The game eventually concedes that the only way to challenge the player and your custom mechs is to flood the board with enemies that will often get lots of cheap hits on you, so unless you can kill a target in a turn or less have fun dealing with 2-3 full lances of mechs or vehicles. I love the game, but the hardest mission in it isn't even in the main campaign, it's a loyalty mission for the Mariks that starts simply, then you have to beeline it to the evac while several heavy/assault lances drop on top of you while you're rushing to leave. It's obnoxious, and the game to this day still has that memory leak issue that slows the game down significantly in the menus after a couple hours of play.
