I think Astro Bot just won because it pandered to Gen X and Millennial game journalist nostalgia for games that were on the PS1 and PS2. It didnt really win for the quality of the game itself. It won because of all the cameo stuff.

That's why they have a separate kids category they nominate Nintendo games in. I think because it's a playstation branded game that made it socially acceptable to support which is why it got the GOTY nomination instead of just "best babby shit award"
