I don't understand the appeal

Same. I bought it for the Switch the other day because it was on sale and I am already considering dropping it after two hours. It’s not as funny, engaging or deep as people made it seem

but the gay goat n' shiet

I honestly thought the ability to permakill NPCs was novel and interesting, worth a run. I probably will not play the sequel because it appears to lack this.

The writing is good on many levels. The core gameplay loop is clever and innovative. It probably does meta better than any other game out there. It's a story that makes full use of the medium. I remember when I played it 10 years ago, I was so gripped by it, I couldn't it put it down until I saw it all the way through. And then I had to replay it multiple times to see all the different things it does. It's one of my favorite games. That being said, it's probably not for everybody, so if you're not into it, then that's fine. You don't have to like everything that's generally considered good. I don't get Opeth, and I tried getting into them more times than I can count.

It's literally Homestuck: The Video Game. Everyone who likes homestuck will like this one and everyone who dislikes it will dislike this, simple as that.

You sound like you've never read Homestuck and just hate watched Vivzie pops pilot of the show :/

What makes the writing good
>>
It had unique concepts but all the most insufferable people on the internet claimed it as their own almost immediately.
>>
You have to be autistic to get it

You have to be autistic child to enjoy it. Congrats, you might be a well-adjusted adult.

Give an "example" of good writing for a "game".

And if you say Deus ex your literally a fucking boomer.
>>
You had to be a 13yo queer American suburb shut in with no friends in order to appeal, that's what all its fans appear to have been
>>

So final fantasy fans?

If you weren't around for, and part of, that whole homestuck/tumblr wholesome humor era, it's not going to do anything for you. It's a game made by and for that specific crowd.

>Give one way of avoiding kidney stones
>And if you say drink more water then your literally a fucking boomer.

That means you aren't trans.

On the surface level it's appealing in the wacky sort of way. You're wondering what the game will pull out of its ass next. Especially with all these characters that feel utterly ridiculous, but are attention-capturing and entertaining. On another level the plot and the characters have depth to them, which you find out about after interacting with them and going through different things the game sets up. On another level it's a commentary about gaming that offers a specific perspective. The game runs the whole gamut of emotions from just being silly, to being touching, to making you feel terrible, to making you feel empty, and it switches between them in a way that feels appropriate. There's narrative consequence to the things you do in the game. The game remembers what you do and references it when you replay it. There's a lot of effort put into many small details. So much that you can find out new things you didn't know about even after playing through it many times. It also very much feels like an auteur project. When you're playing it you feel like you're picking the brain of a specific person, complete with all the nonsense it entails, but which I find endearing. But if you step back, the main thing that makes the writing good is that at its core it's just a very emotionally-compelling narrative. To be fair I don't even think I'm doing it justice describing it. One just has to experience it.

Deus Ex's writing sucks ass. There are better boomer games you could reference as examples of good boomer writing.
