Maybe this franchise just isn't very good
>>
theres only been like two good games in the whole series. and even those are kind of overrated. this is always been a very flawed series, one that is more potential than actually good. people keep hoping for some amazing metroid game and it never happens
>>
>>727734310
There is no reason to play this series now. Indie games evolved the Metroidvania formula well beyond what Metroid ever could. Just let it die.

You can admit Metroid Prime 4 sucks AND Metroid is one of the greatest video game franchises ever. There's no contradiction. Get a grip, lads.
>>
Super Junkoid, now that was a good game.
>>
>>727734310
wrong, it just can't reach its full potential because the devs are retarded

I have been thinking this recently and honestly its kind of true.
You could buy a 12-15 hour mediocre AAA metroidvania for $80, or you could buy a 35-40 hour indie one which was well received for $20.
Games like silksong and nine sols have pushed the genre forward, and now in an ironic twist its the genre forefathers, metroid and castlevania, that have been left behind.
There is no world I could honestly recommend MP4 to anyone in a post silksong world.
>>
>>727734310
It's alright
>>
>>727735297
I don't want a Metroid game played under Dark Souls rules.

>Shelve one of the few Nintendo franchises that aren't made for casuals/families, and actually has engaging gameplay for people above the age of 8
What the FUCK is wrong with you guys?
>>
>>727734785
I'll accept it when indies start making Metroid Prime equivalents
>>
Erm.. Actually Metroid was never good chud
>>
>>727734310
Super Metroid is the only exceptional game in the franchise. Metroid NES was decent for its time, but I wouldn't even say I'm a fan of the Metroid franchise when I am really only a fan of Super.

>>727734785
There has not been a single Metroidvania since Super Metroid that has done anything novel.

You don't even have to make it dark souls, you just need to add something meaningful to the formula.
Metroid Prime innovated by putting the game into a 3D immersive space.
Games have come a long way since the original, you could start layering areas vertically on top of each other, you could have the world change and deform/reform to make progressing through older areas different. MP2 had the whole light world/dark world thing, expand it titanfall 2 style to let you use it ANYWHERE.
So many great things you could do to the formula, and MP4s solution was to add an empty open world with a bike. Just creatively bankrupt.
>>
>>727735724
Correct.
>>
>>727734310
Metroid is good if we're talking actual 2D Metroid. Metroid Prime however can never make another entry again and the franchise would be better overall as a result.
>>
Prime 1, Prime 2, Super, Zero mission, and Fusion are all great. Dread and Prime 3 are ok.

True honestly

It's disheartening to see how allergic metroid has become to exploration, it either needs new leads or some serious tard wrangling from someone at the EPD teams.
>>
>>727734310
It was outdone by a series that didn't even start as a search action game. There's a reason every ""metroid""-vanias copy mostly the latter.

The last good 2D metroid released on 2004, 1994 if we're not counting remakes. That's before any prime game existed

The last good 2D metroid released in 2004, 1994 if we're not counting remakes. That's before any prime game existed btw. It's easy to see how hard games like hollow knight dab on SR or Dread
>>
>>727734785
Dread was promising. I take some issues with the art direction, the linearity of the map design, and how undercooked the EMMI sequences were, but it was solid.

I've always thought incentivizing exploration through basically flat number increases in health and ammo, instead of accessing new gameplay styles or optional powers or cool lore was pretty uninteresting. Exploration done through testing every wall and floor is also pretty lame.

YOUR MOM ISNT VERY GOOD.
>>
>>727734310
It's how I've always felt about it. I don't even see why they are so mad with this version, it's the exact same as all the others.

No they didn't

Despite Prime 4 coming up short, Metroid has some great games. The only thing I say the franchise has going against it is that there are a lot more games these days with Metroid-like level design. A Decent amount of them very good.

>>727739725
Rainworld is a huge leap in design philosophy

ftfy
>>
>>727734310
It's great but Nintendo doesn't know what to do with it which is why it has so many remakes and shit like Other M. The fixation with Samus is part of the problem, but it's more than that.
>>
>>727734310
Because the good games were on the nes/snes and gba and you don't belong to gaming, you are a zoomnigger.

>I've always thought incentivizing exploration through basically flat number increases in health and ammo, instead of accessing new gameplay styles or optional powers or cool lore was pretty uninteresting

The desire for exploring and bombing everything is for white people. Metroid is not about increasing a number, it's about getting lost in a cave
