Also there was a Kirby game I played that was so easy I turned my brain off and suddenly a boss just wiped the floor with me. Doubt I even knew the controls properly, because it wasn't needed until 5 levels in or something.

That picture is literally Kingdom Hearts 2, but fans of the game often only remember the difficult part and forget how easy the majority of the game is.
>>
99% RPGs have the most retarded difficulty curves. The game starts with none of your toolkit. Then you get levels, stats, gear, abilities and everything gets easier and easier over time. Games are supposed to get harder.
MMOs are bad for this. The solution to every problem is time.

I feel it’s a natural consequence of having a game where levelling up makes you automatically stronger, and thus you can just level grind until you can one shot everything. Games that have level scaling try to resolve this issue by keeping the difficulty a bit more consistent throughout the game, but a lot of RPGfags bitch about level scaling because they can’t just grind their way to victory and have to actually strategise to win.
>>
>>727708914

Every single modern MMORPG is like this.

the part that should arguably be the most fun (Exploring the open world, levelling up etc..) is the most boring braindead shit, literal faceroll toddler tier difficulty, whereas the difficulty suddenly spikes when you just run the same boring endgame instanced content, fighting a single boss on a circular floating platform in blank space on normal, heroic, mega mythic mode difficulties which are autistically hard.

Yes, i am seething, this used to be my favorite genre and its irrevocabily fucked.

True, but good design can make doing this harder for players, meaning that they have to actually engage with the game’s core systems rather than just spending an hour farming enemies until they’re overlevelled.

Yakuza - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's Sujimon Sidequest has a difficulty curve like this.
Second last boss fight for the quest line has you fighting dudes that are like level 11, and then the next mission has you fighting dudes that are level 35 without any warning.
I had to just give up on doing the final Sujimon mission until later cause the 3 enemies I need to fight to finish the mission are like 15 levels higher than anything else I've seen in the game so far, and there's really no way to cheese the fight either since all three enemies spam high damage AOE attacks that will wipe your entire party before you even get a turn.

Basically every fighting game, every time you learn enough new shit to hit a new peak as a player, you start to get good enough to notice even more shit you didn't realize was important, and you start to notice how bad you are at things you thought you were pretty good at

You could play the same fighting game for 3000 hours, get to the top 0.5% of the playerbase, and STILL think to yourself "god I'm fucking dogshit at this game man, why am I so fucking bad?"

While the last 2 big monsters from world are very difficult compared to the rest of the cast, the game still has some monsters that act like a barrier to spike up the difficulty and you can feel how monsters start to be a threat slowly, Wilds doesn't have that, you bash you head against the monsters until they start one-shotting you at 9 star difficulty

THIS IS YOUR FAVORITE GAME! Most games do this
>Easy during the tutorial / starting area
>Difficulty quickly ramps up after that because you have nothing, you're low level with low HP and low damage so stuff is going to kill you. Especially if you try to take on difficult challenges early on.
>But as you acquire levels / new abilities / new party members / MORE STUFF, the difficulty plummets
You'll call this your favorite game because you get a sense of satisfaction as you got more powerful and overcame the early game. You enjoyed the comfortable flow state of everything becoming routine and easy. That's like every Bethesda game in a nutshell, Fallout, Skyrim, you name it. Countless other games do the exact same thing and by the end the game it's stupidly easy.

My favorite games start out hard and get progressively harder towards the end, although it feels like it's getting easier because you're progressively better at the game. This feeling of personal growth and mastery is a lot more satisfying than artificially making it easier by making your character(s) get stronger in the game.

I needed to make some example and that was one off the top of my head. I really do get the impression that most games follow that curve and it's what people will love about games.
