what are the best lovecraftian games? been on a big roll recently and tried the following:>bloodborne>the sinking city>call of Cthulhu>dead space 1-3>Sherlock Holmes the awakened
Cronos: The New Dawn comes to mind
Cultist Simulator and Book of Hours.>b-but tentacles...Shut up.
there's that submarine exploration visual novel style game but i forgot its name
>>727773558Mass Effect.
>>727773558...iru
>>727773558Martian Gothic. One of the characters namedrops Lovecraft with regards to the nature of their predicament having awakened an ancient alien disease and basically being doomed.
Indiana Jones doesn't have tentacle monster, but the archeology parts, especially in Egypt, gave me Lovecraft vibes.
>>727773992No. Mass Effect is not cosmic horror in any way shape or form. No, the Reapers motivations being unknown does not suddenly make it that way. No, the Reapers being a big threat does not make it that way. Mass Effect is boilerplate Science Fiction action against a very comprehensible alien threat. To be Cosmic Horror, and to be Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror particularly, the insignificance of humanity must be emphasized without a way to effectively fight back, and the protagonists or entire culture's fundamental understanding of themselves and their knowledge of the cosmos fundamental rules must be up ended.Bloodborne is Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror. Mass Effect is not.
>>72777355I was in the same boat as you, though I haven't touched lovecraftian games in years. If you're willing to dive deep enough like me, I got games for you.>Black Souls 2>Broken RealityThey're all rpgmakers though. The last time I played them was in 2018, but I remember they were extremely fun to play and had constant updates. I haven't tried the latest dlc for Black Souls 2 but it should still be pretty up there in terms of lovecraftian horrors. Broken Reality was in development hell for years so I don't know what its current status atm. Oh, Fear and Hunger too, if you like that artstyle. Or Middens for mindfuckery.
>>727773558I really hope Sinking City 2 will be good.

>>727774773>To be Cosmic Horror, and to be Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror particularly, the insignificance of humanity must be emphasized without a way to effectively fight back, >Bloodborne is Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror. These two contradict each other. You fight back against several Eldritch horrors in Bloodborne, kill them even.Bloodborne is gothic horror through and through, even with Eldritch dream monsters. The entire story is about undoing a curse, like any classic Gothic Horror story.>But tragedy Must Gothic Horror ends in tragedy with a heavy price.>and the entire culture's fundamental understanding of themselves and their knowledge of the cosmos fundamental rules must be up ended. This doesn't happen in any if Lovecraft's novels. The cosmic Horror is always beneath the surface.Cosmic Horror is focused on existentialism and the insignificance of mankind. It's basically putting a face on that feeling you get when you contemplate the vastness of space and for a moment feel completely overwhelmed by its scale. That's it mostly. If the Horror of the story evokes that feeling, then it's cosmic horror.
>>727773558How was that Sherlock game? It's often on sale but I hear that it's short and somewhat different than the other games. Is it worth the 4 euros?
