The cool detail about MGSV that everyone misses is that every single piece of the game is written to be a foil and internal reflection to the protagonist's feelings on having Big Boss erase their identity. Every antagonist and villain talks about loss, and almost every cassette tapes in the game makes some hidden commentary on Venom Snake if you keep the endgame twist in mind on a repeat playthrough.Take this random tape set for instance, the "Informant's Report" to see what I mean:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-G-6agfdUA""Everything was powered by anger, malice, revenge." "He was sacrified on the altar of war, his life reduced to slavery under other people's wills. Turned into a living weapon with no will of his own. Eventually the only emotion he could feel must have been the desire to get revenge for the hand he'd been dealt. Boss, it's you that awakened the boy's powers. But there's more to it than that. I guess the anger eminating from you, was something he could truly relate to."The whole entire game is like this and it's really easy to miss and went over a lot of people's heads. Venom Snake actually has much more characterization than people realize if you read into everything presented in the game with the twist at the front of your mind.
honestly playing delta made me realize how childish mgs dialogues were and how much better mgsv is for just being aestethically pleasant without all the 2deep4u bullshit
>>727770595That tape literally shows you it has that 2deep4u shit, you can just skip it and miss most of it.>>727768883And yeah op, venom is essentially a mirror to skullface, or vice versa. Also it’s very obvious that ocelot and kaz are manipulating you most of the time, and my only real complaint is the stupid fucking “let me hypnotize myself to think you’re the real big boss” bs from ocelot. All of his dialogue comes off like he’s aware that venom is not as competent as snake and has to handhold and baby him through everything, but I guess the coma is supposed to be the excuse?
>>727768883is this one of the most best written video games of all time or am i being too much of a retard? mix of both? one of my favorite games of all time
>>727772054>That tape literally shows you it has that 2deep4u shit, you can just skip it and miss most of it.yes, it's fewer and skippable I meant
>>727772156Probably retarded, no offense. Just need to consume more media maybe. It’s pretty shallow in what it presents and doesn’t even convey the themes it wants to convey properly in a way that makes them have any impact. There’s been many revenge games done way better. I think trying to blindly copy moby dick and create a story through omission doesn’t work in a medium like vidya, and especially doesn’t work when you’re not an actual writer.
>>727772054Venom is also a very strong mirror to Eli. I love eli's quote in kingdom of the flies. "I'm not me. I'm just a copy of you".... said to the brainwashed body double.Psycho Mantis even mirrors venom like it says in the OP.>>727772307It's not a story by omission. I think I've come to realize MGSV is a cinematic aurafarming simulator where you shoot your own action movie stories for Big Boss. It gives you plenty of playgrounds to do this in and plenty of missions to experiment in with different mechanics.Did you know the radio button has unique dialogue for each level? And people say there's no codec calls lol. They just never pressed the codec button on objects. You can point your scope at the soviet flag in ep 1 for example and get a lesson on communism from Ocelot.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzMQYMLGgk0This is how the game is kind of meant to be played. In MGSV it's especially fun to aurafarm using slow motion pills and cassette tapes and weird physics sandbox stuff.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NjlUBYBXdYSee above for another example. Like, I don't get what people say when they didn't get to see big boss turn evil in this game lol. This game is a war crime simulator while a demon looking big boss aurafarms smoking cigarettes in front of explosions.Fucking love MGSV. Absolute peak.
>>727772054Yeah Kaz knew. He saw the horn before big boss fell into his coma.Ocelot obviously knew and says so himself he's self hypnotizing.Skullface knew. Very cool Easter Egg: replay mission 30 after beating the truth mission, and skull faces saying big boss's name gains sarcasm quotes. I think skullface knew he was a body double and just didn't give a shit, and frankly he probably related more to someone who had their identity overwritten by someone else, anyways. Skull face had very little in common with the actual big boss. The meme that he "told his speech to the wrong person who didn't care" just isn't true if you pick up on the blatant theme that skullface knew venom was a fake. It's like MGS3 all over again where you replay it and realize everyone in the room during the torture sequence was a double agent spy. It happens again in MGSV. Everyone knows you're not Big Boss and they're gaslighting you to pump you up lol.
