I don't dislike the game, but honestly the way its discussed made it out to be way more than it is. People were saying to go in as blind as possible and that the supernova is a huge moment for them but it wasn't all that huge of a moment for me. The game was fun but it wasn't life altering for me really.

Uh-oh, you didn't say Outer Wilds is an 11/10 masterpiece. The cult, I mean fanbase isn't gonna like that.
>>
>>727767058
>hasn't finished it
>>
>>727767058
Even recommending to go in as blind as possible spoils the game. Your imagination will probably conjure something that's more crazy than the game can offer, provided you can conjure an apple in your mind.
>>
>>727767058
Your post is kinda vague. Did you finish the game?

OP didn't even eat breakfast this morning
>>
yeah overhyped for sure but i did really enjoy solving the mystery and found myself waiting to be able to continue playing it
>>
>>727767058
it's journalistcore made for fans of pop science and Big Bang theory. I'm not saying the game doesn't have innovative elements but it's draped in this horrible veneer of cartoon "FEELGOODFEELGOOFEELGOOD" bullshit that's hard to stomach.
>>
>>727767058
How simple or complex it is all depends on your views of the subject matter. Gameplay-wise it's just a fun little puzzle game, especially the DLC was really fun when you figure out the alien matrix.
>>
It's simple : every game that /v/ hypes to high heavens is a waste of money
>>
It was a unique experience, I'll give the game that. It feels incredibly rewarding when everything clicks. But it was too vague in some areas. I exhausted all hints twice, and the game expected me to explore each planet all over again. This shit can fuck right off. Also, the visuals are downright atrocious.

The fanbase seems to have approached tendie levels of elitism and zealotry where any kind of criticism is immediately met with hostility.
>>
>>727768498
>FEELGOODFEELGOOFEELGOOD
what?
everything you come across is horrifying on a cosmic level. it's so awful that people grow overly attached to the few moments of respite the game gives you.

I often pitch the game as cosmic horror.
So many random shit can kill you, it's incredible the devs thought of them all.

I honestly wanted there to be more cosmic horror or maybe horrific mystery that makes my imagination run wild.

I did finish the game, I did enjoy a decent amount of moments but overall I left the experience feeling like it was decent. I just don't feel like I have a lot of thoughts based on it. I guess I have a few theories on why things are the way they are but it isn't an experience I think I will hold with me for a really long time.

nothing cosmic about this game. It takes place in space but it might as well be in an oversized bathtub for how unimpressive and plain everything feels.

thats good, because that magical moment is something I don't get to experience too often.
A game can be great, but your imagination let you experience something even better.

Why did it take you one hour to respond?
Did you use a guide? If so, how many times?
Did you explore the quantum moon?
>>
>>727767058
Why can't you make a thread with substance?
>>
>>727772221
Because I started playing Nuclear Throne and forgot I made the thread lol
Very few times I used a "guide" although I never looked anything up, I did ask someone who had played the game before me to push me in the right direction a few times. I don't have an exact number but it was around 5 or so times.
Yes, I did explore that area, and it was one of the times I asked for help. Overall it was one of the better moments in the game for me. To clarify I know there are things I havent done and endings I have not seen but I'm not 100% invested in going back to the game currently.
>>
>>727772491
When you took the item near the end of the game, did you understand?
>>
>>727773145
Depends on what you mean by understand, its something I'm still thinking about admittedly in terms of everything in the game.

I knew what to do at that point, but I don't fully know what the implications it has on the story and world in general.

I have a feeling your experience here was ruined by looking things up / getting help from a friend.
When I played at launch, ATP was the very last thing I did.
I knew what the ATP did. I knew where the warp core would go.
But I didn't know that the ATP would stop when I removed the warp core.
I don't know if you talked to Chert much, but the universe in outer wilds is at end times.
Every solar system is going supernova.
But as long as we're stuck in a timeloop, we can persist in it.
Which brings us to this moment.
Removing the warp core stops the timeloop.
Meaning if you don't get it to the shuttle before the supernova, this will be the end of existence itself.

What's the appeal here and why do people play indie slop? Aside from the fact you're all broke and brown.

I don't think enough people acknowledge how much heavy lifting the gravity simulation does for the game.

