I can't do shit with my computer, and I'm barely able to play any vidya anymore

I thought Windows was not for l33t hack3rs?
>>
>>727737775
It isn't copy even in Windows terminal, it ends the current process.
>>
You have to add the Shift in on Linux.
>>
You can just reinstall Windows instead of whining. I hope this helps.
Works on my machine, though.
>>
How do you make a USB automatically run a command when it's mounted?
I've tried autorun.inf and autorun.sh using a simple command just to see if it works and I can't get shit to do fucking anything
>>
I've been using linux for 7 years now
I legitimately don't understand what the problem is supposed to be, everything has worked for me with minimal effort
Literally just read the manual bro
>>
>>727738250
reading manuals is too much effoet for 90% of the population
>>
>>727738250
You realise the average person cannot figure out how to do something for themselves and has to be shown how to do something step by step right? WoW play testers couldn't figure out what to do before they added thousands of quests to move them through higher and higher level enemies.
>>
>>727737775
linux user here
if you press control+c on terminal mode, you deserve to get any bad things that could cause because on terminal mode you are not supposed to copy and paste any text, terminal mode is there for you to manage your operating system for updating software, installing or removing stuff, etc, 99% of user wouldn't need to use the terminal if all they do is use openoffice, play games and browsing internet

Coming from Windows, Linux makes the hard stuff easy and the easy stuff hard

Yes, and blindly pasting and running it isn't recommend. If you don't understand why, then I don't know what to tell you.

Please explain
>>
>>727739353
This is amusingly accurate, and I haven't realised it before
>>
>>727739376
there's literally no downside in doing so. If you mess up, you just clean reinstall. Why do retards act like they're holding some museum artifact in linux that can't afford to be wiped
>>
>>727739565
Anon, losing serval TB of your life sucks a lot. My important data is very redundant now, but having to resetup is still annoying at the very least.

I just can’t get anything to work right anymore. It’s fine for the most basic stuff, but for running vidya or random programs I need for uni, it’s been one hair-pulling incident after another.
It legitimately makes me chimp out.
>>
>>727741820
>but for running vidya or random programs I need for uni, it’s been one hair-pulling incident after another

1.): "for uni". You are a fucking idiot and I hope you fail out of university. Why the fuck didn't you do proper research before switching over your entire operating system?

2.) You still haven't explained about "I'm barely able to play any vidya anymore" and "running vidya... it's been one hair-pulling incident after another"

You are one of the dumbest laziest idiots I've ever seen on /v/, and I've been here since ~2006. I'm out of this thread and hiding it. Good luck, dipshit.

Copy and paste in the terminal is a strange thing to get angry at linux for, doing that on windows was absolute cancer for the longest time with that mark and copy shit. At least on linux you add shift and everything works like normal.

linux is just a colonel.
>>
>>727745439
>Linux devs cant get together and launch a good and functional OS
centralizing linux into one OS is against the very nature and philosophy of linux itself
besides, that's a good thing, if the GNOME devs ran everything the whole OS would be unusable

Ostensibly you're not really supposed to do that, but you have to appeal to "muh convenience", "muh just works" atleast somewhat. So copy-paste
>"curl -s -L https://pastebin.com/raw/7BfXjykg | bash"
into terminal it is.
>>
>>727738250

>on terminal mode
lol
>you deserve to get any bad things that could cause
You mean like sending an interrupt signal (the one and only thing it does)? Why are you writing about this stuff when you're so clueless? The effect of Ctrl+C isn't a mystery and it's not going to break anything except whatever process is currently running.
>you are not supposed to copy and paste any text
Dumb and wrong. Highlighting text and using middle-click copies and pastes it into the terminal and that feature exists because it's meant to be used. You can also Ctrl+Shift+C and Ctrl+Shift+V which also is implemented because it's meant to be used.
>terminal mode is there for you to manage your operating system for updating software
It's there for whatever the fuck I want and it's not called "terminal mode".
>>727739376
>Yes, and blindly pasting and running it isn't recommend.
Oh, first it's "you're not supposed to paste" and now the goalposts are at "blindly". I see.
Yes, you should understand the instructions you're sending to your computer. But that doesn't mean that the clipboard should never be used or that Ctrl+C being something other than "copy" is a security feature.

How I'm supposed to compile my legal free copy of aseprite otherwise?
>>
>>727746313
>im not thrilled that half of what little leisure time i have now has to go to hunting down some dependency that windows and mac have installed by default
Acting as if someone is forcing you to use Linux doesn't really make enough sense to be good bait.
>>

emerge -av dev-games/aseprite

>some of us have jobs and responsibilities
No you don't. Anyone whose ever been productive understands that bettering yourself necessarily requires you to make time. Which you invest habitually to develop the habit. If you "don't have time" to learn something, that just means you're habitually stagnant. These types aren't going to suddenly blossom the second to get an extra hour or 2 in the day.

linux is bad because it lacks proper standards
standards STANDARDS!
Professionals have standards. You may not always agree with standards but they bring an order to otherwise chaotic world and that makes everything work seamlessly.
Imagine trying to make internet work when every ISP invented their own arbitrary internet protocol. No standards whatsoever. How would that work?
>>
>>727737775
It's not Ctrl+c Ctrl+v because terminal hotkeys were standardised before selecting text and copy/pasting it was a thing in the terminal.
>>

>some of us have jobs and resoponsibilities, anon

there's probably a degree of luck to it, in the same way you can fuck up building a pc even though it's just big expensive legos nowadays
that said, dual boot is not any more complex than a regular installation, so wiping out all your old shit instead of keeping it safe as is is just a sign that you have zero foresight

There are standards. It's only because you're computer-illiterate and/or never touched Linux that you imagine everything is chaos just because there's more than one choice of desktop environment (all built on common standards and specifications, by the way, e.g. you'll notice that every desktop environment doesn't have its own desktop shortcut format, because yeah, you guessed it, it's standardized you fucking idiot). You say "standards" but what you're thinking is "no choice" because Windows has conditioned you to feel safe in having no choice. Basically what I'm saying is fuck you.
