I grew up with the first two games but only ever beat 64. I tried to TTYD again before the remake came out and it was honestly almost as annoying as SPM in terms of reddit humor. Shame because I used to like the character designs as a kid. I wonder if the Japanese script is less gay. The only game I still enjoy is 64, and I feel like ironically Color Splash despite not being an RPG at all had serious potential although it still had some parts that screamed reddit and the awful new artstyle and meta "haha get it because paper" jokes. It came the closest to the feeling of playing PM64 story wise. At this point I just give up and look forward to more indie games inspired by it. Maybe we'll get lucky with at least a couple good decomp hacks. But that deep SMRPG editor has existed for years and nobody used it to make a full game that I'm aware of so maybe nothing will come of it besides sourceports.

The original series was really good but the one flaw is that there's not enough skill required.The reason the game is easy is because you can do anything by leveling up enough and buying the right badges.Some badges are just superior to others so there's not really any "choices" or skill required, it's more a matter of just getting the best stuff.Being able to level up is not a problem but the fact making choices is not really that important, since some things are just always objectively better than other things, is kind of the problem.That was the only problem with the original duolagy.Lol.

I just looked up the other one I had in mind (three fairies) and it's not actually PM-like at all just has really PM-looking sideview battles. Don't know how I misremembered that. I still miss Paper Cirno and the other mockups. At least Cirno Racing eventually kinda happened in the end with Touhou Fumo Racing.