At its core, it's an adventure game. You go around reading information and look for the information that will let you solve puzzles and look around more. That's not exactly a thriving genre anymore but flying the ship around with the gravity simulation and the jetpack is just so fun and "gamey" that getting from A to B in itself is pretty fun. I've liked the thought of trying to make an Outer Wilds clone before, but I realized that I had no idea how to make traversal fun in the same way without doing the exact same shit

That said, I've yet to find another game in a similar vein.

Unless there's a misunderstanding, you were supposed to understand what and why BEFORE the final run.

> I knew what to do at that point, but I don't fully know what the implications it has on the story and world in general.
Essentially you realize that you cannot save the solar system, the sun, the universe itself is dying and there's nothing you can do except either loop forever, or attempt to reach the EYE and at least satisfy your curiosity before dying.
And you do so by bringing the hyperspace core to the spaceship to jump to it.

AFTER that, you realize that the EYE is some kind of universal constant waiting for a lifeform, or maybe the LAST sentient lifeform to restart the universe.

And I'm not telling you about the DLC, which offer bridging material to explain why the Nomai only saw the eye during a short period.
>>
>>727784184
some people talk about it like that so understandable
>>
>>727774634
You ruined your experience getting told where to go at every major decision (5 times? So you got told where to go for every planet LOL) you didn't read anything cause you weren't giving the game an honest attempt, and you cucked yourself for it.

The fact you had no clue what to do during that ending sequence says a lot, if you actually play the game and use your own brain to beat the puzzles to get there and actually talk to everyone and read everything, you know exactly what to do and where to go by design. In fact the games set up where unless you use a guide or get told what to do, it's impossible to get to the ending sequence and not know what to do. The dying before you finish ending is literally the "fuck you guidelets" ending.

Congrats, you played yourself.

Agreed. This is one of the most overhyped games ever made. It's actually quite boring, and the story is unremarkable because the characters are just simplistic tropes. I had the unfortunate luck too that when I first received the spaceship, I experimented by just driving it into the Sun since I was already uninterested in the environment and plot. Of course, I just woke up and it was revealed that it was a dull time-reversal cycle; essentially 'spoiling' the plot. I can't believe people say this game changed their lives or was phenomenal in any way. It's entirely mediocre.
>>
>>727785736
You get what you put in, retard. Nice job going "ERM CARTOON ARTSTYLE WHAT THE FUCK" and immediately trying to break the game instead of giving it an honest chance. Your attitude can literally ruin any game, no matter how good it is
>>
I played this game for pretty much the exact steam refund period and with each passing moment it became more and more clear this game was made for bay area trannies by bay area trannies.
Refunded it and didn't look back, do better /v/
and if you haven't tried it, heed my warning.

It doesn't really have any goals, but try out Noctis, if you like the idea of a game that's all about exploration and discovery.
It's where No Man's Sky stole all it's ideas from, right down to the joke that it's multiplayer but the chance for players to meet is nearly 0.

To be honest, NMS are so damn basic it's just Spore (the director previous game) with the laziest, most easily procedural-gen-compatible gameplay you can imagine

Why do these games sell?
The trailer on its steam page implies it's just a walking simulator, the graphics are ugly, and there's nothing there in it.
Real games with real trailers sell less than this kind of stuff.

Outer Wilds is in a three-way tie for most SOULful game I have ever played. The other two being Dying Light 1 and LISA: The Painful. I've been meaning to finish Echoes of the Eye but I've been too busy with procrastinating on school. So far it doesn't seem as good as the base game, but I don't know how far in to it I am.
>>
the reason outer wilds get such reverance is that its the MOST video game video game out there
video games as a medium are scenarios that are different from books, tv or progressive music in the way that THE PLAYER is in control of it
outer wilds encapsulates this more than any other video game because it is a video game about YOU. YOU explore the solar system and YOU put things together.
you get better at flying, better at understanding the clues and how to interact with them, etc etc. without the player the story does not exist at all
this is why people tell new players to go in blind, because if you're not playing it as yourself, then you're removing that from the game. any mentions of epic heart wrenching story or how it emotionally damages you are reddit tourists.
this can be true depending on who you are, but the point is that it's different for everyone, because everyones sense of 'me' is different (and yes this also sounds gay reddit etc)
i could go on but at the same time that's literally it. open world games, your choices matter games, actual story games dont come close to this level of freedom in interacting with a story, and it could never work as a tv show, book or musical because then it would be SOMEONE ELSE, and not YOU

For me, it's the imposingness of the sun just before, sitting there with the ending theme ringing nails the atmosphere, especially late at night.
