Dodge his 3-attack string that ends with the spinny swirl and punish him with XX>XY or YYY. Do the same for his red grab when he does it twice, you can also cicada surge the grab. You can punish his projectile grab with running XX. Repeat until you beat him. There are other attacks that can be punished too but they're a bit more precise and not as safe. Just keep sliding away around him while being far enough from him and doing all this and you'll get it.

Perhaps the worst thing about NG bosses is that they dictate the pace of the fight. That is you have to dance around them and wait for the specific openings. In comparison, the game from the same time period – DMC1 had great bosses that never functioned like this, they were always open for your attacks, so you could be as defensive or as offensive as you wanted to be. If you could sneak in your attacks while they were swinging that was fine and the game didn’t punish you for it. I hate this shit no matter where I encounter it, enemies should never dictate the pace of the fight, it should 100% be in the hands of the player.

I'm playing this fucking game again and I can't recall it being this much of a shit fest. By the time you get to fight the alchemists and chimera, you're just dashing around fighting for your goddamn life every second and sneaking in 1-2 hits. What's the fucking point of all the combo, air juggle, and cool ass shit Izuna drop when the whole game enemies are fucking shit and invulnerable to everything. Jesus fuck is NG games are utterly overrated.
