>but I wanna be a gamedev when I grow up
Why?
>>727775914#1 mistake all losers never realize>just because you play games doesn't mean you're ready to make themNot even close. In fact, people who don't play games often do a far better job making them than any gamer ever could. Studying games and systems requires completely different skills and actual discipline and work ethic. This is far more beyond than organizing a guild raid or coming up with a shitty PoE build.
>>727776214wish i learned this before taking a college course
>>727776214Well yeah, you need to learn how to code. It's a massive leap from being just an ideas guy like Extra Credits.
>>727776562Well I talked about that role (because its usually what naive people are typically thinking about), but it's not specific to just the game systems designer.
>>727776214>#1 mist-AAAAAAAAACCCKKK!!!Just say making a game requires discipline, that's it. Everyone knows playing and making are two different things.
>>727775914>nigga did I just catch you wanting to be shit?
>>727776214It's also worth mentioning that natural analytics work well as game developers regardless of whether or not they are "into" games or not.The kinds of people who are detail obsessed to a detriment are the best developers, provided that they don't have an ego and allow themselves to be managed by competent wranglers who pull in the reins from necessary. It's a rare combo but I can think of a few people I've worked with who fulfill this criteria. Most devs who I have worked with are henpecked and never deliberate properly, they are so vague and passive and contribute nothing. There are also those at the other end of the spectrum, who are trying way too hard, clearly wanting to make something artistic or that fills their own very personal niche, before a fun game.
>>727775914I don't wanna make full games, I just wanna make shitty kusoge that can be finished in like 2 hours while holding down an actual job. I can code and draw only issue is music.
>NIGGA DID I JUST CATCH YOU USING UNREAL ENGINE? *SLAP*>NIGGA DID I JUST CATCH YOU USING UNITY? *SLAP*>NIGGA DID I JUST CATCH YOU USING GODOT? *SLAP*
>>727777050No matter what you do, you can't escape needing leadership skills. It's tough...
>>727776214The only quality you need to make games is to make games.
>>727777050By the way, meant to add this, my vague credentials are, I work in graphics software, usually for simulation software (not game simulations, think more along the lines of corporate demonstrations, film reels, etc, boring shit)Don't get to talk to many AAA devs but we have had one contract with a publisher who in turn get us to help with mid size games they are pushing for a release within the next two years (fast turnaround jobs). So I have met quite a lot of industry people and like to think I have a good gauge of character.
>>727776214This. Guys that like to play videos games end up making garbage like Clair Obscure or BG3, while people that understand it's just a product that you are meant to sell to consumers consistently create masterpieces like Concord and DA:Veilguard.
>>727777351Yeah, if you're indie. If you're on a larger project with more than a couple dozen people, then you'll need a lot more than just that.
>nigga did I just catch you putting a loudmouth character telling quips in a franchise known for it's atmosphere and tension
>>727777408>pushing for a release within the next two years (fast turnaround jobs)i know games take a long time to make now but god damn that hurts to read
>>727777240>NIGGA DID I JUST CATCH YOU MAKING YOUR OWN ENGINE? *SLAP*
>sillu>sour>ryneWhich attention whore would you like to see fuck off forever?
