How come the story, characters, and lore for this series is so bland and forgettable?

>>727772049Because it fails to connect emotionally with the audience. Everything about this series feels like it was written by a CS graduate who doesnt interact with any human outside of Reddit. Compare how Horizon treats Hades to Mass Effect's Sovereign. Both entities are AI but only one is treated as such. The writers for ME understood if you want to get the viewer emotionally engaged in defeating Sovereign, we have to see it as a malicious person with a goal. The first conversation Shepard has with Sovereign is iconic for a reason.Also the games are dogshit at coherently explaining its narrative to the viewer. Once again, it feels like it was written by someone who understands computers more than people.

>>727772757Because Horizon, on a narrative level, cant decide if they want to treat the AI entities as real people or machines. Aloy and friends will talk about Hades' personality and goals like they're talking about Sauron but the game presents Hades to the viewer as just a computer, something completely mundane and unmemorable. Yes it IS a computer but there is a reason why the Terminator and Ultron are presented to the audience with some form of a human personality. Refer to pic related for Sovereign. Not only do you get a physical body to connect Sovereign with, Sovereign speaks like Darth Vader. This is way more engaging for the viewer.