>>727772156Had the potential to be the greatest game of all time if finished, will be the greatest game of all time if ever remastered or remade, and is currently perpetually doomed to be an 8/10 because it was held back by Konami time restraints and mandates for ps3/360 releases.
I wish we got this as the title screen like in the concept art
>>727772054>All of his dialogue comes off like he’s aware that venom is not as competent as snake and has to handhold and baby him through everything, but I guess the coma is supposed to be the excuse?Despite all that Venom turned out to be very competent.
>>727775156That's the cool progress of the game. You start off not even able to walk. You end off a warmongering demon. Kojima intentionally did the hospital sequence this way to show a sense of progression from less than nothing to top of the world.I read in an interview somewhere that Venom's arm was built around this as well. It begins as a detriment, then becomes almost neutral, but slowly transforms into something that makes you stronger than everyone else.MGSV has such good progression. I love deleting my save and rebuilding from the ground up. The noticeable difference in reload speed and movement speed and utility in a new game is so cool. You feel handicapped after a long time with the upgrades.
>>727768883kusoge>>727773580zoomer post
>>727768883nobody missed this, it was extremely obvious and surface level>>727772156you're retarded
>Called Venom Snake>Is actually really nice and merciful for the most part>Gives soldiers a new home and treats them well>Saves child soldiers>Tries to get rid of funny parasite before it kills every english speaker>Very lenient with Liquid>Most of the time he's just defending himself from an unprovoked declaration of war>Would've probably done all the same things even without brainwashing because Big Medic loved Big Boss anyways and was already serving pretty close to him
>>727768883>The cool detail about MGSV that everyone misses is that every single piece of the game is writtenStopped reading there. Look I love the game, but no one will ever play it for the story, nor should they
It's the one time Kojima tried to tell a story by not just lecturing you a whole bunch about what the moral is.
>>727772156I love the game, but I don't think the writing is really anything too special.
venom > big boss > basedke > gayden
>>727779915Solid = Liquid = Solidus > Raiden = Venom >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BB (Big Baby)
>>727768883It’s kind of creepy. It’s almost too subtle as compared to his other works that were not subtle at all.
>>727780029The game is meant to make you feel schizophrenic, I think. It ties into Venom's mental illness and his nature as an unreliable narrator.I honestly think there's no way to tell whats real in this game too. The game opens with a doctor telling you you will hallucinate, and then the game makes venom an unreliable narrator while constantly dropping 1984 newthink references.I really wouldn't trust anything and for all we know the entire game could be Big Boss's garbled shrapnel filled brain trying to make sense of his memories. The game opens with him playing a cassette tape in the mirror, after all.
My favorite new discovery is realizing that silent lethal pistols are actually better for nonlethal stealth than the tranq pistol. During the time you're spotted, yoy can fire a low damage shot at the enemy to delay the alert, buying you about 3 seconds to land another shot and do it again while you run up to them. It's very cool looking to get spotted and then save yourself through kneecapping someone, only to run up and cqc their guns out of their hand while they recoil. You can knock them out during this time for a Fulton.I never bring the tranq gun now. Regular guns have more stealth utility to take out lights and radios and to stun guards. I've no killed stealthed most missions by kneecapping with a silenced pistol.
>>727768883Game was far from perfect but at least it took the series into a new and ambitious direction. They could have easily made DLCs for it and people would gladly buy them.
I am so glad kojima gave us an interesting ending that can still be discussed a decade later instead of a cringe avengers le evil big boss generic villain game. So good that we didn't get another naked snake game.
>>727772156Chapter 1 was perfect. Chapter 2 Kojima ran out of game and the plot fell apart
