Is Steins;Gate worth playing in 2025?
the anime is better
>>727736829It's still among the best vns and it's not like they've been making any good new ones.
You're supposed to read it
>>727736921fpbp
I wish we had a Moeka route.
>>727737089That's what OP said.
>>727736829No.
>>727737052Why did Japan completely halt creatively in 2011? They were gods for decades and then came to a complete stop in that particular year.
>>727736829Read Hentai Prison instead.
>>727737371touhoku earthquake
>>727736829Overrated reddit VN
>>727736921fuck you nigger
>>727736829Get it on sale or pirate it
>>727736829The only half decent thing about S;G is the atmosphere. The plot and characters are weak unless you specifically like time travel or otaku worship respectively.
>>727736829Read Muramasa
if the reboot doesn't have a moeka route I won't even bother pirating it
>>727736829>VNded medium since 2014
>>727736829yeah but you've already played itwhen are you playing chaos;head, robotics;notes, and chaos;child?they're good.
>>727736829I saw El Psy Congroowoman in a thread and just clicked to get my daily recommended dose of seethe>>727737268>>727737391>>727737801>>727737996MMM MMMMMM that's good
>>727739056>they're goodNo they're not.
>>727739056Robotic;Notes is very weak. Couldn't finish it.
>>727739245yes... they are
>>727739260I think it's okay and I finished it, but I do think it's heavily overrated for some reason. To be honest, S;G, 8-bit, C;H, and Linear Bound Phenogram are like the only good titles in SciAdv and everything else is merely okay to bad
>>727739260it's definitely the weakest in the series and relies a bit too much on its comfy island setting but it also has frau (best girl in the series) so it all evens out
>>727739325There is like one good game in all of science adventure or maybe two at most.
>>727739382>gravity defying hair
I sometimes wonder if I dislike DasH or 0 more. 0 introduced this dumb as fuck shit that infected a bunch of other titles so I am inclined to give the award to it.
>>727739260It's fine, but the routing is just awful.
>>727739457Chiyomaru can't write and when Nitro+ left the project shit was doomed
>>727739380C;H is my personal favorite but C;C is absolutely the craziest one in the series and has the biggest emotional punchesI teared up as this played at the endhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7vr6-HdkWY&list=RDR7vr6-HdkWY&start_radio=1
>>727739380Not even that, SG is the only really good entry in the series. The others aren't bad but they don't reach the level of genuinely good.
>>727739685C;C goes in the dumpster for me because of pic related They already had a good LE TWEEST with the other big reveal and this was just done for stupid shock value because the entire effect of it on the story and plot is resolved 5 minutes later and never brought up again and we handwave all the issues a magical city full of retards with laws to make sure people play make believe with them would cause in all the other SciAdv stories
>>727739816I mean sure, I'm not going to go to bat for the other stuff. The point is S;G was lighting in a bottle and Chiyomaru is a hack and we're all sad that SciAdv wasn't a god tier series like the Steampunk series (What a Beautiful) is
>>727739892I kinda picked up on it before it was revealed desuand it's just funnydoesn't really ruin the rest of the story for me since either way the important thing is how they perceived each otherthe relationship between takuru and serika fucks me up though. it's not FUCKING fair bros...
I can only think of two VNs that are in a "series" that I like, and that's Cartagra and the following Kara no Shoujo titles and Spirit Hunter.Everything else falls into the trap of being wildly inferior to the original material (*cough* Fate Muv Luv and others *cough*)
>>727739056are they really? finished chaos;head the other day. turned me off of not just SciADV, but VNs in general. Messy, bullshitingly stupid logic, completely ungrounded unlike S;G, awful pacing where nothing happens for most of the game, weak and undeveloped characters, a lacking soundtrack, braindead plot twists, SO MUCH FUCKING GORE (bad ending in particular), so much horniness, the routes are annoying to branch into, the villains lack any depthi could go on and on really.but i will say that the atmosphere and paranoia was fun for a few chapters. once the game turns into a shonen swordfight power fantasy though.... fuck it stinks.
>>727740704>once the game turns into a shonen swordfight power fantasy though.... fuck it stinksI like chuuni so I didn't mind this, but this is an extremely common complaint. Your writing has to be pretty good to pull off a genre bait-n-switch (think Enigma or Totono)
>>727740704I can only speak for myself but I liked it a lot. I really liked Taku though so he is a big highlight for methe concept was really cool as wellthe idea of mutual recognition was very interesting and while I can understand not liking how it "manifests" as D-swords and shit since it is pretty chuuni I didn't mind at all.
>>727736829It's just mediocre. I actually finished S;G but I wouldn't recommend it to people because it's not that interesting if you know anything about time travel fiction.
>>727741327>it's not that interesting if you know anything about time travel fictionmy eyes lack the ability to roll as hard as this sentence was trying to make them Jesus Christ what a pseud retard kek
in many ways it's akihabara@deep + back to the futureit's primary value is as a time capsule of the late 2000s, much like subahibi (i'm still surprised it got a tl after all those years, and it's hard to imagine it reverberating with people a decade later since it's even more of a product of its time)
>>727741000I feel you on that 100%. I was actually pretty excited about that whole sequence too, before the game goes all"gigalomaniacs cant regenerate"."now witness takumi regenerating"to me its already hard to imagine all the sword/realbooting stuff in the same world as the generally grounded steins;gatebut the regeneration scene completely lost me personallyidk i hope later entries get better, but i'm really demotivated in terms of reading other SciADV entries now lol
>>727741476Even if you've only watched Groundhog Day you already have a plot of the same kinds of plot beats that S;G is just replicating thoughtlessly. It was not an inspiring read.
