Is dual wielding cool?
>>
cool in games that are clearly going for a stylized over the top style
cringe in games with a grounded or semi-grounded style
>>
>>727764884
yes!
>>
>>727764884
Mostly cringe.

>>
for me, it's akimbo archery
>>
>>727764884
Yes, dual wielding is always peak chino. But casual single weapon usage can match or exceed it in rare cases like Vergil.
>>
>>727764884
I used to think its cool but now I think its super gay
>>
Dark Souls 2 and Halo 2 are the only games that have ever had good dual wielding
>>
>>727764884
It's cool but it is lame when a character just dual wields something like two Katanas in the OP. I really prefer Weapon + Dagger, or Weapon + Shortsword. I wish more vidya would allow for that and make it fun, especially first person melee games.
>>
>>727764884
Yes. Its only problem was you couldn't RELIABLY train people to dual wield.
>>
No, it's not. Fighting with two swords deviates from the way in which swords were originally intended to be used. The difficulty increases your vulnerability.
>>
>>727765181
For me it comes down to as >>727764969 says. Two swords/other equally sized weapons is for stylized combat. Sword+parrying dagger or even shortsword is for more realistic combat.
>>
>>727764884
Katana would be dual wield with a shorter blade like washizaki. It is kind of similar to rapier and dagger. Only really for duels.
>>
>>727765270
>from the way in which swords were originally intended to be used.
...who fucking cares what the first guy to forge a sword intended? What, do you think using automatic guns is wrong because that's not what was originally intended? Do you think using a toilet is wrong because the first monkey to shit intended for it to be done on the ground and without wiping?
>>
>>727765367
its just worse than either two-handing a longer weapon or using sword and shield
>>
>>727764884
100%. Without a shadow of a doubt. To even have to ask the question shows the faggotry.
>>
>>727764884

no
>guns
yes
>>
>>727765356
>washizaki
lel. Good try tho
>>
>>727765367
It isn't about the principle of the matter, it's just actually worse. Every theoretical advantage is extremely situational. You're literally better off having a free hand to grapple your opponent.
>>
>>727766010
okay then whatever musashi used since i dont think anybody did duel wielding in japan before him
>>
>>727764884
Only game I played where it didn't suck was Rogue Agent. Halo 2 dual weilding is appallingly bad.

No you're right, but it's called a "wakizashi", retard-kun.
>>
>>727764884
i cant think of a single game i played where dual wielding was cringe
>>
>>727766369
Halo 2. All of the two handed weapons utterly mogged.
>>
i like dual wielding two different types of swords, one for each purpose
like maybe a more slashing weapon in one hand and a thrusting one in another
>>727765181
it mostly boils down to being miserably hard to animate for a game where you can mix-and-match
>>
>>727764884
The council agrees, it is cool. Practicality or Effectiveness is not up for debate.

Unless you're fighting only plate enemies you can use the other weapon to grapple your opponent and cripple them at the same time
It's like using an ice pick but on a person

umm actually musashi's way is to train both hands to be able to wield sword skillfully, not wielding them at the same time

i dont know how much he actually used it but he is popularly credited for inventing 二刀流 (in the literal sense not the baseball one)
>>
>>727766625
He means in multiplayer and even in that clip it is not really inspiring confidence.
>>
>>727766916
It dominated multiplayer. And that Elite was killed in .0022 seconds. You aren't getting better dps than that with anything else.

DaS2 was fairly grounded in its aesthetics, and I thought power-stancing was really cool

even better clip
>>
How about dual wielding one sword with normal grip, and another with reverse grip?
>>
If the game doesn't let you fire left and right weapons independently it's trash. If the game doesn't let you mix combinations of one handed weapons it's trash.

Same goes for any game that does not let you dual wield LMG's.
>>
why is akimbo used for dual wielding guns?

>It isn't about the principle of the matter, it's just actually worse. Every theoretical advantage is extremely situational.
Counterpoint: That means that if you're able to pull it off, you look that much cooler.
>>
>>727767620
I don't disagree. I wasn't that anon that claimed it isn't cool. But I do think it's a little overused in video games, specially RPGs where dual wielding is usually the best DPS option.
>>
>>727767207
Halo 2 would have been a lot better if the enemies didn't just stand there talking to each other. The dynamic dialogue system is impressive but it came at huge expense to the gameplay. Just leaving the ai like halo 1 would have been completely fine.
>>
>>727766162
>>727765270
Do you retards know that sword and shield is essentially also dual wielding?
>>
>>727764884
Only when theyre daggers
>>
It really depends on the weapon
its best suited for claws____
>>
>>727766978
That clip isn't legendary, so the damage that gets facetanked in it, as well as how quick that Elite died from that weaponry isn't really a good indicator of how effective it actually is. PP charge + BR is much better.
