Is half life basically about nothing? I replayed the first and second game (no episodes) and there's essentially no story. Like yea a stinky leftist can cry about how it's about evil colonialism and stuff but aside from that, nothing is going on? I don't even know how i'm supposed to feel when the games end. I mean 1 can get a pass because it's almost pure action but 2 has way too many cutscenes and cinematic moments to just not explain anything
>>727759389Im gonna tell you a secret anonHalf Life is just genuinely dogshit
There is story. It's quite simple, and requires observation. The beauty of HL is that it was the first continuous, seamless gaming experience, where you're the MC, and the game does not stop you on your tracks to show you cutscenes, but rather the events unfold in front of you.
HL always looked super boring so I never played it. the character, levels, enemies, everything really. There are and we’re just too many other games that interested me. I can’t see the appeal. In a workd with quake ot doom or even halo idk why someone would see half life footage and say that’s my games that’s what I’m going to play next. Something about it just seems soulless compared to many games of the era. Sometimes I think it’s the engine but then I remember counterstrike which was soul overload. so idk what the issue is. Game just has an ugly art style and everythinf looks generic and unfinished honestly. Part of me wants to force myself to play it to understand its legendary status but it just looks terrible compared to most other comparable FPS of the era.
>>727760015the first game is one of the most interesting fps games gameplay wise if a bit generic looking but yea you're not really missing out on the rest. hl2 is uber bland and most of the gameplay aged poorly as it relies on the novelty of physics from 2004
