What should the inevitable Chrono Trigger remake look and play like

No less than 3 different and separated parties own the rights to Chrono Trigger. Gachas have been demanding a CT collab for years and none, not even Squeenix's, have gotten it. They get DQ, they get Secret of Mana & SD3, they get so many others, but never the #1 most requested CT collab. The rights issue is why.If you want some "We have Chrono Trigger at home", look up "Another Eden" on Steam/mobile stores. It's literally made by one third of the CT team and the story very closely resembles CT's story, and there's even a Frogman Knight. Very fun, highly recommend.
If it absolutely must be 3D, this is the only style I'd acceptIt's basically the only nice 3D adaptation of Toriyama's style that isn't a locked camera like FighterZ
Cel-shaded with limited animation like Dragonball FighterZ / Guilty Gear Strive.

It should be 2D that looks like a cartoon, I don't particularly care what technique they use to achieve it, I think the best would be the one using 3D models and use whatever ASW is doing to look like 2D like in Guilty Gear or their DBZ game. They should greatly expand on it, pack it full of fun time travel shenanigan sidequests where your actions affect the future on top of the already existing ones. It has the potential to be kino.Anyway they probably would have already done a remake if they could but as another anon says, most likely the legal situation is not clear and nobody thinks it's worth the headache to touch it.

Please not HD2D.The original Chrono Trigger is perfect as is, but if it has to be remade, it needs to be 3D and take full advantage of the 3D medium instead of being a lazy direct 1:1 remake but in 3D.Chrono Trigger pushed the SNES to its limits, so any remake it has should at least take full advantage of its hardware.
