Why pirate, when you can simply get a library card?
>>
>>727706424
no PC section

well i dont know anon, truly a mystery
>>

because i'm not homeless?
>>
>>727706424
My 6 year old gets to pick 1 game and 5 books for bedtime booktime every time we go. He loves it.

I like to see which games people are checking out.
>>
i rented the incredible machine when i was a kid in the 90s. the library only ever had gay boring educational games, like a spanish speaker's version of how to speak french (CD 2 of 3 [the other 2 were deported])
>>
>>727706424
all of that ubislop needs to be pulled and burned in a pile as propaganda
>>

is that mavis beacon typing for kids?!
>>
>>727706424
Mine doesn’t have a videogame section
>>
>>727706424
Mine's currently having a book sale. No vidya there though. At least this time.
>>727707008
I just checked out Black Myth Wukong on the PS5.
>>
only high trust areas have video games at the public library. "enriched" cities don't.
>>
>>727706853
well where i live there atleast used to be a small subscription to use the libraries.
but I havent been in library in over 15 years so things mightve change.
>>
>>727707779
if it works here in swedistan then you got no excuse
>>
>>727707779
The games aren't in the case until you check it out at the desk. Mine also has a limit of two games out at a time per person.

A number of them checked out

I also noticed my library network only barely goes back to 7th gen games. It doesn't seem like anything too valuable gets listed. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is available but not Platinum. Hope no one swaps with a fake game.
>>
>>727708010
This is pretty universal. I live in a small city in the quietest neighborhood and the games are still behind the counter like when I lived in a much bigger city
>>
That's crazy. I could just go check out Elden Ring for PS4. I think I might, I don't want to pay for it. It's the next town over but I'm sure they'd let me make a card.
I didn't think of that.
>>
>>727706424
>Your local library has games
no they don't
>>
>>727706737
>grandpacore

but memes aside, I remember that some anons complained about switch 2 physical games were not actually physical, will libraries be able to handle them?
>>
>>727706737
I really should go to the library again.

Game key cards are fine. They got Raidou Remastered, Bravely Default HD, etc.
>>
>>727708046
Mine's pretty similar, I've seen Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games there. No handheld games though (unless you count Switch and Switch 2 as handhelds), but surprisingly I've seen Rhythm Heaven Fever there a couple of times. Last time I checked that's pretty expensive.
>>
>>727708478
Well most switch 1 games require a download and install when you put the chip in, and my library has those. It's just left to you to purge those installs as you go for space management.
>>
>>727708478
While library staff are often clueless retarded boomers, actual librarians are even more autistic than 4channers. They know all the ins and outs of digital media, digital rights bullshit, and how to lend out and handle digital items. They fought for a LONG time to be able to "lend" out ebooks.

Might as well go. It gets you to go outside after all.

If you haven't been in one in a decade, you might find that distinct library smell nostalgic as soon as you walk in. It was for me.
>>
>>727709006
Imagine the favela's library
>>
>>727706424
my local library has tons of movies on dvd (that all look like they were fed to a dog) but no vidya
luckily the librarian in charge of the children's section is based as heck and got them to stock a bunch of ttrpg books
we play games every week
>>
Our local government is constantly trying to close the library, it's pretty fucking annoying since every time ballots go out we have to affirm to these chucklefucks that yes, the general public is ok spending our taxes on this service.
>>
>>727706424
because it's 2020+5 and computers don't have dvd drive no more.
>>
>>727706424
I haven't visited a library for about 23 years, I think. If I want a book, I buy it.

You can get an external drive for cheap.
>>
>>727710894
It's kinda crazy how some governments want to cut legit stuff like that as if a library is somehow worse than some of the shit they waste taxes on. I'm not gonna pretend I go to the library, but they are a very important place for any community. Not just a place getting books for entertainment, but constant and real place for published facts and media that can't be rewritten on a whim.
>>
>>727710894
Same anon, it's so obnoxious. They keep framing the library as a place that indoctrinates children so it needs to be closed down. Luckily the general population isn't as stupid as these politicians think they are. Imagine claiming the library is the cause of societal decline when every kid has unrestricted phone and social media access.
>>
>>727706424
>go to library
>get game, install it on pc
>return it
This is just piracy with extra steps. It is only based because it is piracy. it is cringe because instead of going to a torrent, you have to go to the library.
>>
>>727711658
Here they say it's a place for hobos to hang around during the day, so people don't want to go there. And it's like how about we fix the homeless problem first instead of just constantly shutting down wherever they go?
>>
>>727706737
I wonder how often stuff like this actually gets checked out, only for people to go home and wonder why a game for Windows 3.1 or macOS 9 cannot run on their new computers.
>>
>>727707008
I recently went to go get a library card again and I had to sign a huge disclaimer stating "What you check out is logged and these logs are shared with federal and state governments. They will know what you read, and you might get put on a watchlist depending on what you check out."
Its fucking ridiculous how little privacy libraries provide these days.

The fuck? What state?
I thought the national library association fought super hard against that shit.
>>
>>727711352
So does mine and even when I did my first build in 2008 I barely used it.
>>
>>727711813
It is so frustrating that I get punished because my city doesn't want to put actual resources into helping homeless people.
Park benches removed, hostile infrastructure, public spaces having restrictive hours so I don't even have a place to chill after work, etc.
>>727712171
That's crazy. I can't even see a list of previous books I checked out on my account because they don't save any information.
>>
>>727712570

>>
I haven't been to my local library in like a decade, I wonder if they do have a game section now. Piracy is effortless, I'd just be hogging someone else's time with a copy.
>>
>>727706424
because everyone that works at the libraries is a woke liberal just waiting for the chance to push their ideas on the public.

I appreciate the success of the switch, because its success allowed a lot of indie games to get physical releases. A drop in the bucket maybe, but still.

Access to the library was so important for me growing up. I read so much manga and borrowed so many movies. Reminder that on humble bundle in the settings, you can choose your own charity and select local libraries in it. It'll only affect certain bundles that let you set your own charity or store purchases.

You have to make a conscious decision to build or get a PC that has a disk drive nowadays so I think people who have them at least know how to use them.
