends and they've played them and liked them, maybe stop hanging around doomers.
>>
>>727703825
Is "your friends", by chance, /v/?
>>
>>727708593
>>You recommended a bunch of those games to someone that almost exclusively plays shooting games
I forgot to explain those are just the coop games I dragged them into playing with me.
When it comes to single player games, the games I posted in the OP are right up my friends alleys.
Some examples here >>727706939
>>
>>727708772
Not really, it's a bunch of guys I met at a cyber cafe 15 years ago and we hang out online and play games together since then
>>
I recommended Baba is You to my normalfag coworkers once
They liked it
>>
ill talk about games im playing and even gift games on steam or whatever but i dont expect anyone to play them or get mad about it

it's almost like... they just wanted to bitch and gossip about something and bring you into their misery porn even when they see someone putting actual effort into his passion/hobby (maybe that's even getting the mad or a little jelly), just like people do here on 4chan
you would think that eventually people will get tired of seething and getting mad at shit games they will never play and just do something else with their time or play something they like but nope, here they are replying to a dogshit demoralization culture war thread (that was reposted for the last week with the same op post and image) such as
>gaming has fallen
>industry collapse in two more weeks
>why X game is bad and why you should care *photo of an eceleb*
>twitter controversies
and so on it all just repeats with every major AAA release, man does it get tiresome
people will say shit like "gaming is dead" and then you check their PSN/steam and it's dogshit multiplayer games or scrolling tiktok and watching twitch

anyway I'm usually the one that gets vidya/movies/literature recommendation and it's always welcome and appreciated, as a matter of fact if you have friends that are into things that you know nothing about it's even better because they surely as hell won't pick something that on their opinion you won't like, this is also how I discoverd some of the all time best things I enjoy

you are a good friend and good friends should never be taken for granted

I'll sometimes throw some stuff out but I'm aware it's leading a horse to water. It can be a little tricky innately because some games are on consoles they don't have, or are pretty niche in of themselves. I like playing touhou, and I know that none of my friends are going to sit down to play a shmup.
I'm also self aware enough to realize that I rarely check out things they tell me to as well so no harm no foul. Same concept applies to movies and anime and what not.
>>
>>727703825
>Do you recommend games to friends?
Random people? No. Friends? Yes. I can gauge whether or not a friend might be interested in something. If I recommend it, he'll at least try it.
>>
>>727703825

>>727703825

Sorry that your friends have shit takes OP. But I'm curious about what were their excuses for the games in the list. Particularly Disgaea and MGS3

>>
>>727703825
you've got mostly shit taste. the first row has some kino in it but the rest is meme trash or just regular trash. just as an example Viewtiful Joe is 100% just style over substance garbage for it's genre.
>>
>>727703825
I stopped a while ago when I realized these conversations just ended in me playing what they recommended (popular live service games or big name indies), and almost never the other way around.

Mega Man Zero and Battle Network mentioned, very nice. also how did you assemble that grid?
>>
>>727703825
Your friends are stupid.
That said, I'm not sure I would recommend Viewtiful Joe or Godhand to people because of their learning curves. There are some games where the player has to actually want to play it, and if I was just checking games like those out as a formality because a friend said I should I'd probably get filtered by the helicopter and not listen to any of your recommendations again.
>>
>>727713035
In terms of gameplay it's your typical TRPG like FF tactics and Tactics Ogre but with a real time strategy element to it, what the game really shines in is its plot and characters
The way the story plays out really reminds me of stuff written by Yoshiki Tanaka (LOGH and Arslan) but scaled-down to fantasy kingdoms with confederations. It's high-fantasy political intrigue, kingdoms in conflict, rebellions, etc...
If you like 90s fantasy war OVAs like Record of Lodoss War, Arslan and LOGH you're gonna love Growlanser.
>>
>>727713731
It's not a 3x3 for my tastes, retard. That list is meant for my friend's tastes.

>>
>>727714007
>Viewtiful Joe
They love Kamen Raider, beat'em ups, W101 and DMC. This is a no-brainer, really.
>Godhand
They love beat'em ups 3rd person brawlers like Urban Reign, corny humor and DMC.
They would love God Hand.
>>

You have great taste, anon. Don't doubt it. Your coworkers are just retarded faggots.
>>

Then they should have no problem playing ZoE2. If they have VR, even better, MVRS is an amazing experience in first-person VR. Also, recommend them (and I'm recommending you) SuperHot.
>>
>>727716036
The worst thing is that they're not even my coworkers (I would never dare recommend a game to my coworkers), but lifelong friends I met at a cyber cafe 15 years ago and have been gaming with for many years.
>>
>>727703825
no, they mostly play slop

Hardly anyone is capable of matching me when it comes to playing new games. There's a few posters on this website who can do it, though.
>>
I used to but I kinda stopped trying to get them into games. One of my friends doesn't like stepping out of his comfort zone and it became too much effort to try and get him to play something new. The most I'll do nowadays is ask them if they ever thought about playing the game or whatever
>>
I usually don't, but mostly because we each have our unique tastes that don't often overlap too often. What's great for you might end up being average for someone else, and that sort of disappointment is usually what happened back when we recommended games to each other.
>>
>>727716870
That's like 10x more games than I played this year.
I wish I had your motivation.
>>
I'm guessing they're the type that will play what's popular.
