Just finished the demo, it's like a comfy King's Field knockoff.
>>
So far every single King's Field inspired game I've tried has completely missed the point.
How is this one any better?
>>
>>727711027
Depends what you thought the point of King's Field was I guess? I like the atmosphere and the level design has that Fromsoft-when-they-were-good thing going on, at least in the small area in the demo.
>>
>>727710908
I tried it this morning, it wasn't too bad but there were way too many enemies for how small the areas were and how simple the combat is.
>>
>look at my whacky FILTER and FECES SMEAR(S), aren't I heckin retro, fellow Xisters?
wake me when troons realize just because they're not going for realism doesn't mean their stylized game shouldn't look crisp.
>>
is the game out?
why would i play a demo if i can't buy the game
>>
>>727711027
It's more like Metroid Prime than King's Field.
>>
>>727710908
It feels very pajeet-coded.
Like the NPC's all have pajeet-esc faces, and the general vibes are those of an Indian made product. Dialogue felt sorta ESL.
It was kinda underwhelming, and the fucking trailer at the end was like half stuff you see or interact with in the demo itself.

I've enjoyed both Lunacid and Verho
>>
whats with the myriad of indie "kings field like" games that came up recently? no one played that game, not even the people making these now
>>
these niggas need to stop putting out a games after figuring out how to get the AI to spit out basic weapon swings. where's the rest of the combat, nigga?
>>

It is easy to get overwhelmed, especially when you're busy fighting those ratbug things and there's mosquitos flying about and eyeballs firing lasers at you from miles away at the same time, but it becomes more manageable once you start collecting one of each weapon type and learn what weapon is for what enemy. I cheesed the centipede thing by running around his little tower flinging throwing knives at him to get the spear, but you're probably supposed to come back for that once you've got the club, or just grab the spear and run.
>>727712950
This is my major worry, the demo feels like you're just scratching the surface of something massive while you play it, but I suspect the whole game isn't actually very big.
>>
>>727713138
Lunacid was successful and they're a relatively easy game type to make while still being decent quality
>>
>>727712336
>>727713009
Yeah, this needs to fuck off. It works in very rare cases like Cultic, (and I turned all the gimmicks effects off while playing that as best as I could) but like, just make an art style that works within the limits of what you're trying to do, you can take inspiration from how old games feel to play without just slapping on meme filters.

Say sike right now

Slow methodical combat, King's Field IV has perfect combat in my opinion. Labyrinthine maze levels with weapons and armor to find, gear degradation, limited access to healing, poison gas areas that are a huge pain in the ass to explore. Just a few off the top of my head.
>>
>Developing a mouselook "King's Field"
Fundamentally different design philosophy.
>>
kings field clones are trans coded
>>
>>727712450
Because sometimes a good demo is better than a bad full release, anon. And honestly, these weird low-budget King's Field-alikes live or die by first impressions. If the dev can get the vibe even half right, that's already a massive W in this drought of interesting dungeon crawlers. Worst case, it's 30min of janky retrocore jank that lets you moonwalk off a cliff while dying to a slime. Best case, it's the next Lunacid.
>>
>>727714823
Why? They were fun.
>>
>>727713085
I dropped lunacid in the sewer level, gave it an honest shot but it was so barebones. Pronoun shit in the character screen should have been a red flag enough for me. How is Verho?

i do wish for more interesting dungeon crawlers. i played labyrinth of refrain for the first time recently and it has really opened up a love of the genre for me.

It kinda has that to start with, but your weapon skill levels up so quickly that it doesn't last, although mebbe it's a bit better paced in the full game. You start out by having to dance with enemies getting well timed jabs in without losing half your health but by the end of the demo you're steamrolling through everything. But then it is just the starting area, although I died to early mobs a bunch but then beat the boss at the end in one try.
>>
>>727715460
Enjoyable, but you can't go as fast as Lunacid.
>>
>>727711027
That would be because they've been made by Dark Souls fans who can't make an actual Dark Souls game (too mechanically complex)
So they ape a related series to try and draw the shared target demographic.
>>
>>727715708
Honestly I'll take Souls-likes that look like King's Field over rollslop that look like Dark Souls any day.
>>
>>727713085
>troonacid
>>
>>727715665
That is one of my main problems with King's Field is that the game gets far too easy too quickly. Developers really need to learn that difficulty is the reason to play games, and that getting stronger really should be reserved for new game+ at the earliest.
>>
>>727716838
I'm an adult, I don't have enough time to care about shit like that. It let me go fast and spam coffins as a spell so I had fun.

so it's shit then.
>>
>>727717117
Ah well from what I can tell from the demo they've nailed that then, kek. I hope it's just because it's the starting area and a demo and the actual game takes a bit longer to master each new area/type of enemy but once you've got the spear for the chicken things, the knives for the eyeball plants and the club for the skellies the difficulty completely evaporates.
>>
>>727710908
I got to the first dungeon, played 30 minutes. Overall it's pretty good, used the club for a bit and enjoyed my time. Will probably play more tomorrow. Is it possible to block in this game and save the two guys at the camp if I don't open the door?
>>
Is it even possible to make a game like KF with mouselook?
>>
>>727718134
If you're in the first dungeon you've basically finished the demo minus a very easy boss fight. I don't think there's a block mechanic but there might be a shield in the full game, your offhand seems to be for throwing weapons only though. I doubt there's a way to save the soldiers because everything you do is necessary to progress.
>>
>>727711196
Fromsoft games pre Demons Souls are all poorly rated and made games.
>>
>>727712692
I hope you mean Metroid Prime 1/2 and not 3/4. I mean Kings Field (well technically 2) had a ton of interconnected shit you'd find in early Metroid Prime games.
