Looks a bit worse to me IMO, I think PS1 games look better at the default resolution because it hides some of the rough edges.

This definitely looks clearer than I remember them ever looking on actual hardware.

I prefer upscaled to about 640x480 or 800x600, AKA what PCs could do at the time. Super clean 1440x1080 and 2880x2160 is just too much and looks wrong.

My preferred way to play these sorts of games is actually to render them internally at like 10x native (3200x2400) but downsample and output that to 640x480.

Sorry, but this isn't catching on.

The water in the sewers still looks amazing to this day

I have no idea what downsample does. I mess around with it a bit and saw no difference.

For me, its all about PS2 graphics.

Well that explains a lot of fetishes

I generally prefer PS1 games not-upscaled, but Mega Man Legends is an exception; it's almost like it was designed for higher resolution.
>>
>>727747576
What webm demonstrates the difference, the first half is native resolution, second half is downsampled.
>>
>>727747851
What's the difference between that and just increasing resolution?

Again, MML did come out on PC, and the default resolution there was 640x480 which is 2x what it had on PS1 and N64 as they both rendered the game at 320x240. So its not like you're doing anything the developers didn't intend if you play it at that resolution.

You increase the render resolution beyond what you actually display, ultimately it just anti-aliases the final image making it clearer than it would be if you just rendered at 640x480, but you still output to 640x480 so you can, for example, display it on your CRT monitor if you so wish.

native just looks so much better here, high resolution just looks too clean.

4x total pixels true, but we call that 2x native as the integer is multiplied 2x.
