>"man this game has an INCREDIBLE soundtrack one of the best of all time! it makes me cry when I hear it">play the game in order to witness this world-shattering music first hand >it's just okayWhy is this such a common phenomenon, especially with indie games
>>727765415Trvth.The only time this really worked out for me was FF7 when I played it much much later than everyone else. Now that was a truly legendary soundtrackFuri was decent as well
>>727765415You have bad taste.
It's a genre of guy that just enjoys everything and treats it as a 10/10 thing in the moment of experiencing it as long as it's as you said, at least "okay"Not a bad way to live
I made a huge ass post but I think it got eaten up. Test.
>>727765415what kind of gay nigger plays a game for the soundtrack?anyway, play hellsinker
>>727765415some people can't deilneate which aspects of the game they like
Why do you care?
>>727765415>"man this easy listening pop/soft rock album is INCREDIBLE one of the best of all time! it makes me cry when I hear it">listen to the album in order to witness this world-shattering music first hand>it's just okayWhy is this such a common phenomenon
For some reason, 4chan isn't letting my posts go through if I have youtube links, so I'll have to greentext the name of the video. That's fucking odd. OP, here's another soundtrack for you to think it's just "Okay".I think Absolum's soundtrack is phenomenal and got overlooked hard this year. I get that it was gonna lose to Expedition 33, but the fact it didn't even get nominated is a crime.Want a track for when the adventure is just beginning and it's starting to get tough? They got you.>Gareth Coker - Green River | Absolum OSTWant a track for when you make it to an ancient Dwarven stone city built inside a mountain that has nothing but history, constructs and spirits inside? They got you.>Gareth Coker - The Citadel | Absolum OSTWant a track for the boss at the end of that area, the Dwarven King himself, which is the first big boss you face on your journey? They fucking got you. (Throw Mick Gordon in, why not?)>The Underking (From Absolum)Want a mysterious but catchy tune for the tribal jungle area filled with danger? They got you, my man.>Gareth Coker - Fire Swamps | Absolum OSTWant a theme for your Classic Epic Heroic Tyrant Villain Whose Motives May Be Better Than Yours? They GOT you. Here's the theme for Azra, Sun King.>Gareth Coker - Azra, Pride of the Sun King | Absolum OSTThis basically goes a bit further into scratching the surface, but it's far from it. 80% of this soundtrack is amazing and I posted less than 5% of it. Godlike stuff.
Soundtracks work in context. They elevate the game and the game elevates them. If you're just listening to albums instead of experiencing the stuff in the way it's intended to be presented, it's not gonna hit as hard. OST albums (Of vidya or movies) are meant to be listened to after you listened to them in their ideal format.
>>727765415>dude you like X? you should totally listen to this track of theirs, it's amazing!>give it a listen>it's complete assEvery time. The only person whose taste I trust now is my damn self.
>>727767428This is very true. Also, part of the quality of a vidya soundtrack since the early 2010s is also in how well it fits into the game and what your player is doing. I posted a bunch of Absolum tracks and they're awesome, but they're even better in the game where they have different variations of loops based on which part of the area you're on in specific, with well connected end stingers for when you kill the last enemy.
>>727765415Nobody likes anything that is recommended to them, they only like it if they can believe they found it themselves or, seemingly paradoxically, if it's really popular. Just a cute little ego thing we're all born with.
>>727768064The scenario in the OP refers to a game being really popular for its music
>>727768064This is silly. People listen to recommendations all the time and sometimes get their favorites off of them. It's just that not everyone's tastes align, and when you recommend something, sometimes you build expectations that are too high.
>game recommendation from /v/>it's amazingwhat's her name?
>>727765415FF6 is one of the only vidya OST that I can listen to out of game and in its entirety. If you cant listen to your vidya OST without a game backing it then it is a bad OST>>727768363noita
>>727765415I remember listening to anarchy reign's ost a million times over before playing the game. Gotta say, I got so many theme songs wrongly attributed to the incorrect character lol. Really warped my perception of the game. Still kinda liked it. Still listen to the ost when I work out too.
>>727765415You can just say the fanbase by name: Nier automata
>>727765415Because when you experience the ost through the game you aren't just appreciating the music but also its context and purpose in the game. People who say this are agknowladging that the song itself might not convey the meaning or feeling from listening alone. It's exactly why I don't like watching a music video when I'm first exposed to a song, the video and visuals are 90% of the time tertiary to a standalone track yet can and will influence your feelings and judgement of the song. I'm all for appreciating a music video but I don't want to like a song as, say, putting it on my playlist, just because I liked the visual qualities of the music video.
>>727765415>get rec'd indie game by friends>"dude the OST is killer you gotta hear it">fire up the game>suddenly bombarded with royalty free music I've heard before in countless RPG Maker porn games>turns out there's not a single "original" sound track in the game at all
>>727770006>play pron vn>thought the music sounded amazing>years later>hear music elsewhere>realize it was a royalty free use>get disappointed The irony is that it sounded awesome in game, and if it weren't for my discovery it would have stayed that way. Suprised it took me that long to hear it again
>>727767428>Like MGR>Put MGR soundtrack on my mp3 player>Load it up in my car>Sounds like dogshitYeah, its just not the same without actually doing the thing it was created for.

>>727765415It's almost as if music is subjective. Fucking wild.
>>727774573>music is subjectiveThe midwit response
>game is pretty good>gets a number of "sequels">the music is okay, but nothing to write home about>the community around the game proceeds to release dozens of absolute banger remixes>whole albums of pure fire, track after trackhow did they do it? what's the secret?
>>727765415because retards say the soundtrack is good when there's a few tracks at most that are good. take something like persona, retards cream over the vocal tracks but all of the games have genuinely ear bleeding garbage on the soundtrack outside of that.
>>727765840Yeah, desu, I'm kind of jealous. I find so many experiences incredibly unmemorable.
>>727765415here have a bump
>>727770141Interesting, I would enjoy the discovery and think, "wow the mystery musician did a good job".I care nothing if a piece was created especially for a game or not.
Speaking as someone who enjoys video game music but is well versed in actual music, most people who pull the "man this game has an INCREDIBLE soundtrack one of the best of all time! it makes me cry when I hear it" card are emotionally stunted manchildren who's only experience with music are soundtracks, whatever's playing on the radio, and stuff they've assimilated through their family and friends (dad rock, mom pop, their friend's favourite rap artist, etc), so even the vaguest high concept video game music that breaks the "simple loop" stereotype or strays away from the hook/verse/chorus format is praised as groundbreaking. Also like >>727765840 said. There's hypersensitive dopamine rush addicted morons who overrate anything that makes them feel good/anything they like. Like, for example, cool,, that JRPG battle theme has a strong speed metal riff but it's outclassed by literally any throwaway bargain bin speed metal album from the mid-80s

>>727765415When people say shit like this, they need to also post their musical tastes. Because someone will say some shit like this and then you find out they regularly listen to like Touhou shit or KPOP.