>>727736829Yes just do not read anything else in the series afterwards, not even 0.
>>727737996You should already be pirating every vn you read.
>>727742386you forgot most here need to buy it on steam too show off how much epix taste they have.
>>727741757>takumi regeneratingexcept takumi isn't a real gigalomaniac, he's an imaginary friend with flesh and blood
>>727736921I dropped the anime because it was too slow and I doubt the VN would be any better in that regard.
>>727736829Yes.>>727736921No.
>>727742835brother the whole point of the game is that he IS real; his existence is no different than that of a ""real"" human. have you not read the novel?
>>727742983if takumi could be created out of nothing then of course he can regenerate
>>727736921no suzuha rape tease so no
>>727743192i get what you're saying, and i would agree had the game not said "gigalomaniacs can't regenerate. pain is perceived by the brain is more higher priority than delusions."its a clear cut contradiction, it makes no sense to be told one thing and shown another. thats one of the main problems with this novel imo -- unlike, for example, time leaping/d-mails, there's no rules for delusions and realbooting. shit just happens because the writers want it to happen. its cheap and ungratifying.
I want to breed Moeka
>>727743368it doesn't really have consistent rules since it's not hard sci-fianything anyone knows about gigalomaniacs in-canon is known only through the research done by NOZOMIYou think any of them thought a gigalomanic could create a whole new person, either?they would have considered takumi himself impossible too. everything in the story exists in service of the themes, not the other way around. the setting of late oughts shibuya. the otaku protagonist. the chuuni d-swords. it's all window dressing. the story is about takumi's struggle with himself. I posted this on /v/ about a year ago so I'm repostingI did actually write an in-depth review too.
>>727744731that makes it all the more frustrating to set c;h and s;g in the same universe, when the latter very much is hard sci-fi.you describe the themes beautifully; i hadn't really thought of the game that way. but personally i still feel that the plot twist breaks my suspension of disbelief completely.it's a very cheap tactic to tell your readers "x can't happen" and then immediately write a scene where x happens.in general, as interesting as the themes and atmosphere are, the writing is incredibly shallow at best and utter nonsense at its worst. i wish the novel was written as well as your breakdown of it was
i'm getting off for today but point is, no matter how beautiful and emotional and poetic the themes are, the writing is leagues behind. besides fapping to the delusions there's no fun to be had in this sorry excuse for a novel. el psy kongroo
>>727745412>>727746069I think part of it depends upon how well you can relate to taku himselfalso frankly I liked a lot of the general writing too but that's because I'm an otaku who loves stuff from this eraeither way it's not common for a protagonist in anime/manga/VNs to be far and away the greatest character in his story but Taku is absolutely a case of that. if you don't love taku (even though he's a despicable creature) you'll never be able to love C;H
>>727740432What game is this?Looks fucking aesthetic
Kurisu if she real
>>727739056>chaos head, child, and notes>better than steinsI've played all of them and Steins still is far and away the best. I'll give credit to child. The common route was fucking amazing, but that's it's biggest issue. It's so good, the rest of the endings pale in comparison. Huge mistake not ot take that energy and make it the true ending.
>>727748769saying they're good isn't the same as saying they're better than s;gfor me it's c;h > s;g > c;c : r;n
>>727750017Fair. For me it's Steins > Child > Notes > HeadI won't deny that it had it's moments, I really liked the scene of Takumi on the edge of the building seeing the d-sword for the first time and the music. The reveal of who he was and who shogun was was also pretty damn good, but as a whole it was lacking compared to the other games. >>727747193Death:Mark, first game in the spirit hunter series. Lots of fanservice, which kinda stinks for the sequel. plot ramps up, but there's next to no fanservice.
>>727739506I actually played through all of 0, as much as I hated it. Dash I only made it through the first route before dropping. They fucking massacred Daru and everything about it was completely idiotic. Achi surpasses her sister and instead of becoming a robowiz, works at a food stall?!
>semicolon in the title makes it extra sophisticated! Why are they like this?
>>727736829yes it is, it's a timeless story>>727736921In what fucking universe could you possibly hope to encapsulate 50+ hours of reading, expressed in multiple perspectives, in a 24 episode anime that only operates from a single perpectiveso much nuance is lost that it cannot be anything but dumbed downread the fucking visual novel you twat
>>727740432>spirit hunter mentionMy nigga. I love that series. I really liked how much more they fleshed out the characters in N:G rather than having a dozen shallow husks like in Death Mark. I also liked how they made the spirits more empathetic in NG. Still need to play the latest game.
>>727736829Not really
>>727736921fippy bippy, the VN has far too much filler and internal monologue
>>727736829>playing
No. Just spare yourself the disappointment when you see how dogshit and cynical the rest of the franchise is.
